He still had it at 80, what a great song writer too! Love his music. Well, I woke up Sunday morning With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad So I had one more for dessert Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt And I shaved my face and combed my hair And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day I'd smoked my brain the night before on Cigarettes and songs that I'd been pickin' But I lit my first and watched a small kid Cussin' at a can that he was kicking Then I crossed the empty street And caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken And it took me back to somethin' That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way On the Sunday morning sidewalks Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned 'Cause there's something in a Sunday Makes a body feel alone And there's nothin' short of dyin' Half as lonesome as the sound On the sleepin' city sidewalks Sunday mornin' comin' down In the park I saw a daddy With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin' And I stopped beside a Sunday school Listened to the song that they were singin' Then I headed back for home And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin' And it echoed through the canyons Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday On the Sunday morning sidewalks Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned 'Cause there's something in a Sunday Makes a body feel alone And there's nothin' short of dyin' Half as lonesome as the sound On the sleepin' city sidewalks Sunday mornin' comin' down

WE LOVE YOU, LORD! YOU GAVE ALL FOR US. YOUR SUFFERING WAS IMMENSE! WE GIVE YOU ALL THE GLORY! YOU ARE OUR LIFE SAVIOR. YOU KEEP YOUR WORD IN THE BIBLE. May God bless this praise to the ends of the Earth. In Jesus name we pray. I met Kris many years ago in Malibu, Ca. We had a brief fellowship. There was Christ's love between us. A lovely saint I will miss until I see him in Heaven. GOD'S BLESSINGS TO ALL NATIONS AND PEOPLES Gospel! The good news about Jesus Christ and salvation from judgment on our sins. Jesus dined with His disciples; Mark 14:22-25, the night before He went to the cross. Jesus and His disciples were eating a Passover meal together at the Last Supper. After partaking of bread and wine (His body and His blood) , the Bible mentions the hymn Jesus sang with His disciples. “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives” Mark 14:26. What were they singing on such an occasion? PRAISE! Psalms 113-118. THE GOOD NEWS "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.."John 14.6 Blood coming from his body, NAKED, hanging on that cross like Roman torture weapon! What a Lord God and Savior! He had to. HE is God the Son. Only His sinless blood could pay our sins price.1 John 2:1-2. The Savior was born to die for our sins so we could live through Him. I Subscribed. God knew your faithful praise ministry before the world was made! Ephesians 1:1-14. Prayer goes out for you and those here. A Crown in Heaven awaits all who share the Gospel of Jesus Christ that saves a soul. ( see"JESUS SAVES") 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20; Philippians 4:1. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek". This praise resounds throughout the earth: "Jesus Christ is Lord and God. Only He saves". He testified: ''I and my Father are One" John 10:30 2 Samuel chapter 22:verse 50 "Therefore I will praise you, O Lord, out of the countries, and I will praise your name." JESUS SAVES God the Son (Jesus Christ) has given us the gospel to share with the world. Mark 16:15: "And He said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." How can we hear it? Scripture tells us. Romans 10:17 "Then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (We receive the "word" in many ways. The "Word" is Jesus Christ!); John 1:1-5. God the Holy Spirit teaches through the Word of God in the Bible. The Birth of Jesus Christ Isaiah 7: 14: "Therefore the LORD shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and call His name Immanuel." Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל, "God with us" in human flesh but without sin. The Savior of the world was born to die for our sins! He did so 33 years later. His terrible ordeal; body mutilated; blood poured out, finally died (John 19:30; Luke 23:46 ) and was placed in a tomb and rose from the dead the 3rd day ! "HE IS RISEN" Matthew 28: 6. Isaiah 53:" 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." - IT IS FOUNDED UPON GOD'S LOVE FOR MAN AND WOMAN HE CREATED John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3: 23 " For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 "1 Corinthians 15: 3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" THE PAYMENT BY HIS BLOOD FOR ALL SINS EVER! Romans 5:8 " But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him." “For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21. " In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;." Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19. Matthew 26: 28 "For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (the life is in the blood. He had to pay with His life) "And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." Hebrews 9:22 BY GOD'S GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE IN JESUS CHRIST ARE WE SAVED Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast." Jesus died and paid the penalty for our sins to rescue us from eternal death. He died on our behalf. We believe in Him, trusting His death and shedding of His blood as payment for ALL our sins and His burial and resurrection from the dead the third day! John 20:24-31; 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 above. WHOSOEVER BELIEVES SHALL TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH Romans 10: 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” TO DIE IS TO REJECT SALVATION IN JESUS CHRIST AND BE SEPARATE FROM GOD FOREVERMORE Salvation and forgiveness of sins is the blessing of anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We receive the baptism of God the Holy Spirit immediately which seals us in Christ and that is permanent! Ephesians 1:13-14. Those who reject the free gift of salvation, see John 3:16 above, "perish", which means their sins are judged by God the Son and they suffer eternal separation from God and the family of God forever called the "second death". Revelation 21:8.

At the time, I first heard Jason, he was a young local guy that mostly known in the area and was playing backup for someone at a Holiday Inn. I got to see and here Donnie Fritts at that same hotel. Also saw Donnie Fritts at another great Hotel Bar, called SWAMPPERS, in the Marriott. Also lucky to sit with Donnie and here stories of his great career and Kris’s Kristofferson was one of his music friends. Live music is Alive and Well in Muscle Shoals Alabama. @@kriskristofferson5565 Hi Kris, This song is one of the most intense in the English language, kills me every time. I'm about your age and we know the feeling when "the music stops and the crowds go home"....but your music will never stop as long as people have hearts in their breasts, always remember that you have touched something in people that very few performers manage to do. All human emotions are meaningful and build character, loneliness, joy, surprise, even love, though it is underrated these days. You are fortunate that millions of people sincerely love you for the emotions you have engendered amongst them.......keep on going, I do that and still work at nearly 80 in the building trade. to my mother Dorothy [1925-2001] - thank you for passing to me your love of the music, who wrote the songs, who sang them, & the stories behind them - I'm grateful for your love of reading liner notes soaking up all you could about the music so you could share it with me as i grew into a young woman and now as an old woman I truly know & understand what you have given me.💖

This is my favorite Kristofferson song -- the most incredible portrait of what loneliness and despair feels like that has ever been written, On the Ken Burns series, Kris said that this is exactly what his life was like at the time, including the two beers in the morning.

I've just noticed how many times children are mentioned in this song. Sounds like the person in the song was yearning for the stability and fulfilment of marriage and family life, rather than the lonely life he was living.

When I was 5-6? Going with my Momma Dadd to calf ropings , ( he wouldn’t let me bring my saddle or horse, so, I had to flog my legs in his saddle): to trot a 36….had 2 8track tapes we’d plug in when we were out of radio range… Heard Johnny Cash sang Kris’s song. Made me spend most of of my l younger figuring out who wrote those songs, who led me to Kris… than you , Kris , for being one of the best poets, song writers, of our time… mom loved “ put on my cleanest dirty shirt”..
