2024 Mazda CX-5 TURBO Review | Aging Like a Fine Wine

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Sure the CX-5 is way overdue for a redesign but does it really need it? The brand spanking new CX-50 shares its drivetrains so it must be up to date in that department. Come along for a point of view drive with high quality binaural sound. Even though its design is a little long in the tooth, the CX-5 still competes with all the new shiny models from Honda, Toyota, and Kia. And the turbo makes this a terrifically fun car to drive.

Come along for a drive in Mazda’s CX-5 Turbo. Hi-quality binaural sound! Spent quality time in both the CX-5 and CX-50 turbo variants. Which one which one? While the CX-50 is newer and has a tad more interior room the CX-5 is maintaining its reign as Mazda’s sales champ. Keep an eye out for CX-50 coverage and some strong opinions on which one Beyond would get. Check out all of our content and consider subscribing. Would love to have you along for the ride!

Thanks for watching and for the very nice comment! Yea, I think we’ll see something in that time frame from Mazda. But it could be a CX-50 hybrid first. The CX-5 though is hard to beat. One thought is that it will get some type of overhaul based on the new CX-90 styling and parts bin. And a 4-cylinder mild hybrid. But that is pure speculation. Mazda is very coy about future products. We did do a CX-50 comparison vid so check that one out. All the best and happy motoring!

Mazda took an interesting path: instead of a full redesign they put alot of their ideas if a redesign into the cx50 and instead did incremental tweaks to the cx5, mostly on the exterior and in the engine. Since so many other automakers do redesigns that end up alienating their original fan base looking at you Honda this is a quite interesting way to do it and very much appreciated

Great insights and thoughts. Thanks for watching! Yea, the continual refreshes by Hyundai and Kia keep their designs fresh but they do not age well. At least Toyota and Honda’s conservative approach to redesigns age a little better. Thanks again and happy motoring.

Agreed. I love the CX5 so much. It absolutely holds up design wise, while more angular designs like the Rav and the Tucson already look dated.

I got a Mazda CX5 signature two months ago. The only thing I don’t like is that when you start it remotely, the cars shuts down as soon as you open the door. They say it’s a safety feature. This is a great review. It runs smoothly, and the Bose sound system is great.

Congrats on a great car! Thanks for watching and for the nice comment. Yes, the shutting off thing is a Mazda thing and frustrating. You’ll see me commenting on that in one of our long term 3 videos. Enjoy the Bose and happy motoring!

I test drove the CX-5 Signature and CX-50 GT Turbo earlier this month and ended up buying the CX-5. I found the build quality and interior finishes were more to my liking (more luxury-esque) plus I liked the slightly higher driving position. It was also $5000 (Canadian) less than the CX-50 all things being equal in terms of features.

Thanks for watching! Pricing is weird and does put the CX-50 at a disadvantage sales wise when its sibling is so good. It may be due to capacity at the Alabama plant as Mazda seems to be moving the CX-50s they are building. But yea, driving position is very good in the CX-5. Thanks for the nice comment and happy motoring!

Thanks for the great review. Our family loves Mazda's. I have a 2019 CX-5 Signature and my wife has a 2015 CX-5 Grand Touring. She also has a new 2024 CX-5 Signature on order. We prefer it to the CX-50 and love the features only available on it, like the 40/20/40 rear seats. It really competes with luxury brands costing $10-15,009 more. Love your video drive. Where are you located. It looks like a lot like Virginia, North Carolina or Tennessee. A beautiful spring morning with I Redbuds and Dogwoods in bloom and the rolling hills. Thanks again 😎

Thanks for watching and for the very nice comment. Our channel is a little heavy on Mazda content right now as we are also Mazda fans. They are not perfect and have their flaws but they do well for a smaller company. The CX-5 has single handedly kept Mazda alive in North America and is the reason we have cool things like the MX-5 Miata. Congrats on the new 2024. She’ll love the upgrades. Our drives take place in the rolling hills of central Maryland. Spring came early year. Thanks again and happy motoring.

I do prefer the exterior of the CX-50 but almost everything else is better on the 5. Firstly, it is built in Japan instead of USA so better build quality. Secondly, the CX-5 got a better rear suspension so it has better comfort and handling. In the Mazda3 you don’t see that much of a problem with it because the car is very small but in the CX-50 the limitations are very apparent. The only thing bad about the CX-5 is that it still has that old keyless entry even with the refresh while the 3 has the new one since 2019…

Thanks as always! Not sure it’s US build quality but maybe more design. The CX-5 has heavy thick doors and all the hardware is solid and heavy, much like the outgoing CX-9. In a couple weeks our CX-50 review will be out. It does actually handle a little flatter, but the steering verges on too heavy and it drives bigger, and maybe not as playful due to its torsion beam. It sits lower, but oddly enough, I found the CX-50 throttle tuning a little more responsive. Anyway, will get into all of that in a couple weeks. Thanks again.

I have a 2024 CX-5. The wireless charger overheats my phone. The charger only works for 15 minutes or so then shuts off (green light turns red) or I get a warning on my phone that is is getting too hot. Not sure if it is just the wireless charger in my particular car or if all the 2024 CX-5's have the same issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10e with an Otterbox Commuter case. It charges fine wirelessly in my 2017 Camry with no shutting off or overheating at all.

A famous old Malaysian rally driver took it up and down Genting mountain on KZread , he drove real hard tires screamed , he said the manual paddles were the only way to go , he tried auto and switched back to manual .....you complained about the piano black , while scratching the piano black ...just thought that was ironic.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I can see using the paddle shifters for real aggressive driving. I don’t think tapping is the same as scratching. So maybe I am misunderstanding your comment. We own a Mazda with the same console and we have not found a single owner who likes the piano black other than it looks nice when new and clean. It will get scratched by giving it a dirty look.

  • @BeyondTheTestDrive

    @BeyondTheTestDrive

Thanks for watching and commenting. The 2.5 Turbo is not known for its turbo lag. Torque peak is at around 1700 rpm. Of course flooring it will always reveal a little delay in turbo spin up. The twin scroll and dynamic pressure turbos have come along way in minimizing lag across all manufacturers.
