Im not ATC, but do deal with emergency service radios. Kenedy Steve pretty much has made me through my radio traffic and phone calls. "Im not going to make your problem mine" is a new one. Ive this when a unit calls in but cuts out their identification number (i do know their voices but thats beside the point). Breaks up the monotony of "recieved, go ahead, unit call in". Entertainment. Especially when you can guid an officer without and give landmarks freaking them out.

There was another one where the pilot transmitted "Kennedy Ground" and Steve responded "Yes, Kennedy Plane?" Classic.

@H89SA Are you actually Kennedy Steve? How could you possibly tell what he was saying?!! Even that tug guy sounded more clear 🤣
you can really notice once the coast gets clear and he starts cracking jokes again
"That's SO unimportant right now." SMACK!!!
I remember working the tower one day and the GA runway had a string of arrivals lined up and I couldn't get anyone out for a few minutes. At the same time a bunch of departures wanted to go. I told everyone to standby and I'd get back to them in a minute or two. I got things cleaned up and asked who was #1 at the runway. No body answered so I said someone had to be #1... A Cessna said they were #1 so I told him to taxi into position and hold. He came back and said he couldn't get around the Citation in front of him. I said we'll then I guess you're not #1 are you and his reply was.... Well no one else answered so I figured I would! 🙄🙄

@jeffreysdavis

there's different stations. Ground is managing the movement to and from the runways, but another ATC is strictly clearing for departures, and yet another for arrivals. When they get backed up it's probably just easier to communicate with the pilots who each know their position, than to ask another ATC to find that one plane out of the dozen or so on their list every time

The JetBlue pilots are uniformly professional. JFK major hub and HQ. The absolute worst is Turkish. Steve picks them clean. Even more so than Air China and Aeroflot.
You can tell when KS got swamped, he stopped joking around and tried moving traffic quickly, but still found time to mess with some of the Tugs lol. Great videos, and we appreciate your work H89SA

In the interview he did with Captain Joe he said tugs are are the bottom of his list of importance lol😂
"The ramp said they want us to move out." "That's nice. I really don't care what the ramp wants to do." Rare moment that KS could make the ramp's life miserable, for a change. Rather than the other way around most days.
I've no real interest in aviation other than flying to my holiday destination. However I discovered Kennedy Steve by accident. He is a classic man. Hats off to the ATCs and pilots. These men and women are amazing.
Just casually doing some jokes where anybody else would struggle to get anything moving... what a legend!
Steve speaks clearly and not too quickly. He was one of the few controllers i could easily understand even though I am German. Thank you, Steve!
I have always loved listening to Kennedy Steve but of all his great comments the one I love most is his response to "Ground?", "Plane?". LOVE it.

7:52 Yes, exactly what I wanted xD Also the "Ground?" "Yes, plane?" Was hilarious
I would love to sit a shift with this guy. I've sat in towers before and really learned a lot, but this has to be one of the most situationally aware human beings I have ever heard on the radio. The guy is a freaking genius - and he has a sense of humor, something the FAA is not known for. The vids are wonderful ways to let down my stress of the day. Thanks!
I've only just begun watching these series of ATC with Steve, and I can't help but laugh at the snark he's constantly... CONSTANTLY showing the ground tugs! SUCH SNARK! xDD
I just pulled up a map of JFK airport and taxiways to get an idea of how and where each plane gets in line. This had to be something that evolved and wasn't planned. It's an insane layout for a busy airport.
It's like listening to a Bach sonata. Bravo Maestro, bravo!
GROUND? YES PLANE? Lmaoooooo I’m dead af.😂😂😂

Sometimes when you fly they let you listen to the traffic radio. At JFK I would want to listen in to the ground frequency just to hear this guy. Friggin awesome.
God, I love this dude. He's like the Don Rickles of ATC
I'm dying the way he talked to the tugs.
KS is doing one of the most demanding job in the world ,but he almost makes us forget how stressfull it must be . :)
One of these days God is going to bless use all with a tug with a hot mic after Steve blows them up!!!!
I've been listening to these videos pretty much non-stop for the past day and a half, and while an inside look is always a learning experience, this explains so much about the why and how delays happen that I couldn't even be annoyed the next time I have to sit on the tarmac for a spell.
Love the mimicking the tug at the end! Nicely done Steve.

My father used to be an air traffic controller in the military. I remember a couple different times him being able to take us up to the top of the tower and watch the airplanes come in-and-out. What an amazing feeling it must be to be able to organize such a mass of craziness that can come in at 1 time . unfortunately Due to the fact that my father had been a crew chief prior to going to air traffic controller school. the towers Were unfortunately a badd choice because my dad's hearing loss from being a crew chief on AC130 made it impossible for him to be able to hear the calls coming in from the Aircraft. I know that was one of his favorite jobs was making sure that everybody got in safe. He was very disappointed that he had to choose a different career until he was too retire, 5 years later at 20 years of service. Unfortunately due to my dad's exposure to agent orange in Vietnam, my dad suffered 3 strokes back to back. He's 74 years old now and only has a few memories left since he developed early stages of alzheimers detected last summer. Here had gotten lost on the way too the grocery store. He is an amazing veteran and is just trying to survive. He's blessed to have my sister to look after him these days. Hopefully Steve you won't have to worry about those things interfering in you're life. Take care God's best to you. Deb
I am a CTC Tower Operator for KCS. I always tell people I am a ATC for trains. Steve is my idol and who I always wanna be at work. Unfortunately, any ass hat with a pulse can be a railroad engineer and so it is like talking to a 2x4 and expecting it to become plywood.
Hahaha, this man 🤣🙏 More of him please .. Have seen the most, just love the woice 🤣 so funny.. Greetings and love from Sweden ❤❤
Idk if i'm just tired because its 4am but that made me laugh more than it should have. Ground? Yes, Plane? 😂😂😂
Happy Monday !! Lmao !! With all your videos, Kennedy Steve will always be an aviation legend.... You'll never find another one one...... Also, he still needs a wiki page...... :) Stay safe, stay warm, fly safe and be well !! :)

I know this is a couple of years old but I just had to comment. Listening to Steve call out for those wishing to taxi reminded me of being in a New York deli at lunch time. They aren't responsible for keeping things on schedule so I doubt they care. I feel bad for the regular tugs that don't have an enclosed driver's seat. I know that nowadays a lot of them do, and maybe they're all like that now at airports in the north like JFK, but I do know that non-enclosed ones are still used at airports in the south with warmer climates. If the weather's calm and warm obviously there's no issue but on days when it's raining... that has to suck.

I'm literally howling with laughter lol, "Well why don't you stay there and wait til you get your numbers and call me back, how's that?" 😂😂😂
I've been listening to these for a while now, i'm curious what Steve's work station looks like while he was working.
And here I am in April of 2024, literally laughing out loud at Steve's antics that would probably get any other controller disciplined. Thing is, we pilots "get" it, but non-aviators would probably not understand 1% of what makes Steve such a legend. To them it would surely sound like rapid-fire gibberish. I'm sure that if my family ever walked into the room and overheard Steve, and heard/saw me laughing at the things he was doing, they'd go, "Dang, Bob's really gone off the deep end now. Time to call Shady Pines!" God, I miss Steve.

I think what really sells “Yes, plane?” is how chipper he is about it.
The way he makes fun of the tugs is so damn hilarious, he is exactly like me hahaha
I appreciate how he likes to mess with the TUGS lol
"Ground?" "Yes plane?"
He always trolled the tugs. Lololol.
I've listened to and/or seen a bunch of these, but this is probably the funniest so far!
Steve and his tug drivers. LOL. Thanks - Lumpy
Now that was an awesome gift for hanging in until the end. I just kept double tapping on the left and laughing.
I always loved him messing with the tugs feedback
You just gotta love when he trolls the tug drivers. :-) The one with the overly excited Delta Tug where Steve replies in the same hectic manner is pure gold, too (watch?v=FbqMqtzvv-g). :-)
I have absolutely no idea what any of these guys are saying, but it's certainly interesting to listen to. I didn't realise there was so much work just to get planes to move around the port, let alone get them into the air. I'll definitely keep it in mind next time I fly and there are a few delays 👌
@martintheiss743
5 жыл бұрын
complex equation. this guy just did monitoring of planes on taxi or gate service. essentially the main job is to push planes through the various stopping points like a radio stop signal and not to jam the system by telling enough planes at once to push off or start engines to be either expensive or congested or both.
@7:13 "Ground?" "Yes Plane!?" Gets me every time. LOL.
