Killer Spider Vs Killer Ants The Ultimate Educational Bug Battle

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Deadly Spider Vs Angry Ants. See how a dangerous Redback spider contends with an ant nest. This Redback was the one I found around the toy tubs and I'm following up on one of the most requested critter bug battles. Don't be too worried about the Redback it's a deadly pest that's in plague numbers at my home. In fact the spider infestation I have had spawned a series of videos that studies the amazing Australian Redback spider. It's a spider that's so skilled at killing and adapting to unnatural environments is totally scary. It also has an ability to breed up huge numbers of spiderlings in very little time. Many people say insects that are smaller than a Redback can be easily killed by the spider. I'm sure this idea is put to the test in this nature study. Video posted as educational, documentary, and scientific and forms part of my Redback Spider study series of videos.

The Redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females have a body length of about 10 millimetres (0.4 in), while the male is much smaller, being only 3-4 mm (0.12-0.16 in) long. Mainly nocturnal, the female Redback lives in an untidy web in a warm sheltered location, commonly near or inside human residences. It preys on insects, spiders and small vertebrates that become ensnared in its web. It kills its prey by injecting a complex venom through its two fangs when it bites, before wrapping them in silk and sucking out the liquefied insides. Male spiders and spiderlings often live on the periphery of the female spiders' web and steal leftovers. Other species of spider and parasitoid wasps prey on this species. The Redback is one of few arachnids which usually display sexual cannibalism while mating. The sperm is then stored in the spermathecae, organs of the female reproductive tract, and can be used up to two years later to fertilise several clutches of eggs. Each clutch averages 250 eggs and is housed in a round white silken egg sac. The Redback spider has a widespread distribution in Australia, and inadvertent introductions have led to established colonies in New Zealand, Japan, and in greenhouses in Belgium.
The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia.
Ants are eusocial insects of the family Formicidae and, along with the related wasps and bees, belong to the order Hymenoptera. Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in the Cretaceous period, about 99 million years ago, and diversified after the rise of flowering plants. More than 12,500 of an estimated total of 22,000 species have been classified.They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and the distinctive node-like structure that forms their slender waists. Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organised colonies that may occupy large territories and consist of millions of individuals. Larger colonies consist mostly of sterile, wingless females forming castes of "workers", "soldiers", or other specialised groups. Nearly all ant colonies also have some fertile males called "drones" and one or more fertile females called "queens". The colonies are described as superorganisms because the ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony.
Ants have colonised almost every landmass on Earth. The only places lacking indigenous ants are Antarctica and a few remote or inhospitable islands. Ants thrive in most ecosystems and may form 15-25% of the terrestrial animal biomass. Their success in so many environments has been attributed to their social organisation and their ability to modify habitats, tap resources, and defend themselves. Their long co-evolution with other species has led to mimetic, commensal, parasitic, and mutualistic relationships.

    Simple spider video that exposes a ton of questions about spider behaviour. The timelapse video that I did after this battle becomes quite complex, and as always expect the unexpected.

    This was an interesting battle. The spider moves much faster than the ants and tried to get up/out by laying web. She probably would have been able to get away, but the battle arena keeps her movement limited. The liquid coming out of the front of the spider is called Druid Fluid. It's very powerful, actually. +3 mana/turn. The ants kept using the same attacks, bite and sting, but they can attack every turn if they're close enough and there were just too many of them.

    You probably heard this by now, but that stance she's taking is a spider's fighting stance so that they appear bigger from the front to their opponent, gives them an easy path for their fangs, and the legs in the air also allow for grappling. As for the frothing, that's definitely her venom.

    You should see the Florida Fire Ant(that's what we call them), you disturb a nest and there will be 1000s instantly. Way faster than the ants in your video, you wouldn't see the spider at all, they swarm. They'll seriously mess up your day if you step on a nest without realizing it, you'll be running and tossing your clothes, shoes and socks off looking for a hose. Feels like you just stepped in a fire.

    You were right; the pose she was taking with her legs up was a threatening pose, showing that she could grab while also showing off her fangs. As far as the markings, many invertebrates have bright markings to signify that they're poisonous/venomous as a sort of warning: 'I'm not worth eating, don't take a bite.' Also, seeing those shivery death legs was still a bit sad, even though I understand your situation and watch these videos..

  • @andrewcomments5812

    @andrewcomments5812

    I don't think that was a threat posture. The legs raised up and fangs showing deal is generally a Mygalomorph infraorder thing. You see it with tarantulas, funnel web spiders, wandering spiders, and other large spiders with large fangs. I think the angle and positioning of the red back made it look like it was threat posturing. It would be pointless even if red backs did do threat postures because their fangs are so tiny, you can't even see them without getting super close or using a magnifying glass. Another reason why it would be pointless is that it's contrary to how red backs can attack. The threat posture works for Mygalomorphs because their fangs are huge, dagger-shaped, and can slam down with authority from that posture.

    leokimvideo I think you are overestimating how smart they are. She couldn't find anywhere to settle so she just kept doing that loop to search for something. Honestly adding some sort of branch to let her use her back legs plus web would've been way cooler since they only seem to do that when they're hanging. He does have a point about the branch though. You kinda just threw it in there with nothing just to prove that indeed this spider is capable of dying lol

    +Atsuma Actually if you look there are a few twigs and bits of wood, this proves Redbacks may dominate larger, slower, mostly prey insects but it doesn't stand a chance against the unstoppable force of nature which are ants (no ant casualties it couldn't even kill one lol). Btw I doubt he would risk it with sydney funnel webs or snakes and anything larger is probably illegal so i don't think there are anymore worthy opponents to match the redbacks
