Perfectly said. She could be a witch and be sympathetic. Sometimes you'd want to kick her in the rear end and other times you'd feel sorry for her. And there were times when she cracked me up! That's what made her so good. ☺

Both awesome in their own way. Both to always be treasured for they are true gems!!! They will always have relevance and will never go away. Can watch them over and over through the years. Classic characters, acting and writing. Cora Beth and Harriet added a lot to those shows for certain.

People disliked her as a real person because she was so good in character, its like umbridge in harry potter.

Katherine played her part so well, she became the character that people loved to hate but her humor was a ten out of ten. She never failed to make audience laugh. Those who knew her in real life characterized her as a very kind person.

One of the best was when she talked to Nancy at The Orphanage about Nellie and what a "Mean Girl" she was. One of the best behind the scenes stories was when Mrs. Oleson found out that Nellie Cheated on The School's Final Tests and she actually whipped Alison Arngrim (Nellie) and that's why Alison ran into The House. She didn't know it was going to be real. Harriett could give Angela Channing a run for her Money. Remember when she was so nasty in The Pilot Episode and I realized she owned 51% and Nels owned 49%. It was financed by her Papa because Nels got her in the Family Way. She was smart, she never allowed anyone to buy and have a large amount of Credit, the Books were balanced to a T. She could have given Ike Godsey & Corabeth from The Waltons a run for their Money on how to manage a Store. Ike was so much nicer.

Can we just agree that Katherine MacGregor was the perfect choice to play Mrs. Oleson? Much like Alison Arngrim as Nellie, she understood exactly who her character was (probably because she read all the Little House on the Prairie books and she created such a detailed history for her character) and she relished her role as the antagonist. I am giving this woman an Oscar because she absolutely deserves it.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but how was it racist? Ketty Lester and Moses Gunn were regulars and great actors. There was also a black physician Dr. Baker hired....Michael Landon used several episodes to illustrate the ignorance of racism. I still watch them occasionally.

Little House was one of the best shows on American television. There will never be another like it.

One of the best tv shows of all time, we watch every night at dinner with, my wife never seen the show so when i put it on she enjoyed it also my kids got into it as well, this show had great lessons in life and alot of laughing, also cry at some point, nothing comes close.

She really was one of the greatest actors on this show!!!!!

She was 93 when she died in 2018 at the Motion Picture and Television retirement home in Woodland Hills, Ca. Richard Bull (Mr. Olson) also died there in 2014 at the age of 89.

She played an amazing character. Such tenacity. Such boldness and sarcasm.

Katherine MacGregor is one of the best. As a kid I remember thinking how evil yet funny Mrs. Olsen was. A role that could only be pulled off by a genius actor.

I can't imagine little house without Katherine McGregor/ Mrs Olsen. She was such a great actress. The part where she says "walnut grove" so loudly that the man falls off the telephone pole, you got to admit, that was so funny! But even through her snobby attitude, she still had a heart. So glad she was on the show, because she was a great talent. I always enjoy little house episodes. Without Harriet, it definitely wouldn't be the same.

She was really the most talented actress/actor on the show.

All of us who watched Little House, were so very lucky to be able to tune in every week to see Mrs. MacGregor, and all the other talented actors, in this last of it's kind series! There will never be another Katherine MacGregor, so we will just have to cherish the amazing work she left behind for all of us!

I was blessed to have met Mr. Richard Bull a few times before his passing. He was a true gentleman, and most kind. I miss him.

Harriet was hilarious. We all.knew a mother like her. Thank you for making our lives better.

She played a villain who was also a regular on the show. that is not easy at all! She had to walk a fine line between making us despise her, while still viewing her as a human being. She pulled it off beautifully. Fantastic actress!

I'm glad that they run the reruns. I think on the Hallmark channel! I love it. I was born in June of 75; 9 months after the show aired for the first time. I wish TV shows were still this awesome! Did you see the one when Laura ran awag because her baby brother passed away and she blamed herself. The Halloween ones were great. Nelly was a piece of work lol; Nels and Harriets daughter. She was so mean. Did you watch the Pilot? The very 1st one? It was a 2 hr special. The series aired weekly on a regular basis after the pilot. Thanks for replying!

@lilly lazer Yes mam! It certainly was. I watched faithfully every evening at 5 PM on channel 11. I watched the reruns. I was born in 75 so the show was new! It was on the air for 9 months when I was born. When it ended for good in '82i was just about to turn 7. It ended in May of '82 and I turned 7 a month later in June! I love the stories. The family was so awesome. I would wish I had their family. I loved the little house they lived in. The girls slept upstairs in their cozy little bed. The show is 1 of the best family shows ever. A full hour too. I wonder myself if there are any talented writers out there in Hollywood who could capture us the way Little House did. I miss that era in television. Thanks.

@lilly lazer twerking at 9?? That is really destructive. I'm not sure what twerking is but I think it's a move that these youngsters do and mistake as dancing! Lol. It is the parents. The parents are really immature these days. Your husband must have been really disgusted. It's only going to get worse. We're in for a rude awakening in 20 yrs.

I would've LOVED if they had did an episode on Little House on how Nels and Harriet had met. :)

This is by far my favorite show. It’s so wholesome and nostalgic for me. I remember coming home from school everyday in my childhood home and looked forward to tuning into Little House on the Prairie. 💕

It was for the most part but that episode about Albert's girlfriend being molested by the guy in the mask terrified and disturbed me.

She was brilliant and helped to make this show as great as it was. Such talent!

She was amazing!!! She and Richard were perfect together!

Loves this Lady

She was wonderful. I loved her and Nels. My favorite show. Never missed an episode when it debuted in 1974. I’m 63 now and I still watch reruns. I dreamed of having three daughters. I had one son but he’s given me two terrific granddaughters so far.

David Haber, they were the let's say THE FUNNIEST power 🤣🔋 couple 👩🏻‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏻 of Walnut Grove, MN.

Mrs. Oleson was a pinch of pepper in the sweetness of the show. She made the series and should have been awarded at least 1 Emmy. RIP.

One of my all time favorite actresses! Streep, or any of those overrated Hollywood whiners do not hold a candle to,this woman! RIP to the greatest...

Mrs. Olsen. My favorite character on the show. She was hilarious!!

Gina Kaye. Oh, my favorite was Almonzo! I always fancied him and I remember as a kid, hoping Laura would end up with him!

She stole the limelight in every scene she was in. I just loved her.❤️👌🏻

You can't even image this show without her! She was just spectacular as an actress, she and Richard helped make this show want it is! I still watch it, it's a timeless well thought out good acting show!

Character humor of this type is enhanced by her shapely figure, pretty face and great hair... trying to defy her age made it even funnier. Mike Landon saw all of this.

Aww...it has brought back such good memories when I used to sit down in the mornings and watch my favorite show! I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen on the next episode...lol I remember crying when Charles and Laura would have a heart to heart talk, and how I wished my dad was like Charles in so many ways. Shoot even Caroline I wanted as my mom. I want to go back there again and again. I miss it so! I must have seen all the re-runs1000 times and willing to sit down and see them all again like it was my first time! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this together. 💗 💗 💗 💗

I loved this character so much. She played it brilliantly.

No one else could have played the part of Mrs Olsen any better than Katherine & the same as Alison Arngrim playing the part as Nellie. I loved watching Little House on the Prairie as a child & still to this day I watch it when I catch it on tv. It's a show that grabs your attention & you laugh & even cry when there's sad parts of the show. Little House on the Prairie was the best show on television when I was growing up. It's a classic! ❤️😀

Harriet Oleson was The Wicked Witch of Walnut Grove...no one could play her better than Katherine MacGregor. Great interview.

Yeah she wasnt a witch she certainly had a good heart, she was just snooty.

I loved watching this program when I was a kid. Now at 47 and I watch it with my own children who love it just as much as I did. There is hardly anything on TV anymore that is family oriented and that's really sad. Its nothing but reality shows that are straight trash.

I'm just a couple years younger, but couldn't agree more. Mostly, I watched after school on daytime tv reruns. This show made me cry and laugh many times over. They were storylines you never forgot, unlike today.

Omg... the telephone scene she's talking about around 5:46. I watched it for the first time just a couple days ago and I laughed so hard that my husband had to come check on me. I've been sick and nothing had made me laugh in the past week, but this scene almost killed me!!!!!! 🤣

Katherine Mac Gregor was devine playing Hariett Oleson. I loved her from the beginning! Her "Neeeels" was so funny.

I was born in East Germany in 1965. Watched the series in the 1970s. Also in the 1980s. In the 1990s with my child. We laughed and we cried. It was a wonderful time. I bow down and say thank you.

Man-I’m watching the HD version of Little House in 2020 and really was curious about the person behind Mrs. Olsen-and I am blown away by the sheer color of Katherine McGregor! She is a masterpiece just retelling the character she brought to life! What a funny lady! I bet she was the life of every party! ❤️ Little House was such good tv 📺 Good, wholesome entertainment!

I am a Japanese. I watch this show on NHK 4K every Wednesday. I am impressed every time with the story. I have known about her death recently. Rest In Peace, Katherine, praying from Japan.

I loved the supposed back story with her and the preacher that she was engaged to. You saw a gentler, vulnerable side to her.

Yes Dean Harmon in the épisode where rev alden fells in love ..so sad for Harriet and she is touching in this épisode.. actually she never forgot Dean Harmon and had resentment for him thats why she blames rev Alden..a moving épisode..

She so deserved the highest of honor for her role !! She was brilliant in this show !! Rest in Eternal Peace 🙏 U and so many others from the little house on the prairie will be truly missed !!

Priceless. Katherine was so incredible in the role.

BRILLIANT Actress! Being the extraordinarily gifted actress she is, I was always surprised that she stayed on with "Little House on the Prairie" for the entire run like she did. I'm surprised that she didn't instead leave the show, do a ton of films, and rack up a bunch of Oscar nominations or wins (she truthfully had the talent to do so). As a major fan of the show, I'm kind of glad she didn't leave, because she certainly was one of the best things about it. I mean, even if you hated her character (and I did), could you imagine that show without her... without Mrs. Oleson? The real deal as an actress, that's for sure.

She was the best. Such a great actress. She's my favorite part of watching the show even today

Even if you didn’t watch this show back in the day, Little House on the Prairie still takes you back.

I watched this show growing up n still watch it alot. I'll always love it n never tire of watching it!!❤💕

I'll throw in another brilliant performer in the mix who I think would do well playing opposite the performers you mentioned. My suggestion is Larry Linville. He, too, was terrific at playing the antagonist. Can you imagine him playing off either of Carroll O'Connor, Katherine MacGregor, or Bea Arthur? Wow.

Can I just tell you how much joy she brought my dad watching the re runs in his last days. She was his favorite and Nellie and Harriet are his two all time favorites.

My husband knew Scotty MacGregor for many years and she was a really professional actress. Personally, she was a great lady and kind to all the children and families in the church that we all attended.

Loved the show and its reruns for years, brilliant!!! The character where all well choosen for their parts Harriet manly for Mrs Olsen she nailed her Character brilliantly, that was the reason I watched the show her and her spolt daughter and the lngels family always came on top every time, great teachings as money isn't everything!
