The Dessert airfield has its own icon on a map of Kerbin; it's about 90 degrees or so West of the KSC. I'm not sure however if it is part of the Making History DLC - if so you won't have it if you don't have the DLC.

Yeah as Atoms said, it comes with one of the DLCs, not present in the base game. If you know where the pyramid Easter egg is in the desert, it’s right behind that mountain, or you can set a target on it from the map screen and follow that.
