Kawasaki ZZR 1100 (ZX 11) Who says you can't flick them through the bends! Tagaytay to Kaybiang

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Just about as much fun as its possible to have on two wheels. Endless bends, great weather, a little bit of danger to sharpen the senses and of course the glorious 1100 engine providing a concert! I am still smiling hours later. Very bumpy road just added to the fun. Blew the right hand fork seal but hey, it was worth it. Kaybiang Tunnel to Tagaytay. What an awesome place ride! Brings back memories of riding the Tail of the Dragon in NC with my buddy back in the mid 2000's on my '05 CBR 600RR. My CBR 600 was sold many years ago. I recently was given a 1994 ZX-11D from a family friend. It of course needed a lot of work. The '94 engine in my bike had low compression in all cylinders. My mechanic installed a used 1999 ZX11D engine with only 11K miles. Now it is one incredibly fast & humbling bike for me & I love riding it. It is the fastest motorcycle I have ever owned and is an incredibly powerful machine as you know very well. I intend to keep it for the rest of my life and leave it to my son one day.

    I used to wear away the inside of my gloves at the thumps from using so much opposite lock chucking mine about in the twisties roads here in Wales. She’s a big bus and the rear shocks fail, but by fk do they go and the torque makes 3k rpm power wheelies in first a doddle.😬👍

    Hi mate, with a Hyperpro rear shock, matching progressive front springs and the concentric adjusters rotated 180 it requires little effort to swing her about. In standard setup they can be slow turning indeed but I have had this setup on my 11's since the first one back in 95 and it allows you to really enjoy the bends.

    The way you chuck the old girl through the bends is pretty crazy. I just haven’t got the skills yet, to do it like you. I spend half my time looking at the crap on the roads. I just can’t seem to throw it around like you. I think my technique is out. I flipped the adjusters and noticed the difference, it’s more willing to change direction. I’ve had the odd moment of greatness though. I had a race with a young’n in his souped up car the other day. Well, let’s just say he probably looked at my old bike with contempt but when he started to overtake me at 90, I opened the taps and he might as well got off and had a cup of tea 👍🏼

    Nice little blat, man you guys have alot of side cars (unicorns here) and not sure if they were bikes with trailers or bike/car kinda things, never see those here, but that road was pretty cool, don't know if you've been to nz but we got roads like that that go for ages before you'll go through a village or town, and then we got some stuff that would blow your mind, if you ever ride here, make sure you go over the Rimutaka's, twisty like you might have never seen, its a hill so rock face on one side, big drop on the other, beautiful scenery, definitely not the best scenery in nz, but probably the most technical bit of main highway we have, but only 1 bit of many, you would love it, we have every kind of landscape to ride through or over, from desert to mountain ranges, coastal roads, definitely put it on your bucket list if you haven't been already mate.

    Nice video! You're just like me on mine! I can't put up a video of my riding as it will draw the wrong kind of attention! I have sooo many different types of roads to play on it's ridiculous! I was watching your gear changing, revs and pace etc. My favourite roads (corners) are third and fourth gear redline to hard braking sections then trailbrake in knee down and coax her out and tuck in then repeat for several miles with little traffic with some 5th gear flat out straights every now and then. I don't like 6th flat out as sheep 🐑 tend to come into play sometimes....!

    Thanks for the comment mate. It is a good road but there is always a high possibility of coming across snakes, cows, dogs, rockfalls, big lizards, very slow moving traffic, rice drying on the road and steep drops with no guardrails etc. If you have an accident you are likely to wait hours for an ambulance. That makes it even more exciting but the repercussions of "getting it wrong" cause one to leave a little bit spare. Saying that, the ZZR covers that road as quick as anything else and surprises many of the more modern sports riders. Long Live the ZZR. Ride Fast :-)

    @@MichaelZZRrider I was watching in trepidation at sooo many potential hazards in this video and could easily tell why you were doing what you were doing. Takes intelligence to see intelligence 👌I also truly considered your overall pace of travel and you can see that when you go past everything. Full chat would kill you for sure but i very much doubt anyone could make this kind of progress any quicker given the road hazards! You can see the landscape changing all the time and see quite clearly that you're making a fair head of steam there. I was craving more coastline/sea views hoping you'd pass a little bay or inlet at some stage. I reckon you probably have the scenery for that! You should do video of the ZZR just cruising slowly in those blue skies and an ocean/beach/cliffs panoramic type video. We need that warmth to look forward to here in Scotland/England/Wales especially as our winters are so long, dark and cold! 18 degrees and some sun here today so my Road 5's are away to lose a quarter of their life around whisky country! Mine’s still out of action but while I’ve been doing some repairs I flipped the rear wheel adjusters, I’ll see how it goes... Underneath the fairing it’s almost like new now after replacing the rads and all the rusty bits. I’ll put it all back together now ready for the spring then next step is to do, carb clean and check, tappet setup then, take the swing arm off and tidy it all up. I might invest in a better rear shock or upgrade the suspension front and back, any recommendations? Cheers

  • @MichaelZZRrider

    @MichaelZZRrider

    Hi mate, sounds like everything is going well. The biggest single thing you can do to improve handling is the concentric adjusters. The rear shock really depends on what you want to spend. You know that one can spend a fortune on shocks that, in my opinion, are not worth it on the ZZR. I fitted progressive fork springs and a rear shock from Hyperpro. They are matched to my weight and riding style and are reasonably priced. I did the same thing on both the ZZR's I have owned. Those 3 things have made the bike much more of a sport than a tourer and I can hang with dedicated sports bike easily, I just have to work a little harder. Even though it is more sporty it maintains its high speed straight line stability which is great.

    @@MichaelZZRrider it’s just when I get on the floor and look up I see a shitty old corroded shock. I either take the old one out and make it look good or I just replace it 🤔. Hey, what is the brand of that digital speedometer you're using?

  • @MichaelZZRrider

    @MichaelZZRrider

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi, it is not a speedo, it is a volt meter. They are very important for older bikes here in the Philippines. The law here requires that bikes have their headlights on at all times and because of the heat the cooling fans are running constantly, particularly in traffic. This put a huge drain on the battery and if the voltage drops even a small amount the fan speed slows a little which causes the bike to overheat. By fitting LED lights and also using the highest ampage Yuasa battery you can stop the battery drain and maintain the cooling fan effectiveness. The Volt meter allows me to check that the battery level is not dropping.
