KTM Husqvarna TPI CRANKCASE PRESSURE SENSOR ISSUE Repair. Free easy Fix for rough idle and stalling.

Ойын-сауық

The KTM and Husqvarna TPI engine CRANKCASE PRESSURE SENSOR ISSUE Repair - Free and easy Fix to get rid of the rough idle, spluttering and bogging down of the TPI engine.
Cause of the issue:
Dirt gets past the green O-ring and messes with the Crankcase Pressure sensor and/or the ambient pressure sensor by blocking or allowing too much air flow which upsets the TPI ECU.
The reality is you need to address any issue relating to the two sensors before you make any modifications to the bike.
If cleaning doesn't work, swap the sensors over to see if there is an issue with the Crankcase pressure sensor - then replace the sensor if the running gets better.

    No mate, standard ECU and just used the 6 pin connector that is either under the ECU or poking in to the air box. The app is called Car Scanner which was free. I bought the wireless OBD2 scanner and 6 pin CANBUS lead from Amazon The links are below if you want to have a look. The scanner does both IOS and Android but I believe some cheaper versions of the same thing are iOS or Android and not both. With the CANBUS to 6 pin cable, have a read up to see if it fits your bike, I think I took a gamble on the lead in the link down below but it worked so it was all good because I think most 6 pin connectors are the same. Hi Callum, thanks mate. Yeah it’s defo worth doing as part of general maintenance. I use WD40 contact cleaner to give the contacts a clean as well, but I would just use normal WD40 or even a wet cloth if the contacts are fine because it’s just the outside of the sensor, around the O-ring and the housing tray that requires the cleaning so the sensors can sit in the housing properly 👍🏻.

    Hi Alessandro. Where I live it’s cold and wet most of the year round so the issue started and never got better. I’d say it’s worth cleaning the outside of the sensor and the tray as it doesn’t cost anything, and then seeing how it fares from there.

  • @MALVSMACHINE

    @MALVSMACHINE

    Жыл бұрын

    @@alessandrotrosardo295 no problem 👍🏻. I only recommend as it seems the engine vibrations allow water and dirt to ingress and dislodge the crankcase pressure sensor enough to cause the engine to bog down/idle rough. To clean, I just take the sensor out of the tray and clean the outside of the sensor only, and then the tray so that the sensor can be seated correctly. I coat the O-ring lightly with grease before the sensor is replaced as per the video. If your problems are the same after cleaning, try swapping the sensory as other people have had their sensors go bad. They swap the crank case sensor with the ambient air sensor which is the same type of sensor, and then that seems to cure their issue. Best to start with cleaning, then swapping before spending your hard earned cash 😁.

    Hi Shawn. Yeah it was as you described there. Was really annoying but thankfully cleaning it sorted it out and I haven’t had the issue since. Some people swap the ambient pressure sensor and the crank case pressure sensor around at the time of cleaning just in case the crank case pressure sensor has gone bad so may be worth doing as well just to save you having to take the sensors out again if cleaning alone doesn’t work.

    Hi! Ah man, it’s a pain isn’t it! I didn’t swap the sensors because I was hoping to make the video a kind of problem solving video, and as it goes, cleaning the area and making a better seal using grease around the o-ring cured it, thankfully. If It didn’t work, my next step was to swap the sensors like you mentioned, so it’s probably worth doing at the same time you’re cleaning the outside of the sensors and the tray just to save having to remove everything again if there’s no change. Another thing I’ve read up on since my issue is the type of fuel used in the bike can make the bike run poorly. The factory manual recommends Super Unleaded or 95 RON for EU bikes but I don’t know what that equates to in fuel used in other countries. Thanks, I’d appreciate it if you let me know how you get on as this common problem is really intriguing me and I’d like to see what is working and what isn’t so that we can hopefully find the best, free/cheapest fix for us TPI owners to continue enjoying our dirtbikes!

    Hi Reece, they’re a bit of a pain to find but as soon as you see them it’s not so bad a process. Start with the ambient pressure sensor on the right side of the bike because it’s the easier one to see and to get off, the screw is close to the rear shock - lightly press down on the tray where the sensor is and shine a light in there, you should be able to see the torx head. Once you see it, you should be able to guide your way in with whatever you’re using to unscrew it. The other sensor is even more of a pain to get to but same thing, press down and shine the light in to see where it is and get your tool in. All the best dude 🤘🏻.

    Hi. Assuming nothing got inside the sensor during cleaning, and everything is back fitted snug, it could be a faulty sensor which has now failed. My next step when I was filming this video was to swap the sensors over if I started the bike up and it was still running poorly, but the cleaning did the trick in this instance. The video I watched about swapping the sensors was by a KZread channel called WA Semi-Hard Enduro, and fingers crossed that’ll help make your bike start so you at least know it’s a dodgy sensor.
