The mantis cannot possibly take down a tarantula but does not seem to realize this and keeps bothering the spider. The spider was not hungry and didn't consider the mantis a threat otherwise this would have ended very quickly. I've seen feeding videos from people who keep tarantulas and they can strike prey (or an unwelcome male making mating approaches to a female) so fast that the eye has trouble following the action. The spider keepers jokingly call this "teleporting".

1:33 played back at x0.25 and the mantis’ attack is still too fast to see. Incredible.

Praying mantises don't really recognize anything larger than themselves as potential prey, and is more likely to perceive them as a threat. That's why the mantis didn't care to try to eat the big leaf insect (an herbivore, btw), or the tarantula.

Tarantulas are Beautiful Creatures and we as Humans should be trying to Intentionally harm them; same for Praying Mantis.

I owned a green male mantis before, and man he was fearless! He'd kill anything placed in with him. He was very curious and gentle towards me and also had 0 fear of my presence. Mantis' cannot process fear. Truly fearless predators.
