Hey Mr. Hendricks. Wire edges were something I always struggled with and could never fully get rid of at the end of my sharpening sessions. The techniques you showcased in your deburring video has been invaluable in leveling up my sharpening game. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Glad to see you posting videos again.

Yes. As you can see, I could comfortably touch the blade with my bare hands the entire time. It never got anywhere close to being too hot to cause an issue with the heat treatment. Belt grinders like that are used in the making of knives all the time, so pretty much any brand new knife you buy has already been ground on a belt grinder like that with the final (and sometimes entire blade grind) grinding and polishing done after the blade was heat treated.

I enjoyed this video very much. I would love to know what grit sandpaper and the type of belts you’re using when you do your work, so I know how to be not too aggressive. It was interesting that you still finished on the stone to put a secondary bevel instead of the grind carrying through for the sharpness. Ryan Swanson does the same thing so it was nice to see. The end result was great. I did notice early in the video you were taking the handle off, but then suddenly in the video, the handle was back on again, and then it was off again, so I didn’t know if that was by design or just editing. I was also concerned in the video for your breathing protection. I saw you had your face covered for the hot glue, but couldn’t tell if you had some type of respirator on for the belt sander. Always concerned about everyone’s health! Happy new year. I really did appreciate the video. Maybe some words that tell us what you’re doing and maybe you don’t want to and just want to keep it an industry secret. God bless and thank you for taking the time.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I did take the handle on and off several times during the process. So that was not due to video editing. Everything in the video is shown in order. I used from 36, 80, 120, 220, and 400 grit belts I believe plus a scotchbrite belt. Norton Blaze belts are currently my favorite rough belts. I do wear a respirator the whole time except when I’m using waterstones. Ryan is awesome. He always does a good job.

Like this video. Next time could explain why you’re doing different techniques? I’m trying to learn knife thinning on grinders.
