I did when I saw the concept. How ever I'm not interested in this. I'm only here cus I like 44 teeth. The seat and tank shape ruin the looks for me. Probably fun to ride but it's to ugly for me.

This VT was the reason I bought my new 790 Juke!! Even splashed out on a new full system too! Manufacturers take note of the power that is 44Teeth!

In my 46 years of experience my 790 Duke is the absolute best machine I have ever thrown a leg over. KTM got it absolutely right straight from the get go. Can't imagine a better engine.

Great review as always, and this bike is definitely on the radar for my next bike. Might just wait and see what the R version is like.

Another well made professional review guys! Me thinks though that I may like the Brutale better.

I spent a day each testing the MT-09 SP, the Street Triple R and the 790 Duke, I loved the little KTMs lightness ,flickability and amazing power for an 800cc twin, it's just a fun bike and I defy anyone not to have a massive grin whilst riding it, but it has Marmite looks, which just don't do it for me, also the build quality is slightly iffy, with some gaps in parts of the bodywork. I bought the Triumph and am really glad I did but if the looks don't put you off the 790 it's simply a great little do it all fun bike that will have you smiling the whole time you're on it.

XSR900 has three modes, and there is a palpable difference between B and A modes. Some find the modes extraneous, however I find them very useful for a number of reasons, and frequently switch between them depending on weather mainly.

A very good review as usual but I want to see more Budget Bike Battles

So basically, wait for the 790 Duke R with the Öhlins, Brembo, Akra exhaust and Supercorsas.

Can't see Ohlins on a KTM when they own WP suspension. Might see upgraded sussies on it and a bit more power on an R version.

About a year ago a KTM executive said there would be a r version with about 115hp. No comment on brake/suspension at that point.

Just bought one. This review is exactly how the bike is. On road I wouldn't change a thing. As for looks I think it is amazing. Put a evotech tail tidy in and waiting for a black widow slip on. 44 teeth are the best. 👌

there will be a R-version for sure - but because we want it, not only because they can sell it ;) it's a sick situation; I guess most people would even pay more, if there was a RR-version (higher, faster, better, more expensive -> i want it; we buy it. So they just play our game with us, ........ or let's say against us ;-)

It is an easy bike to remap the ECU up to 15 more HP, try that against any street triple you like

Please review a huski 701. I would be interested in seeing one of you guys try a supermoto type bike, to compare against your ss/naked/etc type bike /preference/

Bought the bike off the back of this and many other reviews....at 1850 miles my bike needed a complete engine rebuild as a result of a hairline crack in the cylinder head that must have been missed at the point of testing when originally put together. The dealership took three months to fix my bike, upon returning it and having to run it in again, the very first time I fired it up....it was leaking coolant. It's back with the dealership....again. Fantastic bike when working, rubbish bike when sat in the dealership workshop. I think I'll be px'ing it come springtime.

Was really looking forward to this bike, the concept was mind blowing!! And I know production bikes never the same as the concept but this is actually pretty boring looking, there is something about silver plastic that I really don't like. I love the look of the 1290 and even the new 390 looks really good, but this just looks plain in comparison. For the money this bike is a steal, and i thought I would straight down to my local dealer throwing money at him but I'm just not sure I can get over the looks... never know hopefully it'll grow on me!!

im still happy with the dragster 800 for less swingarm but this is a serious contender i do love my 390 duke

Hi. Thanks for all your reviews videos. Really cool. If you have time, i have a question. Between the 790 duke and Ducati supersport, which one as more torque. I'll try to test them in the future but would like to have your opinion about it. i know about the difference in price and purpose of those two bikes. Just wondering about the immediate torque. Let’s hope it’s better than the 690 duke. My thing broke down if you did more than 20 miles on it and Ktm had it for six weeks and f in useless. Ktm suck

The majority of people won’t be throwing this on a track so I think the suspension is justified for this 790

And the more money for the 890r is 🙄 because the Suspension of the 890r is not so good like the Triumph Öhlins!

Great review guys! Just to state... Spanish brakes manufacturer is JJuan, top notch in braking ;). They are probably calibrated to work together with the suspension. More bite at the beginning of the lever would make more front diving. What was the limiting factor in the circuit? Brakes or forks? Cheers from Spain

Good job chaps. So KTM has hit it out of the park with the 790. Good news there. I want the comfy riding version however to go with my leather cardigan.

you two guys should have a race somewhere like Donnington Park or Silverstone one on the Speed Triple the other on this KTM790 you could flip a coin or cut cards to see who ends up with which! 3 laps after 2 warm ups and go for it? settle it then and there eh? also what are those Maxxis going to be like on UK roads? example- A82 Loch Lomond on a wet miserable day with bends and even slight flooding from the Loch not to mention gravel getting washed down from the verges? I'm sure you can think of other similar roads, but it'll do?

Nice overview of it all, I bet once you owned it and changed the exhaust and tail tidy section it would look a lot better, maybe closer to the prototype seen last year 👍 So $8k+ for the bike and $4k+ for the aftermarket parts😉

I’m sure KTM will get out an R version of this pretty soon. Maybe an upgrade kit with adjustable front forks and Brembo brakes would be enough. Don’t think the engine needs more puff. I’m also interested to see you guys review the MT09. It’s not really a direct competitor in my opinion as this KTM is a twin and the 09 is a triple and they both have a distinctively different riding position. It sounds weird saying this but the 09 feels more grown up and more of an all rounder. The seat can take a pillion which neither this duke or trumpet can do with their dinky little rear seats.

If this is a scalpel, the 1290 Adv S is a meat cleaver

Great review as always guys. But I’m struggling though to see how this would demolish a street 765 on those roads. Have the edge maybe, but demolish?! Of course I haven’t ridden one so I respect your opinion. Or are you talking about a base 765 and not the RS? (Of course I own the RS) :-)

Do you think a body kit and exhaust could be knocked up to better represent the original prototype we all listed after? If so I can see that being a viable business proposition in the aftermarket world. Also Alastair, your footwork is an education.

Love my 2018 Duke 790. Great handling and engine. Original brakes work well but lack feel. Standard suspension is good.

Great review, think I might end up buying one of these! Slap some beefier pads, premium tyres and an akra on it and I reckon it'll be a weapon.

Cracking vid chaps. Best Duke 790 review online at the moment. However, where is your Duke 690 test?? With it's low weight advantage, surely it could keep up with the 790 on the twistie roads!? I just picked up a new 2017 Duke 690 (exactly same as 2018 model apart from some graphics and colour changes) for €6,000! That's 5,000 in the queens money!! Is the 790 3,000 pounds better?? My 690 also cam with Track Pack :-)

I wouldn't say 790 is 3k better but it's clearly way better than 690. On the smaller one, I need to flick through gears very quickly to keep it in the powerband, I can already feel I'm reaching the bike's limits. I was not able to push 790 to its limits though, I'm still not that experienced.

I've owned the 821 Monster. A nice middleweight bike but would get its ass kicked by my 790 Duke.

8 minutes in discussing throttle response in track mode. I feel your pain. my audi is almost undriveable in sport around town, I still want the Husqvarna though

For my next bike I'm undecided between getting an older second hand S1000R, or an MT-09, or a Street Triple R, or a new 790 Duke... I never intend to use it on a track, just road use only. The lighter the better, and I really want to have an up/down quickshifter/blipper on my next bike.

Too bad it does not look like the prototype. Lets hope there will be kits out there to convert it to something like that. I mean it pretty much is a different subframe, a different airbox and a pipe right thorugh...

I attended the London bike show this year and the KTM rep said there are no plans to release an R version during 2019 (the one we've all been waiting for). He suggested I buy the boggo and upgrade the master cylinder and add the upgraded shocks. Think I'm going Stripple R instead now :(
