I first heard this song on The Songwriters soundtrack back in the 1980s. It blew me away then, it still does today. Kristofferson is an amazing talent. ✌️

Kris' prodigious oeuvre is like a staircase to heaven. From his earliest lyrical masterpieces which have been a foundation for these later orchestrations of genius. What a legacy indeed. You brought me up man.

What a version! The Borderlords were a great rockin' soul country band. They could stand with anybody. Stephen's guitar solo is stratospheric. One of my top 10 Kris songs easy.

I wish I could find this concert version to add to my playlist. The band and the more upbeat tempo is so perfect.

I met Kris in Las Vegas at Calamity Janes in 1992 and the guy was nice as you would expect to me and my wife, he was down to earth as Ol' Waylon, two of my favorite artists evva. His concert was amazing, all his good songs!!!

I was trying to reply back to Edward Moore oteri's comment. I just said I couldn't agree with him more. That Kristofferson is modern day William Shakespeare I had loved kristofferson's music and his words ever since I can remember. he knows how to put the words together so that they come from your heart. Make it your heart to he is so down to earth. When me and my son saw him a couple weeks ago in Maui. I guess it's been a couple months ago now. Anyways, he was great. It was the best evening in my life and I will cherish that moment forever.

I love Kris Kristofferson . he is my all time favorite singer.

Kris Kristofferson once professed any song he ever composed he prefers the way some other artist sang it. This tune I have no propensity to hear anyone else sing it but Kris. I couldn't even tell you if this has been sung by anyone else.

Oh, there really are some that he sings better than others (e.g., When I Loved Her). And even when that mayn't be the case, his own renditions lend particular resonances that make them special (e.g., compare his and Cadh's approaches to Sunday Morning...). And at his best, there's the most terrific harmony of voice and poetry and a strong sense of emotional sensibility and/or ethical authenticity. Admirable on so many counts

I know I've commented before on your awesome posts but again I must say how lucky we are that you find these great posts. I'm going to see Kris at Casino Rama with the love of my life in January. I got sober after meeting Kris's the last time he was here. Now I'm still sober but in love...guy is good luck or what!? I'm pretty sure I've posted my story about meeting him. I was invited backstage (unexpectedly ) and was blitzed, he talked to me for about 15 minutes, admired my Waylon shirt and then when I shook his hand to say goodbye he would not let go of my hand and said "you alright?" I said I was fine (I wasn't ) and he then said "you would lie to me would ya?" As I left I could tell that he was looking at me and may have made a comment next to the person beside him, perhaps wondering if they should let me leave (I was driving sadly). A total stranger actually caring about drunken old me. ..sounds cheesy but it totally changed my life. Such a small (probably forgotten) gesture by him saved my life...never forget it.

My son and my husband were there with me that night. What a great story you have to tell. I love him even more now that I read your story. Thank you for sharing. My husband was one of the few people who had one of his songs autographed .. Closer to the Bone....We had it framed. I have another one here that is also hanging on our wall....Kris at a private concert in Toronto...One of my friends took the shot my husband had taken of him at an outdoor concert . We sent it back to have Kris sign it while at this private concert.. He signed it and told the person who took it to him to tell Dolly (me) that it was a great shot. I will treasure that lovely shot of this amazing man. Your story moved me so much I wanted to tell you this. I do hope that you are still sober. He really cares about people.

I recall watching "Songwriter" with my uncle during my Sr. year in high school. (88-89) We both burst out laughing after the scene where Willie ( he played Doc.) wrapped on a woman's door declaring he was selling vacuums; she said " Someone 20 yrs. ago came here doing the same thing then knocked me up!" Doc deadpanned, " That must have been someone from our service department."

I am now the wrong side of 40 and there has not ever been a man I aint ever met nor will ever have the opportunity to meet-yet I call him my friend.Somehow,someway I gave up trying to figure it out but in so many songs and so many words as the man himself said "You been readin my mail" All I can say to Mr Kristofferson is -"Thank you for understanding a man you aint never gunna meet and thank you for allowing me to share your words"

Kris Kristofferson wurde in Brownsville, Texas geboren. Als Kind bewegte er sich oft, bis seine Eltern sich schließlich in San Mateo, Kalifornien, niederließen. Nach dem Pomona College erhielt er ein Rhodes-Stipendium an der Universität von Oxford in England als zukünftiges Schreib-Talent. Hier begann er Lieder zu singen und zu schreiben, woraufhin er vom Manager Larry Parnes entdeckt wurde. Er nahm Rekorde für Top Rank Records unter dem Namen Kris Carson auf. Die Platten waren jedoch nicht erfolgreich. 1960 schloss er sein Studium der englischen Literatur ab. Er heiratete eine alte Schulfreundin, Fran Beir, und schloss sich den USA an. Armee. Hier wurde er Hubschrauberpilot. Die Armee brachte ihn nach Westdeutschland. Hier bildete er eine Bande von Soldaten. Ein Freund von Kristofferson riet ihm, einige seiner Texte an Marijohn Wilkin, einen erfolgreichen Songwriter aus Nashville, zu senden. 1965 zog er nach Nashville, um ein professioneller Country-Musik-Autor zu werden. Die Familie geriet jedoch in Schwierigkeiten. Der Sohn von Kristofferson und Fran Beir wurde mit einer fehlerhaften Speiseröhre geboren, was zu hohen Arztrechnungen führte. Schließlich trennten sich Kristofferson und Beir voneinander. Sein erster Erfolg Kristofferson hat mit „Vietnam Blues“, ein Lied, das von Dave Dudley und bei der Leistung hoch war in den USA Land Top 20 im April 1966. Im Jahr 1971 wurde Kris Kristofferson von Dennis Hopper gebeten, den Soundtrack zu seinem Film The Last Movie zu schreiben. In diesem Film gab er sein Schauspieldebüt in einer kleinen Filmrolle. Er trat auch auf dem Isle of Wight Festival auf. Im Jahr 1972 hatte er eine größere Filmrolle in Cisco Pike, gegenüber Gene Hackman. Sein drittes Album Border Lord, das nur neues Material enthält, war kein großer kommerzieller Erfolg. Kristofferson war jedoch in diesem Jahr erfolgreich bei der Verleihung der Grammy Awards.
