Such an amazing family, I love how aware they are of each other and how good the girls have gotten at dispelling the aggression between the boys. Nene is such a brave old lady lol!

@@peterl1287 Yes! I love Nene! A lot of people can’t stand her,which is very sad. They want her to act the way they think a gorilla should act. Some really cruel things are said. The gorilla Genki gets even more hate.

@@MySkinnydip Yes it is sad and it all comes down to that anthropomorphizing I always warn people about: they are gorillas, not humans and none of us are educated enough to make judgements on their behaviour. A lot of them have traumas from their initial capture or worse if they were rescued from poachers but people don't do the research. I'm glad you're rooting for the girls because they are doing what I imagine is their best to raise their young and cooperate with the silverbacks. Not every male can be D'Jeeco or Haoko. Momo for example, as much as I love him, is still more of a brute by nature because he had to survive on his own. etc etc could go on for hours.

Looked at the incident too and thought there may have been a small food stash that kiyo was eyeing? Love Annie for supporting her daddy and it is well deserved. Kiyo hooting and dancing had me laughing 😆 Then classic shabani with the toe love bites so we know all is well. For now! You hit it out of the park JZ with another interesting video. Thank you.

I love this family and Shabani is a wonderful father but the time is coming soon to where they need to find a solution to where they will place Kiyo. I get there are zoo politics in Japan but they really need to be able to work with the US and other countries to provide these growing Gorillas with safe environments of their own to start their own troops or bachelor groups in order to have a successful bloodline in the future. They are wonderful animals who deserve a chance.

As far as I know there are no young female gorillas in Japan that Kiyomasa could be matched with. The two young females (age 11 and 14) at Ueno Zoo are his cousins, as their father Haoko is Shabani's brother or half-brother. The only other female gorilla that doesn't have a mate is Rola at Chiba Zoo, but she's much older than him and has never mated; she doesn't like other gorillas so lives alone. If he's ever going to have a natural life with a mate, a troop and offspring of his own, he really has to leave Japan. Japanese zoos just don't have the space to start new troops, anyway.

i noticed that a while ago, when kiyo and shabani got into fights, it would take a long time for kiyo to forgive. but now whenever they fight, kiyo gets over it much faster and they go back to playing.

That fight has been like - Who of the two starts first? For me it has been more like a frustration Shabani is too good a dad I am curious about how his father Kibabu was with him in Taronga. His mom Moulia was a gorilla sweetheart and a great mom

Kibabu was a great dad but 18 offspring he was pretty busy, he had a quick temper, he reminds me of Haoko.

Kibabu was a fabulous father, he was gentle, attentive, caring and tough when needed. All the females loved him and I'm meaning gorilla and human 😃😃😃. Would watch him and his troop regularly and it was lovely 😁😁. We need Shabani and his troop back at Taronga 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Shabni attacked. For 2 reasons. One, ki pretends to play. To get Shabani's guard down. He just slipped pass. Two, When ki was on the steps. Ki was probably about to drum. Indicating domince. Or Ki was trying. To climb up. To get to the girls.

Maybe Shabani was daydreaming and suddenly startled when Kiyomasa came and unfortunately his reflex was to attack him. Poor Kiyo, he just wanted to play with Dad ❤🦍

If you look the keeper's hands are right there I think shabani thought his son was going to get snacks instead of him.

I love watching the communication between them. I can only guess what some mean.

Shabani wasnt happy since they went in doors, that whole time i saw him looking like he was 1 step away from ripping kiyomasa a new one! im assuming (not 100%) it had something to do with the fact the females were indoors and he was keeping kiyomasa out because of asserting dominance and kiyomasa pushed his way in pretending to be playful (like a manipulative male) and then stepping up to Shabani's height and turning his back on him is luck bugger off im not scared of you! again all my assumption but the body language says it all shabani was stiff and had an eye on kiyomasa that whole time indoors and kiyo was not stiff at all like he didnt give a crap! edit: it's sad because they should be moving kiyomasa and annie to new troops of younger gorillas from other zoos, but i suppose that's what happens with captive breeding you can't keep these animals locked up like this just not the way they're supposed to live.

The Shabani group does not go into separate enclosures at mealtime. Because Nene is older and slower on her feet, the keepers may feed her over the fence if she is not getting enough nutrients.

Kiyo is very spoiled by the females, he doesn’t have an off button an does get on Shabanis nerves. Nene is get slower but the old girl always protects her boy an hence why I call him to spoiled. We love his playfulness but it can be tiring

There are no enrichment activities for these gorillas and the facilities are substandard. The poor gorillas are bored in their concrete “jungle.” Heartbreaking.

What did Kiyo do wrong to make Shabani mad?

I think its just instinctual, when there's food around, things sometimes turn into squabbles, even if nothing bad happened.

@@bigboytoyz541 There were the leftover's of Shabani's meal (leaves of lettuce and some grass) right where Kiyomasa was resting himself. I don't think it was entirely food but let's not forget despite how much we humanize and remark on their intelligence these are still instinct-driven animals. Can't read the mind of something that doesn't have human thoughts.
