Kia K5 LXS POV Test Drive Impressions (binaural audio)

Beyond the Test Drive - IG beyondthetestdrive (Cars, Cameras, Coffee, .........and The Drive!)
Welcome to Beyond the Test Drive's first ever video, Part 1 of a 2 part week long experience with the excellent Kia K5. The K5 was quite the surprise and has given the much maligned midsize mass market segment a much needed 'shot in the arm'. Binaural sound and POV format, so grab those headphones. The 1.6 turbo and transmission combo makes for a peppy and playful sedan that has much more personality than the Camry and Accord rivals. And it is so much better to drive than any of the mass market CUVs out there.....well, except maybe that CX5 with the turbo!
00:00 Introduction
01:30 Exterior and Engine
03:35 Interior Thoughts
06:07 Street Drive and Thoughts on Features and Trim Levels
09:20 Driving Impressions (on and off highway)
13:02 Final Thoughts and On to Part II (Joshua Tree National Park)
Part II takes the K5 out on a road trip to the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park, so check that one out if posted or look for it soon.
BTTD believes a car is more than its numbers and more or less than the sum of its parts. An alternative to the typical performance, features, and repeat marketing blitz, BTTD explores daily life with cars and explores that all important question.....is is fun to drive, and is it fun, or a major pain, to live with?
We start out by buying our very own Volkswagens, trading in years of loyal devotion to the Honda and Toyota reliability stalwarts, to find out if the VWs are really that bad and fall apart? Or do they really deserve their passionate following? Join us on this great big experiment as we attempt to find out and pursue our zeal for cars, cameras, coffee, and a great drive.
But first the K5, a car we think deserves our accolades made public. When a manufacture steps up and delivers, we think they should get a shout out.

    Great review! For over 2 decades, my household only have had Honda products. When my twins graduated high school we were going to go buy 2 civics. However on our way to the dealer we saw the K5. And it was literally glowing down the highway. My twins said STOP the car! Let’s goto Kia. My husband and I were a bit on edge but if that’s what they wanted, my husband and I was going to get it. Our promise to them were to finish high school and get accepted into the college of their choice. So we had to live up to our promise of buying them new cars. To make a very long story shorter... we now have 3, K5s in our driveway and 1 telluride. My husband and I both traded our accords in. I’m so very happy we made that switch. Although the telluride is mine, I often whip the k5 around town. The car is wonderful on gas. The Bose sound system has a great level of bass and surround sound. The only problem is explaining to people that it’s a Kia. I am not sure if you’ve played around in the settings but you can select and build your own custom drive mode. You can select the steering that best fits you. When in normal or smart drive mode the wheel is soft. You don’t feel it gripping the road. I keep my engine on smart to save gas but for my steering I have it on high sport. The wheel feedback will be tight and hitting corners will leave you feeling in more control as the driver. This machine was built to satisfy without a doubt. My mailman came to my doorstep to ask about the car. I just can’t believe the amount of questions people ask. We’ve never had that happen with the accord. Accords... Honda in general is a fantastic car. I think Kia is making its very own lane. The warranty is a no brainer. And with 2 kids that like to drive and will be in college soon the last thing they will need are hefty car repairs. The dealer gave us an additional s 50k miles. So it’s 100k bumper to bumper instead of the 50k bumper to bumper. And 150k miles for engine and transmission, instead of the traditional 100k miles. Plus we got Kia protect on the wheels, scratch and dent protection, and window with windshield protect. My favorite feature is the driver assistance. If you turn that on with cruise control you can let the car drive itself. It will send an alert every so often to make sure you’re paying attention. I had no idea this comment was so long. My apologies but we all love our cars so we don’t mind talking about them. 😂 😂 😂 ❤️ 🚘

    I have a Kia k5 gt line awd and I have to say How I’m impressed. You will always have those people that talk down on kias. I had a 2016 Kia Forte lx and I’ve managed to put 90,000 miles on it before I got my k5. My mother now drives it and it’s at 100,000 miles no issues just oil changes. She also had a Kia spectra that lasted her over 14 years until it went out.

    I bought a K5 gt line with premium package. Its a great car, agree with your review. Yes, I have a leather wrapped steering wheel! And panoramic sun roof, Lol. I live in Southern California so no need for all wheel drive. I am going to be 62 in july. I have always been a car lover. And appreciate a good performing and good looking car. And getting older hasn't changed that in me! I did get Red, so I'll have to watch out for cops!! 😊

    Love your presentation. Let me defend the 16 inch wheels. The taller sidewalls give a smoother ride. And when it's time for replacement some premium tires will be less expensive than 18 inch or larger.

    Thanks for watching and the comment. You make some very good points people should consider. The smaller tires definitely help with road noise, which I think I comment on part 2. Also, replacement costs and probably tread life is better in the smaller tires. People should consider this. I do like the 16 inch gun metal wheels better than any of the higher trim fancier ones. Again thanks for watching.

    Yea. Working on that. My favorite review thus far is the one by savagegeese. Pretty favorable. Also The Topher does a great POV review. I have seen a few in the wild and it really does look great but blends into the background. The hatch is the one to get in my opinion as they have addressed some of the issues with the rear end and fake air vents the old model suffered from. Hard to beat a Civic but it does have the cvt and Honda is back to pushing their older naturally aspirated four…which is 🤔.

  • @rhyde

    @rhyde

    @@BeyondTheTestDrive The Hatch looks great! I’m really debating between the Hatch, a good ol Corolla SE, and even the Toyota Corolla Cross. I do Uber so I’m wanting something that would be an all around good car for that, while also not trying to break the bank. What would you suggest? 23-25k on either of the Toyotas, or a little over 30k for the Civic Hatch?

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive

    @BeyondTheTestDrive

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@rhyde They are all great choices. If you are comparing similar performance and engine HP the Civic Sport Hatch starts around that 24k mark. If all around driving performance is the goal then the 30k sport with the 1.8 turbo is the one. But for Uber I am thinking a higher sitting crossover and that LE Corolla Cross is the sweet spot. I just think the regular Corolla is just too tight in the back seat for Uber and the Corolla Cross is just a couple of K more and MPGs are still great. One alternative to consider for solely Uber…don’t overlook a 2020 or later Kia Soul. Great room, ride height, MPGs, and more fun to drive then the regular Corolla. My main concern right now is buying anything with this crazy chip shortage. I advised a friend to get a Kia Soul and we finally found one but anything below sticker was off the table, which is crazy for a Kia. He loves his Soul though. The only choice I am not fond of on your list is the regular Corolla….it drives great, great MPGs, reliability, but still tight on interior room.

    You should do your homework before the video. The higher the aspect ratio, the more complaint the ride. 65 - 60 is what most car tires are today. (used to be 75 - 70) Many performance/sporty cars have a ratio of 35 - 40 with a recommended pressure of 40 -45 psi. They handle well but ride like they are filled with cement. Is this how you want to drive to CVS for a quart of milk?

    Your examples are not useful here, because the 18 inch low profile tires have a psi recommendation of 36. Far from the 40s your talking about. They ride very nice , and handle very good. Maybe you should do your homework 1st.

    Thanks for watching. I think in this video I point out the GT-line is extremely well equipped and the one to get if shopping K5. This was quite a while ago and the latest K5 comes with even more standard features. My only knocks on the base trim, if I recall, was that hard plastic steering wheel. I also groused about the lack of a wireless charger and adaptive cruise when wireless CarPlay and active lane centering were standard. A lot has changed in 3 years but the K5 remains a great value. Thanks again for watching and sharing your thoughts.
