Dave proves he has no credibility by giving omega ospreay a 6 meaning best match ever despite the fact it had such a hokey ending where callis was thrown out and managed to come back enabling omega to lose without really putting ospreay over clean. No matter what you can’t call that the best match ever. Especially since he gave rock hogan a 3 so it’s half as better

@@tomsmall1244 True, but the problem with Dave is that he is able to vote for Hall of Fame’s and his rating system carries merits for those to get into. Kenny Omega is in those Hall of Fames due to his approval rating of Dave. While Kurt has a harder time for those Hall of Fames because of lack of 5 star matches. That’s a major problem. Dave is more than welcomed to have his opinion but he has to be subjective to matches. There’s zero reasons on various Hall of Fames for wrestling for Angle to not have such a rating. He’s overlooked on the scales when certain of Hall of Fame want star ratings. And that’s why a majority hate his ratings and when he gives Omega so much. Rock vs Hogan is only 3 stars? His reasoning was other wrestlers could do the exact same match. Show me a match that had a crowd on those levels, that alone makes it 5 star and worthy of Hall of Fame recognition. But Dave having so much control. A match like that wouldn’t get honored and used as a teaching tool for future wrestlers. Which is a shame.

@@SjC420 Not especially. The scale's changed. Once he broke it with the 6/7 star matches, 5s don't mean what they once did. Dave's said this a few times. But everyone just focuses on the number and gets irrationally angry. Which is weird, because it doesn't matter. If a match is 4*s or above, it's probably worth checking out. That's it. Dave definitely likes athletic wrestling, but that's not a surprise. He's said for decades that lucha libre is his favourite style. So of course a much more hard-hitting kind of lucha libre - which is basically what the BUcks do - is going to hit his happy spot. But he equally likes hard-hitting brawls. So long as he's not SHITTING on wrestlers that aren't wrestling his favourite style (he doesn't) who cares? It's not like people don't get their due. It comes down to people being angry that dave didn't like their favourite wrestler ENOUGH. Which is the dumbest thing to be angry over.

I heard the interview, and I saw that Chris Van Vliet struck me as a guy who really, REALLY likes WWE and was trying to stick up for them. Chris Van Vliet was voicing the concerns of many WWE fans, that Dave Meltzer just doesn't like their product, and Dave's ratings just reflect his personal preference (which is objectively true about any critic). Chris kept pressing the question, which started sounding like he really RESENTED Meltzer not giving WWE more 5 star matches. But Meltzer judges matches based on the ACTUAL WRESTLING IN THE RING, not the media marketing, the scripted soap opera/dramatic elements that brought these characters together, or the emotional attachment that fans had to the characters. In everything I just sad, WWE is far and away better than any company at doing - but they don't actually very many good ACTUAL matches because of their safer, pared down style where everyone is expected to perform moves in exactly the same manner. It's recognizable, easy to follow along, and trains the audience on what to expect. But it doesn't produce 5-star matches.
