Kratos apologizing to Atreus is in character. He has really grown out of the rage he carried and turned more patient. No doubt because of Faye and Atreus. What a development. Christopher Judge really sold it with his voice acting.

I am aware that people are angry about Kratos showing human emotions when he is supposed to be a badass warrior and stuff... But guys, see the character development they've given to him. I, too, cannot think about how this is the same Kratos who destroyed entire Greece to get his revenge.

I believe it is because of Faye and Atreus. Deep down Kratos craved the redemption and peace he thought undeserving. Atreus made him want to work to be better. Maybe he'll achieve that.

Kratos already smiled when he got the answer of sorry from atreus

Kratos is big enough to admit he is sorry... Fatherhood made him more human
