I've been working on cars for 35 years, but I've not had the honor of working on a 11' Kia Soul until I met the woman I married, that is, and it's time to do this I grasp the idea of what needs to be done, but I tried to find a repair manual which is really hard even called Haynes and asked them and the answer I got was Kia didn't make enough of them to justify a repair manual I see these things everywhere, okay whatever, but thank you this is the best walkthrough of this procedure on YT, and my best advice for folks who are doing this without the years or experience or education, take your time, take pictures of how things are before you remove them, keep everything together, make notes of what you did if that helps, walk away for a bit if you get frustrated, it's a struggle at least on mine to get the belts off, very tight spaces. Mine was special lol two twists on that AC idle pulley and the whole thing came off including the adjustor bracket, lol will be fun putting that back together, so it is the way of automotive repair, am I right? She bought the car before we met, when it had a tad over 80k on the clock I asked did they do the timing belt, she had no idea and now it's at 178k and I have to be honest I'm anxious to see what it looks like going off the state of the AC belt which looked like a Dog had it for a day as a chew toy!!!! I told my wife it's a ticking time bomb as we don't know if they ever changed that belt, it needs to be done as it's an interference engine and if the drive belt snaps it's goodbye Kia, grant you I have heard of guys getting galactic scale lucky and nothing was bent like valves, but in most cases it's adios little guy. On my Kia Soul repair project, some previous technician either didnt tighten the tensioner bolt, or positioned the tensioner so that it wasnt bolted flush against the block. This caused the belt to rub and cut a groove in the plastic cover. And there was a missing water pump bolt, so it was leaking. Thanks for posting this video, super helpful.

Thanks and very helpful... where the tenisoner goes, it can sit in either freeze plug area an bolt up... I thought it was the lower hole cause of marks, but i dont like to guess and you showed it... Thanks. Cause i had to remove it before i could see all that to get the timing belt off. Also if you dont have a cam holder to get the Cam pulley off.. the cam shaft has a 1 and 1/16 hex on it to hold the cam to get that pulley off. But it is not necessary to do the water pump, only to do the cam seal.

Might have to get my timing belt changed in this same Kia. This is the first time I've ever owned a car with a timing belt. There are pluses and minuses to having one but I don't see having a belt over a chain as a gain.

Really helpful video. If I'm not changing the cam seal, does the cam pulley still need to come off to remove the water pump? It's hard to tell, but it looks low enough that it wouldn't interfere.

@@JamaalNoland yes have done 2 different 2.0 kia souls now. Both 2010s, one auto and one manual. The video was great for accomplishing this job for an amateur like myself.

why did you replace the cam seal? Is it a wear item with the same interval?

Does the timing belt get adjusted for tension?

Is this the same for a 2011 Sorento?

Take off the valve cover and the cam has a 1 and 1/16 hex area to hold the cam for the pulley removal. I dont have that remover or installer. But dont use axle grease on the seal, use diaelectrical grease on the seal.

Is it recommended to replace the water pump when replacing the timing belt on the 2011 Kia Soul 2.0 L ?

Do you want to do this again when the water pump starts to leak, like after 10k miles?

I used gates. Set tension. Spun it. Sometimes tensioner indicator is centered and sometimes not. Is that acceptable?

What did he do wrong

I just replaced the crankshaft sensor and the 2 camshaft sensor, but my 2012 Kia soul won't start. Codes p0017 and Po340 still coming on my scanner. Can you please help me.thanks

Oh look it's the same 2.0 beta engine from my 2007 Elantra. Except mine has electric power steering. How come you didn't change the crank seal?

What if you tinning belt bust and your marks are not aligned the red mark and pulley mark

How many miles or was this belt being changed per maint. schedule? Was there damage to the belt as I suspect it had many more miles of life left. Got 130K on my 2010 sport so well overdue per schedule.

You can crack crankshaft bolt by bracing a breaker bar in suspension and crank engine over by barely turning key.

Interference or non interference? I have a 2013 Kia Soul 1.6L can find much info

How easy is it to work on KIA's vs a Honda... As someone who has worked on every single honda I have ever owned. I'll tell you that KIA's are extremely hard to work on. You have to remove the top of the engine, just to change the spark plugs.. It is a 3 hour job and a mech charges $400 for the job. To replace spark plugs on a Honda Accord takes about 10 minutes and costs about $30 doing it yourself with the best spark plugs you can buy. What a huge difference. We have a 2011 Kia Sorento and I'll never buy one again... Plus, the resale value for these KIA's is horrible. Honda holds its value. My 2003 Accord with 181K miles is worth more than our 2011 Kia Sorento with only 124k miles.. With is crazy considering the KIA Sorento has more room, two moon rooms, GPS/NAV/ Leather Seats, Prem System, Tow Package, Bike Rack, etc.... and Carmax today offered us $5000 for it. LOL...

Why would they make an engine that could die unless you change the belt every 40k miles??

Very simple remove the 4 bolts on the engine mount remove the engine mount put a jack on the very very corner of the oil pan so you dont puncture and there you go be cautious as you could pop out a axle if you go to high

Good video. I would drain the coolant first by the lower radiator hose, instead of leaking it all over by the water pump. Coolant needs to be refreshed anyway. Horrendous design job with those drive belt tensioners, boatload of hard to access bolts, I guess Kia didn't want to spend money on automatic, spring loaded ones, like Hyundai has on Sonata engines.

My timing belt tends to travel all the way to the back of the cam pully

All new cars are interference engines, due to higher compression ration, fuel efficient.

Daaaaaaamn, this is completely different than the 2012 Forte 2.0, which uses a timing chain, and has a whole different intake setup etc.! Glad I don't have to mess with this stupidity!!
