Kia Soul Engine Replacement

2011 Kia Soul 2.0 engine replacement. This is the same engine and Soul from the video from last week that I did the timing belt tutorial on. In this video, I show the engine removal process and show it running at the end. This is actually a fairly simple engine to replace as long as you take your time and do not rush through it. The only "specialty" tools needed was a engine hoist really. Just basic hand tools were used other wise to remove the entire engine. When it comes to a hoist, I would say at least use a decent brand/quality because you may need to be under it and you do not want it to fail and hurt you or worse. I recommend at least a Torin from Northern Tools over a Harbor Freight one. I have seen them fail in person before.

How long would it take for someone who's never done this before? I'm mechanically inclined and have all the tools and I've done big jobs just never pulled an engine. Doing it for a friend so I'm curious so I can figure out how much to charge for labor.

I would say set aside a weekend just in case anything was to happen to be honest. But, if you are pretty mechanical then you could have it out and at least sat back in the car in a day. Then you could finish it up the following day.

Have you tried looking on car-part.com? I found it on that website and called the places listed on there.
Did you get a new engine or used one. And what does it cost to replace ? My car has that knocking sound I have 111,000 miles.

I got a used engine and it is still running good. For me to do it I think I charged 900 in labor cost on this one.
what caused engine failure? and at what mileage?

The timing belt snapped and bent valves and it was at over 200k when it happened. The price of the engine with less miles was not much more expensive than it would have been to rebuild the head and put all the parts in it that it needed.

The engine had about 180k I believe when it broke and the engine I replaced it with had 125k. Thank you for watching as well.
