Thank you so much! I have been looking everywhere to learn how to find the breaker for my smoke detectors. This is a great video that demonstrates how to use the Klein Finder and its accessory kit. It's time to change all the smoke/Co2 detectors in the house and I didn't think I would ever find a way to locate the breaker.

Bought one of these Circuit Breaker Finders, same model, a while ago right after I spent a couple of days at our house, and my MIL's house, doing a whole lot of electrical work. During those two events I was on the phone with my wife on the inside while I was on the breakers outside. "Is that it? ... ok... Is that it? ...ok... Is THAT it? ... ok..." etc. I got one of these a couple of days later and haven't needed it until today. Your video is awesome. It's simple and to the point, and that damn switch was annoying me as well, so thanks for the hint about that. Now that I've seen this video, I'm going to go check out your other videos to see if you have any hints about a GFCI in the master bedroom bathroom shutting off the outlet for the fridge in the garage. ;-)

Bought the same setup about 17 years ago. Red in color and sold by another major electrical parts supplier. Mine is rated for 110/220 volts. As for the accessory kit it is way overpriced. You can buy most of these adapters at most big box hardware stores for under 8 dollars. They are a great tool that saves time.

Just ordered mine, waiting for it to arrive. I hope it works as shown. I purchased an cheap off brand from Harbor Freight. Very unreliable and hard to use. Went right back to the store. Good demonstration.

I own both the Klein and HF models. Identical devices, same workers, same factory. I bought the HF model first for $15, picked up the Klein model at the Depot when it was on clearance for $10.

A very thin o-ring or small rubber band stretched around the powewr button keeps it from turning on inadvertently and the button can still be pushed, albeit a little firmer, to turn the receiver on and off.

Could I use this tool not only to find a breaker switch, but to also locate other lines in a wall for continuity using the clips and the wand? Example: Two different outlets and I want to know if they share a "hot." Can I place the RED on hot (black) and use any neutral in the wall to check further down the run if it's the same hot (black) wire providing power?

Do you know of a breaker finder that could include a clamp to test a non-bare wire? If there's a set of wires that run into a wall, I would like to know which wire is part of which breaker. All I've seen have either the plug-in (like you show), and the bare wire adapter.

I don't think so because the transmitter sends a signal down the wire. I don't think an induction (clamp-on) style would work.

I'm not sure I understand your question but if you are trying to locate say one romex cable running in the attic out of a dozen of them, then yes this tool will pick out a cable from the bunch. Plug in the transmitter and then test each cable separately with the receiver. Lift and separate so you know which cable you are checking. Work through the bunch until it beeps, then do it a few more times to be sure. Then unplug the transmitter and recheck the wire you believe it is. If it no longer beeps you have the right cable.

I had an issue with the circuit breaker finder. Idk why once I kill the power in the breaker it already indicated, the light in the receiver kept on. That was weird, it already happened twice to me.

Sometimes circuits are wired weirdly. Make sure you scan the entire panel, you have to calibrate the receiver to ignore the electrical noise.

Dirty electricity, improperly wired neutrals, ground to neutral voltage may be suspect.

Should've saved the packaging the tester came in, it protects the tester and keeps it from accidently turning on. Since you cut up the packaging, use a small O-ring around the switch, bread tie! Please.

Don't take advice from anybody who doesn't know how to open a blister package. Cut around the edges of the package, two sides is enough. I use the packaging the tester came in for storage.

It's a shame Klien Tool's quality has gotten worse over the years. The insulator falling off the Alligator Clip is a prime example. We stopped buying their products...
