Selecting KOI with a strong BODY POSTURE | Big Koi Fish

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Key things to look at when you select a good Koi is the body posture. It is a key factor in determing the size of a Koi. Can a Koi grow big, or can it become a HUGE KOI FISH?
It affects the growth rate, mass building potential and how large a Koi can reach. It is considered as one of the key factors for a high quality Koi.
Body posture really is a key factor when a Koi is 1, 2 or 3 years old when you select one for your own pond. A good body posture is key for a magnificent and elegant look when a Koi becomes larger.
In this video we will cover a few topics regarding the body posture of a Koi. It are the basic concepts that I look for when I select Koi which I also advice to you to learn more about. The topics that I cover in this video are the following:
- The backbone of a Koi
- The width of the shoulders
- The belly proportions
- The tail area
- The pectoral fins
- Head proportions and the mouth

    Of all of the ornamental fish species that we keep, I don't believe there to be any where more attention is payed to development than the Koi :) The koi is truly the king of the freshwater hobby !

    The usual high quality video. Surely some of this depends on the sex of the koi, males and females fin shape differs with males having larger fins and females usually having much larger bodies. A lot of very good information, very well presented. Keep safe and well

    Great video on this topic, couldn't agree more with all the points brought up apart from one where you mentioned that the back bone shouldn't be too much on the surface. Thought the more backbone visible the higher chances of the fish to carry big body shape? cheers

  • @Aboutkoi

    @Aboutkoi

    Hi there, thank you for your comment! Yes, that's indeed what I mentioned. I think I mentioned it should be proportional. Of course a strong backbone visible is good, but it shouldn't be over the top.

    If you feed with all your might them for a whole season (especially in summer), you can get a good idea of what they are like. You can get a better idea of the maximum size of the KOI by looking at them like this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqqar9qvfLbIk6w.html For example, the left one is around 70cm and the right one can't be more than 65cm... If they are still skinny, it is difficult to know without information about OYAGOI or their brothers and sisters.

    @@Aboutkoi It is impossible to know completely. But little by little it becomes clear that there is no possibility. Then again, that's what professionals do, isn't it?
