Kenmore washer won’t start the cycle and you need to tape the door to get the washer running. That is exactly the situation we have found at one of our clients' laundry room - Kenmore washer doesn’t start the cycle when you press Start button. This issue when the washing machine doesn’t start the cycle but if you push the door harder or just hold it it will go as normal is very typical for any washer.
The root cause of the issue when the washer won’t start the cycle is the door lock. The door lock failure is caused by putting constant pressure on the door by opening it and closing it.
So it is just a matter of time when the door lock is going to fail. If you are gentle with the washer’s door the door lock may last 8-10 or even 15 years. But if you slam the door every time the door lock will last 5-7 years or even less.
So if your washer won’t start the cycle but will go normal when you push the door it is door lock failure and washer door lock repair is required. Or in most cases washer door lock replacement is needed.

Front door loaded washer will not unlock
I just replace my door latch lock with a brand new one and it’s doing the same thing the old one did. Washer will not lock to run the cycle

The lock on my Kenmore washer broke and won't go past the wash cycle. Is there anyway to fix it.

Yes, we do come to the people houses. The appliances are too big and too heavy to move them around. If you want to find the part just google appliance repair parts store in your area, give them a call and have the model number of the appliance handy. They should be able to find the right part for you. Or you can try ordering that online again based on the model number of the appliance.
Maybe I missed it, but to me it's not clear what the symptom was. Did the door not lock shut so it wouldn't start? Or did the door lock shut but the washer thought it was still open?

The washer wouldn't run the cycle because it thought the door wasn't locked.
I replaced my door lock and after doing so it still will not lock and run a cycle. What else can I try? I have unplugged all connections on main boars and still nothing....please help!

Or a new fuse which is soldered into the main panel. 😬
