    I have a 2024 CX-5. The wireless charger overheats my phone. The charger only works for 15 minutes or so then shuts off (green light turns red) or I get a warning on my phone that is is getting too hot. Not sure if it is just the wireless charger in my particular car or if all the 2024 CX-5's have the same issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10e with an Otterbox Commuter case. It charges fine wirelessly in my 2017 Camry with no shutting off or overheating at all.

    Will Toyota build a CC Prime?

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive10 сағат бұрын

    Thanks for watching. Great question. I think pricing could be the issue. And with the uptick in hybrid sales in general versus EVs and PHEVs not sure. My guess is yes if they can improve the overall materials and quality to justify the higher price. The CC is already viewed as a little too expensive given the features and interior. But probably a coin toss at this point. I am not sure of the take rate on the Prius prime. The hybrids are very efficient so the charging costs even at home need to be evaluated versus the 50 miles on a gallon of gas.

    Thanks for watching! This is fairly typical for today’s 2.0 turbos. Mercedes base model 2.0 are around 220 hp, BMW (this engine) has 255hp in the 330i. VW has 241 in their 2024 GTI. This 2.0 can easily take a tune and get it close to 300 hp. The problem with this is the torque on the manual clutch and getting the power down to through the small front wheels. But to your point, this can easily be more and Mini has detuned this slightly.

    Hybrids show total hp i.e. electric motor and gas motor. Is all of this hp available like the turbo version?

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive2 күн бұрын

    Thanks for watching and for the question. Not totally sure I understand your question though. As you state hybrids will show total combined horsepower, and it is all available. It’s harder to quantify at what engine rpm you get the total combined power. But hybrids are more about the electric motor’s torque assist which is nice at low gas engine speeds. Let me know if that helps.

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive4 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the question. That is quite the variety of vehicles each with its own unique set of pros and cons. None are really competition with each other and are targeted at different types of buyers. Some questions to consider: Are you buying used? Do you want to off-road, tow, or carry 7 passengers? Of these, ignoring price and fuel economy (even in diesel form) the Yukon is the most capable all around vehicle. The only real off-roader in this bunch is the Prada but it compromises on people hauling. The CX-90 is probably the most fun to drive in this bunch, gets decent fuel mileage and carry’s people very well but can’t tow like or do the heavy duty things the Yukon body on frame truck can do or do the off roading the Prada can do. If people hauling, low price, and some light AWD capability is important a used CX-9 is a good value. Reliability wise the Prada will always win. Thanks for watching and let me know if this helps narrow down your choices.

    I was dead set on a CX5 until I drove one. It was very well built and definitly more premium in terms of materials, but I just felt a little cramped in it. While on paper the CX5 has more cargo space, some of that Is unusable space lost to the bubble shape. The CX50 has a longer cargo area which is completely usable. No wheel wells getting in the way. I guess it all depends on what you value. If you're someone who's just looking for a nice reliable crossover the cx5 is the way to go, but I've got big dogs, long boards/snow boards, mountain bikes, etc that will all fit in the cx50 mich easier than they would fit in the cx5.

    Since I've owned a 2016 GTI SE (with Fender) and a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch (Bose) back to back I feel like I can chime in here. VW should have never moved away from the Fender stereo system as it was much closer to the Mazda Bose. I do agree the Beats isn't a bad system by any means, (a coworker has a 2020 GLI) but not only isn't as good as Mazda's Bose, but also a step down from the Fender. I can honestly say the Bose system in my Mazda is the best stock system in any car I've ever owned, and that includes the previous VW Fender and ELS system on a 2012 Acura TSX. In fact I've heard some really high end systems on some luxury cars (don't remember what system at the moment) that wasn't any better than the Bose on my Mazda 3. There are some high end car audio systems with more bass and more volume before distortion, but for normal listening levels the Bose in the newer Mazda's are hard to beat. (No pun intended😂)

    Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I did hear the Fender in a friends GTI and it is excellent. The Beats system was alot of marketing but I did enjoy it when we owned the car. I have a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta SE 1.8L TSI with 126,600+ miles on it currently and love it! It’s a great car and I was thinking about getting either a Mazda 3 sedan turbo or CX-5 Turbo or look into some BMWs within my budget. Do you feel like the Mazda is better than a BMW? Or would I enjoy a BMW (2, 3 or 4 series) more? Not sure myself since they both have features and power that I would like so I would have to make that decision in the next year or two once I’m ready to upgrade my car again. My first car was a 2000 Chevy Impala LS 3.8L and it was torquey but old, rusted underneath, and needed repairs that I didn’t think were worth fixing compared to its low value.

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive6 күн бұрын

    Awesome question. Thanks for watching. 🤔. I am going to assume your budget is in the mid to upper 30s so new Mazdas versus used BMWs. Let just skip the 228 Grand Coupe. I think it’s got a bad rap as far as overall reviews and it’s not a bad driving car, it’s just the exterior styling and general vibe is just not what you are getting a BMW for. So for shear driving joy (space, quietness, responsiveness, RWD handling, luxury vibe) I really like the 2-3 year old 330i. It is a little stodgy but just hard to beat. I do think the 3 overall is more fun to drive tossable, and youthful. And the AWD is standard and excellent. Good buys on used 330s are out there but an extended warranty is a necessity so that will add to the costs. So dollars being equal I would choose between the 3 sedan and 330i and consider the higher maintenance and insurance the BMW would bring. An equivalent 4 is going to be more money. If you are really considering a small SUV then it’s the CX-5 all the way. Not much BMW wise in that budget range that’s worth recommending. Also consider the CX-50. And since you mention an SUV and sedans together a great fit could be the CX-30 Turbo. Way more practical than the sedan and sits a smidge higher. And it is quite the endearing vehicle. My only issue is that you need a darker colors to go with the tons of cladding and the small fuel tank is frustrating. Fuel wise the 330i will also beat the 3 and cx-30 but premium is required. For daily driving and worry free fun I really like the Mazda turbos. If long range travel and a more mature look and luxury and quiet feel then a used 330 is a good go to. Hope this helps. Now in a year or two there could be some new offerings from Mazda and today’s 2024 BMWs will be coming off lease. And another thing to consider if you are financing is new versus used car interest rates. That can be a dramatic difference.

The gloss black exterior doesn't look like it will stand up to bug stains and debris marks. The interior looks like it will mark easily in normal use. Any exterior flat black I have owned discolors easily and is almost impossible to restore.. Oh for the old days when some actual chrome was used.

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive

    Thanks for watching! Not a fan of interior gloss black. It is either showing dirt or getting scratched up. Exterior wise, if it’s minimal it might be ok. Can anyone explain why the CX-50 doesn't have independent rear suspension?

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive9 күн бұрын

    The CX-50, CX-30, and the 3 all share the Small Product Group platform which has a torsion beam rear. There is a huge debate on whether this was for cost cutting, or as Mazda claims, the torsion beam dynamics better match the overall characteristics they were shooting for which is less body motions and a quieter cabin due to less parts. The truth is probably in between. I would agree the torsion beam should be quieter as there are less joints and parts but impacts can be harsher than with an independent rear suspension. For most folks the type of rear suspension should not be a deal breaker as Mazda has done a good job with overall handling and ride comfort. Another reason is packaging and space. As this platform is fairly small and also must accommodate all wheel drive the torsion beam takes up less space and is lighter. Again, Mazda probably could have accommodated an independent suspension if really pressed. So cost was probably the main driver but overall, Mazda has received high marks on how this platform handles.

    Serious question - for a buyer, what value will this bring against Hyundai Santa Fe and or a top-of-the-line mini-van model other than it's a Luxury brand?

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive
    @BeyondTheTestDrive9 күн бұрын

    Thanks for watching and for the good question. The new Santa Fe is pretty good and probably as well equipped as the TX. Hyundai always provides good value as far as features are concerned. Not sure luxury brands provide value but Lexus does provide reliability and better value than say BMW or Mercedes. And luxury brands usually provide a better driving experience and more powerful engines. This Lexus is larger and more quiet and brand badge means a lot to some people. If one is not stretching their budget then of course the Lexus is just a more solid and better driving car. The TX350, which can be had in the low to mid-60s, is a little closer to compare against the Santa Fe, but probably has less features. Toyota’s version of the TX, the Grand Highlander, is more of a direct competitor to the Santa Fe and is quite good. Lexus provides higher quality materials, and more sound deadening and also has better reported dealer service. One area of concern I have with the Santa Fe is the dual clutch transmission. The hybrid option is pretty intriguing. So yes, the Lexus is just better in many ways but is it worth the extra money? That’s a tough one. But the Lexus will hold its value better and longer term will prove more stout. While I am a Hyundai and Kia fan, they do change their cutting edge styling quite often so long term graceful aging is a concern. Lexus is fairly conservative styling wise so they age quite well. Against a minivan? For people hauling and practicality they provide the best value. And they even come in all wheel drive but if you need to tow then an SUV is usually better. I always advise people to buy as much car as their budget comfortably allows while thinking long term, and they will always be satisfied. I would spring for the Lexus any day over a Hyundai, and many other brands, if it fits the budget.
