It's incredible how Atari can make side-scrollers like this on the 2600.

Technically the Atari VCS/2600 Kung Fu Master port doesn't have side scrolling. The effect is clever sprite manipulation. Still works great to achieve almost the same effect though.

This game makes very clever use of the Atari 2600's capabilities and limitations, in particular its Player/Missile Graphics (PMG). The Atari 2600 supported only two "players", 8 pixels wide. Players could be repeated three times, which is why you could have enemies coming in groups of three, but they were just copies of one player. Each scanline, you could adjust the player's shape and position - otherwise, you'd have a column of pixels - and its color. The background had a resolution of 40 pixels wide. You could add a bit more detail - including a scoreboard - with clever use of PMG.

Mummy bought this game for me ex gracia when I was a little girl. It was on a "3 games for the price of 1" cartridge ;along with the games "Frostbite" and "Freeway" When I first tried it, I was a bit careful about it, thinking it might be a bit too violent for me, but it was quite okay, though I personally wouldn't put it on my list of games I want to be reunited with

@Steve10578 To move right or left, move the joystick right or left. To jump, push the joystick forward. To squat, pull the joystick back. To kick high, move the joystick to the right or left and press the button. To kick low, pull the joystick back and press the button.

How do you select between kick and punch in this game? The Atari 2600 joystick only had one button. On computers that had joystick with one button at least you could select with the space bar.

Looks like an Atari 800 title. Very impressive. I would like to see what vcs tech can do when not limited to cartridge space for play on a PC. After seeing games like Shovel Knight and Bloodstained Curse of the Moon go beyond the limits of the NES I'm just curious.

Atari games since 1980 have used bank swaping. I believe it can go up to 64kb for the maximum. Not bad starting off at 2 kB in 1977

Kaboom Boring basically like breakout only harder and more frustrating because you have to keep the buckets under the bombs instead of the ball, Pit Fall boring all you do is move left and right jumping over things and it's a pain jumping on the alligators without getting killed because not all of the swamps have vines to swing on. Ms Pac Man typical crappy flickery graphics off key music and horrible sound effects where the ghost eating sound is the same as the fruit eating sound. No Intermissions or even playing the music from the intermissions like Jr Pac Man did and even that did not play the entire song Mouse. Trap crappy version with blocky graphics Turmoil boring and hard to control. Break Outs are just Breakouts just hitting blocks with a ball not very hard to do that on any non pong system that was more advanced then any Pong type system, even the Fairchild Channel F and Odyssey 2 could handle a breakout type game.
