KTM 200 Power Valve stuck after top end fix

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We have 2 KTM 200 2-stroke dirt bikes, and recently had both of our top ends redone. We did the work ourselves on Corey’s dirt bike, and my dirt bike was sent out. When we got them back and took them out for our break in rides, the dirt bikes seemed different to us. They were very loud, and the power was not the smooth roll-on we were used to.
KTM 200 2-strokes have a power valve that raises and lowers with the engine. Prior to working on our top ends, we used the Langston mod, which is a power valve adjustment that gives the bike smooth roll-on power. After the top end work, the problem was that the power valve assembly was not engaging with the actuating arm and the valve was stuck in the highest position.
In this video, we will show you how a KTM 200 sound with the proper power valve adjuster engagement and the Langston mod in place, and how we fixed our issue by using the sight window and without removing the cylinder.
To access the sight windows, remove the pipe, take off the 6mm bolts on the left and right side sight windows, loosen the 8mm lock-bolt on the right side of the engine, and remove the 19mm cover over the power valve adjustment.
The Langston Mod is setting the power valve notch to almost the highest setting, which causes the valve to raise much earlier. This setting provides incredibly smooth low end and liner power through the revs, yet tons of power when on the pipe. The bike does not have a noticeable 'hit' when hitting the power band.

WHO WE ARE
We're Corey and Amy, and this is our van, Igy. It’s just us, our #vancats LeeRoy and Purrrl, and a few bikes along for the ride. (Get it? Along for the ride! Hahaha :)
In 2020 we rented out our house, moved into our 2005 t1n 158 in wheelbase Sprinter van, and began traveling full time. This channel is dedicated to following our adventures which include mountain biking, dirt biking, hiking, fishing, hot springs, cooking, our vancats, and always camping off the beaten path.
Nowadays, we travel the Western US in search of secluded camping spots, hot springs to soak, trails to ride, streams to fish, and peaks to hike. Follow along on our journey and get inspired as we look for the good and share it with you!

WHERE DID WE GET THAT?
As many of you know, when working on a custom van build, there are a ton of little things that you spend forever agonizing about what to buy. We did a lot of our shopping at Amazon - and you can see a lot of what we used in our van build at our Amazon store: amzn.to/3jSJEqT. It costs you no more to shop Amazon with us, but by shopping our store a portion of each sale goes to bringing you more and better videos! Thank you for clicking through to give us a look!
Of course we have used our fair share of Ikea items in our builds. Ikea does not seem to have a partner program at this time, so you may just want to keep an eye on the used marketplace like we did :)
Note on the Amazon links below - I’ve noticed prices of items can fluctuate, these links will get you to the product page but feel free to comparison shop for the best deal for your purchase.

Thank you ! The same happened to me. I didn’t know what happened , why it was so difficult to manage even the easier hill climbs. The power was all of a sudden , it was easy to loose control.

I recommend going to a KTM dealer who will have a parts diagram. If you’re patient you can look up the part yourself - rockymountainatvmc.com is an authorized seller and has parts diagrams.

Well I just pulled the bigger clutch side cover on my 01/03 hybrid 200 (03 jug on 01 bottom end) to replace crank seal and lost all top end despite successful seal fix, now I know where to look, really informative video, liked and subscribed, hope this helps me.

Thanks to this vid it took all of 45 minutes to pull the exhaust, the covers, and identify that in my case no movement was present. Apparently the arm protruding from the adjuster was completely dislocated. Makes sense as it is attached to the cover. Some poking with a spring hook produced a snapping noise and movement which still wasn't producing a result. Traversing the adjuster back and forth with my fingers while gently pushing on the adjuster side with a tiny pick, quite blind to be frank, eventually snapped the mechanism in place. The ignition side with the marks was too black to see any marks, some carb cleaner on a rag cleaned it up and adjustment was successful. A bit too late to test ride today but fingers crossed for tomorrow. Reassembly was also completed within the 45 minutes. Once again what an amazing video, enough background, to the point, no filler, helpful and understandable, this one deserves a medal. Greetings from Finland!

@@danmarkfordanskereI believe you can take the clutch cover off and do it again, but in my opinion that is much more work. I thought this video is a shortcut!
