Koi measure up - plus a chat about body shape
October 2022 measure up ahead of the winter period. I take a look at each Koi in the pond and give them a once over and a measure. It's been a year since they were last out so it's interesting to compare sizes with this time last year and see how they have grown and developed.
I've got 2 very different Chagoi in the pond at the moment. One very cheap fish and the other is a much better quality koi. These two are great examples of two different body shapes and they also demonstrate how koi develop based on their body shape.

Interesting comparison on the Chag's. I wonder then what the difference would be between a £200 Chag and a £2000 Chag.
I am building a similar size pond as yours, and you mentioned that you will have to move your better koi on sooner because of its growth. What determines the maximum acceptable size of Koi for your pond? Thanks again for these interesting videos.
With a body like this, is this a Marusei or Marudo? Absolutely stunning. Absolutely loved that chag when you first got her and now it's like a pure gem. 🤩🤩

I don't think your going to get the groth you want only using wheat germ. You need a groth food. Also not feeding multiple times a day doesn't help

Hi Richard, I've been only feeding wheatgerm for many years and get more than enough growth. A friend of mine grew a Chag to a metre on only hikari wheatgerm. I dont particularly want big growth as my current pond isnt big enough but they still grow very well. Also, I havent had the feeder running recently as im not currently living at the house with the pond but I normalyl feed 10 or 12 feeds a day.. 10 or 12 feeds a day hikari wheatgerm provides more nutritional value than 7 or 8 feeds with high protein food but doesnt pollute your water with waste that koi cannot assimilate.
