WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

All I'm saying is that in real life, theists tell us to keep our atheism to ourselves out there in the real world but will gladly shove their religion down our throat. They're being hypocritical.

Atheist Penn Jillette has no respect for Christians who do not share their faith. How monstrous, how cold-hearted do you have to be not to warn someone of eternal hell and to share that there is eternal life through the Cross of Christ? I hope you will not take offence at this post, but all those who do not make things right with Christ will have an eternity to lament about it. It is my neighborly duty to warn you! I hope that you will be open to Jesus. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Ever hear the phrase, "Noboy's perfect"? Those two words hold the key to the secret to life: there is a moral law that no one lives up to. Yet, any law broken produces consequences. There is an afterlife where all wickedness will be judged. Is that a threat? How about: if you are a good person, you have nothing to worry about? However, if you have lied and stolen, you should be tried as a lying thief. The Cross is our only hope. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Where do you deserve to spend eternity? Frankly, I am glad that there are no lying thieves in heaven. Should I have to lock my heavenly mansion? Will there be lying politicians in heaven? You can argue hell until you are blue in the face, but you are not fit for a perfect heaven. Do you agree or do you consider yourself to be a morally perfect person? Where do you deserve to go? The interesting exception to the point Slavic made is that you're bound to be in a position where you choose to harm a sentient being in order to prevent hundreds or thousands of sentient beings from being harmed. Such as if someone had a chance to murder Adolf Hitler, for example, before he started his rampage. "Avoiding harming sentient beings" is really not a thing.

Place a group of ten people and ask them about their morals, most likely they will not come to a consensus on everything. Why? Because morality is subjective. It's why we see humans exhibiting differing moral values across the world.

@@SleepyMatt-zzz There's variation in all traits, but an optimum for every trait. That is why, while our morals are different, they are clumped around certain values. The subjectivity comes from the environmental and population conditions at the time they evolved. Religion prevents the evolution of morals based on environmental conditions.

There can never be objective morality because it's always a CHOICE! If you decide that you doin't want to cause harm, that's still subjective, thus no objective morality. Just because some people want objective morality to exist, that doesn't mean that it does. Kelley is also wrong, since you still have to go with your own personal interpretation of actions. That makes it all subjective. No matter what subjective standard you start with, there is nothing demonstrably objective that you can draw from it since you are the one that is deciding what you are going to do and what you think causes "harm". There is nothing objective there at all.

Yeeeeeh, “harm” is a bit too subjective of a standard because the word is a little bit liquid in English. “Wellbeing” or “happiness” are better because everyone who speaks English well knows exactly what those words mean. Although that does make me think, what about other languages where the best translation of those words might also be a little too ambiguous? Are they supposed to use a totally different standard? That strikes me as a bit ridiculous.
