What are some of your personal hacks for good radio/wire management on your kit?

  • @briankudalis9572

What you have going on looks perfect . What more could you ask for? Maybe a two switch selector push to talk for your left shoulder to free up your right shoulder for firing a rifle? Little stubby antenna on low power transmit power for your group so you don't transmit beyond your area . So you don't notify anyone nearby who might be scanning nearby frequencies,( lower your output signature) on your group radio and a collapsible Yogi directional antenna for your other radio so you only transmit to your headquarters and not everyone else in the immediate area? You loose a little transmit power going through the coax cable but who wants that annoying antennae in the way all the time. The only thing I don't like is the push to talk on the right shoulder.

I like consolidating most of the wires in the pouch with my radio, if I need to pull it out for some reason I have some extra slack. Also rubber bands are awesome for preventing snag hazards

Great Video and content, much appreciated for sharing....however i was missing some of the context for this setup: Individual gear is always mission, SOP, METT-TC,....etc dependent, and there were no indication (for me) of the video what was the main intent behind this setup. It looks a fairly decent training/dry cas/range setup, or a limited mounted setup in case of vehicular operations. Helmet setup is slick and well thought out. Me personally never preferred the Peltors on the rail, because it makes difficult to take the helmet off. Sometimes there are downtimes in operations, but that does not mean there is no air and continuous control needs to be performed. Becomes more exciting on multi day missions. Belt: Nice low profile setup. Putting there the PLRF makes a lot of sense on the belt. IFAK however is very minimalistic. It is of course team SOP dependent but most i have seen dictates way more medical gear than that. Plate Carrier: Good radio placement but relocating both antennas makes troubleshooting impossible. I always hated it. It is personal preference again of course, cool and comfortable, however if any issue arise than either external assist is required or one needs to remove the PC to fix it. Been there done that..not fun. Antenna relocation also a problem due to loss of power. More cables, more connectors equals less ranger. Without an amplifier/117G the output is limited. In a permissive environment it is OK if the bird is in a high altitude, weather is good, terrain is nice. However as soon as the environment turns into less permissive and one needs to offset the A/C...problems start. Solution is usually more power, but this setup eliminates the option more or less to wear a backpack, which can hold a 117G for better comms. Also i was missing marking/signal/observation equipment. ATAK and PLRF are a nice and effective combination, but not able to tackle every situation. IZLIID for the night, NVG (can be placed on the helmet for daytime of course), Chemlights, Smoke, VS17, Signal Mirror, HLM, 40mm, heat skeet and anything that comes to imagination. Also these are most of the time can cramped only into the backpack, not to mention sustainment. Ammo can be an endless argument, 3/1/1 is only 5 mags on the gear and in the weapon. If that is OK for the unit, happy times. I usually preferred to carry 6 mags (that was the unit minimum) + 1 mag of full tracer (IR or regular, depended on the situation). Of course that cummerbund can accommodate way more. Again, appreciate the video, nice content, well thought out gear. My recommendation would be to putting the video in context so the end user have some idea on what was the intent behind the kit. I am sure this is cool for a quick DA mission for the daytime or training, but sure thing would not survive the test of time for other type of missions. JTAC`s (even if it is a secondary job) can be more demanding on the gear side. It is a technical sport, and gear is required to remain effective in any situation what the day may bring. GZ ex JTAC/JTAC-I

ALL YOU LARPERS LISTEN UP. THIS GUYS KIT WORKS FOR HIM IN HIS JOB AS A GB. UNLESS YOU ARE ON AN ODA, YOUR KIT BETTER BE INFANTRY STYLE BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE WITH 3-4 MAGS. Ffs all you larpers cling to the SF loadouts.

Look at the TCA brand PRC-152A radio. Only the TRC brand, and only the 2023 model. It comes with GPS, and a KDU (a keyboard display unit) that you can mount on your vest. For about $450 dollars, it also has all the same connectors, and can take real Harris battery packs. It can also take the Harris, or Thymes, brand real antennas. It does VHF and UHF, but not digital.

@@jhutch1470 it's a good larp radio, but I wouldn't recommend it for civilians. There are radios that are way more capable and are significantly lighter. Motorola DTR700 or the Hytera HP682 would be what I would recommend.

@@Chief-ek1vl Of course. I figured he was asking how to get the same type of radio setup. I like to choose something like the Anytone AT-D878UVi portable. It does analog, and digital, both in VHF and UHF, and still uses the Kenwood plug for accessories. P-25 is nice but very few people have it. Moto Trbo is much more common, so you can be ready to get onto many more people's comms setups at a moments notice.

at least you get your stuff issued to you. at the level of the state militia ( no not the fools running around hopping for the end of times. we are your base support here in Ca only. we do the base camps for fire fighters, help out on SAR, we do the things to make others jobs easer). i get to source out and pay for all my equipment. living on ss i do not have much money to “play” with so i need to buy the best up front. at 64 i am the “kid” in my squad. this year (2024) medical training had been the top thing. no never a Dr but learning how to treat wounds. before we can get you to a Dr. like i said we do support not ment for front line action.
