• Breakthrough (1989) - ...
The song was first released on the "Music from Songwriter" album, the soundtrack to the movie "Songwriter" with Kris and Willie (1984)
• Kris Kristofferson - U...
Kris seems to really love it, for he also has a rendition of it on his album
"A moment of forever" (1995), though leaving out a verse on that one.
I DO really love it, and I do love Stephen's guitar solo here...
The Borderlords:
Billy Swan, Stephen Bruton - guitar, vocals
Glen Clark - guitar, keyboards, harmonica, vocals
Tommy McClure - bass
Donnie Fritts - keyboards, vocals
Sammy Creason - drums
Danny Timms - keyboard, vocals
Under the gun
Kris Kristofferson, 1984
Break a man, break a promise
Break a heart, break a home
Take a long hard look at a heaven
Gone to hell under the gun
See the child, young and hungry
Growing wild, on the run
And he'll die reaching for freedom
He was born under the gun
From the wall, see the soldier
Hear the call, here they come
like a storm over the border
till they fall under the gun
Swollen men, blind with power
Break the rules, one by one
With their lies raising the danger
Of their games under the gun.
No more time, no more chances
No more wars will be won
In the end only the losers
Hold the land under the gun
Hold the truth like a candle
Let it shine like the sun
On the love that's left to believe in
In a world under the gun.
Under the gun

Forgot my illness to travel miles to hear him, see him. Old age can't bend Kris. May he stay here until he is 150. Best poet who's ever written a song. And always modest and kind, letting others shine, fighting for the good in all of us. Unbreakable.

To Edward Mortary This is a reply from what you said about Kris Kristofferson I couldn't agree with you more. He is like the modern-day Shakespeare. I have always said. No way. Chris has been able to put the words together just like you said and then they really hit home. They're really from the heart and you can feel those same words in your heart.

I was trying to reply back to Edward Moore oteri's comment. I just said I couldn't agree with him more. That Kristofferson is modern day William Shakespeare I had loved kristofferson's music and his words ever since I can remember. he knows how to put the words together so that they come from your heart. Make it your heart to he is so down to earth. When me and my son saw him a couple weeks ago in Maui. I guess it's been a couple months ago now. Anyways, he was great. It was the best evening in my life and I will cherish that moment forever.

Oh, there really are some that he sings better than others (e.g., When I Loved Her). And even when that mayn't be the case, his own renditions lend particular resonances that make them special (e.g., compare his and Cadh's approaches to Sunday Morning...). And at his best, there's the most terrific harmony of voice and poetry and a strong sense of emotional sensibility and/or ethical authenticity. Admirable on so many counts

I know I've commented before on your awesome posts but again I must say how lucky we are that you find these great posts. I'm going to see Kris at Casino Rama with the love of my life in January. I got sober after meeting Kris's the last time he was here. Now I'm still sober but in love...guy is good luck or what!? I'm pretty sure I've posted my story about meeting him. I was invited backstage (unexpectedly ) and was blitzed, he talked to me for about 15 minutes, admired my Waylon shirt and then when I shook his hand to say goodbye he would not let go of my hand and said "you alright?" I said I was fine (I wasn't ) and he then said "you would lie to me would ya?" As I left I could tell that he was looking at me and may have made a comment next to the person beside him, perhaps wondering if they should let me leave (I was driving sadly). A total stranger actually caring about drunken old me. ..sounds cheesy but it totally changed my life. Such a small (probably forgotten) gesture by him saved my life...never forget it.

My husband was one of the few people who had one of his songs autographed .. Closer to the Bone....We had it framed. I have another one here that is also hanging on our wall....Kris at a private concert in Toronto...One of my friends took the shot my husband had taken of him at an outdoor concert . We sent it back to have Kris sign it while at this private concert.. He signed it and told the person who took it to him to tell Dolly (me) that it was a great shot. I will treasure that lovely shot of this amazing man. Your story moved me so much I wanted to tell you this. I do hope that you are still sober. He really cares about people.

I recall watching "Songwriter" with my uncle during my Sr. year in high school. (88-89) We both burst out laughing after the scene where Willie ( he played Doc.) wrapped on a woman's door declaring he was selling vacuums; she said " Someone 20 yrs. ago came here doing the same thing then knocked me up!" Doc deadpanned, " That must have been someone from our service department."

Roger Miller beschloss, drei Songs von ihm aufzunehmen: "Me and Bobby McGee", "Best of All Possible Worlds" und "Darby's Castle". In diesem Jahr erschien auch Kristoffers zweites Album "The Silver Tongued Devil" und "The Silver Tongued Devil".
