She was the first celebrity I was able to fall completely in love with. Not only was she a extremely beautiful woman, but an insanely gifted artist. There's no guilt to be had in saying that you are completely captivated by her. It's more so a matter of having good tastes.

Interesting how she confirms "music is, yes, for sure" almost like ignoring the "show business" the interviewer was asking about. She is a true artist.

In life there are few moments that you see a genuine, innocent artist who's Yes means Yes and No means No. To have such person be gifted with such musical talent at such a young age and an angelic voice no less. Then, when she performs, you can't help but just listen and watch her as you slowly but certainly are drawn into her songs. She's unique but an acquired taste because she was the first of her kind in those days, later on we had her "off spring" in artists like Tori Amos and Bjork.

i'll never get tired of her answering the same thing on different interviews about what the source of wuthering heights is and she would passionately speak in detail the time she caught little dregs of it as a motion picture and when she emphasises that People are poetry. i love her with all my heart she is so wonderful and ive never seen a being so gentle and honest and down to earth

Her soulful integrity is precious.

Bless her heart - does a great job gracefully fielding his snarky, inane, impertinent questions.

Even her speaking voice is like a song or limerick. 😍

From the momentI heard Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights I played it constantly at full volume. Fantastic song, fab singer n so unassuming.

Beautiful and mysterious. Male interviewers in the 1970s were often creepy and disrespectful towards attractive women. Michael Parkinson was the worst. Russel Harty was bitchy. His interview with poor Kate was appalling. I can understand why she was reluctant to be interviewed.

KateBushIsTheBest He threw a bone to the fans out there who wanted to know all the details. Back then there was no net to find somebody's biography and few people knew much about Kate Bush other than the she was a promising, new artist. It's also likely he saw her as some "young, insecure woman" who seems really sweet and who lucked into fame with her hit. Some contemporary critics certainly thought that about her. Those scornful reviews are good for laughs today. I personally think interviews such as these only made her more determined to show her talent.

KateBushIsTheBest As you no doubt know her mother was Irish so in the mind of an Irishman (and a few other nationalities as well) you're whatever your mum is. The Irish diaspora around the world certainly lets everybody know their roots, albeit in a (mostly) tasteful way. The reason he asked was most likely a nice way to say to the public "Look, she one of us and her talent proves it." Never underestimate ethnic pride (or even nationalism) in the minds of the public. Btw, family lineage also means more in those parts. Anyway, the Irish are generally modest so few get offended. I would never ask such a question myself because I never cared about people's parents, their ethnic background or whatever their lineage is. Unless they decide to inform me themselves I will never bring it up. What matters is the person. Unfortunately most other people *do* in fact try to derive something out of a person's background. Good thing Kate isn't part Sicilian if you know what I mean. These questions do seem generic or random to us today I guess, and it's also likely they underestimated Kate at the time and treated her like a "talented but inexperienced young woman". She proved to be more astute than they expected answering these questions.

James Shunt Not only is Kate half-Irish by blood but she was exposed to Irish song and dance throughout her childhood and young adulthood. Her mother Hannah, as most know, was an award-winning Irish sep dancer. (Did this influence Kate to incorporate dance into her work?) When we have a true and monumental genius such as kate Bush it is relevant and interesting (and to scholars useful) to trace all of the elements that influenced her. Taking just a single composition, "Jig of Life" …. that beautiful work is certainly inspired by her Irish heritage. If she were not half-Irish no doubt that song would never have been written and we would not all of us be enjoying it. I agree that the interviewer brought up the matter as a point of "pride." However, if you suggest that her pedigree is not relevant, I disagree… If she were a renowned banker, perhaps you would be correct. When examining an artist of first rank, such as Kate, blood / ethnicity is relevant and allows us to make a full appraisal. I have read comments on these message board such as "she got her looks from her Irish mother and her brains from her English father." Maybe that poster was English? We'll never know. Of one thing I am certain: Kate Bush is a gift from God …..

What's scary is that she was 19 at this point. She was smarter than many twice her age. And it's true, in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, knowing the family/clan is very important. It tells who your "peeps" are. An English-Irish marriage was a bit unusual, given the turbulent relationship between them, although not unheard-of. Her family is Catholic, which makes it make more sense.

Erh!? We have lived together, married, loved, fought together, had families together for 2000 years. An 'Irish' American trying to tell us how it is over here: the English - Irish relationship. Forget the politics, the English and Irish people have mixed for countless generations. I'm English but also have a bit of Irish ancestry, like many many others in these islands.

Damn, she's not answering the questions properly .. Anyway, not to worry. I'll bang on about Waterford anyway .. She's probably just someone who wants to be in showbiz, I bet .. Damn, again .. I wasn't banking on her wanting to just write beautiful and inspiring songs. I had a ton of stuff about being on TV shows lined up .. Now what do I do! . She's way too smart and clever and way out of my league .. Quick, abort the interview. I'm losing control of it!"

She wasn't given enough time for her second album - it was rushed and she was disappointed with it, as were many fans. But from her third one on she was very much back on track and getting better and better ☺️

There was something predatory about the way he walked up to her at the beginning. He also seemed a little patronising toward her. She on the otherhand was as dignified yet modest, as usual.

Why is she "completely bonkers", though? Doing well rehearsed, highly choreographed eclectic professional performances on stage and in front of audiences and sometimes cameras isn't "completely bonkers", really . Neither is avoiding the grotesque, lying, twisting, disinformative mass media hacks a sign of being "completely bonkers". Kate Bush's personal fashion sense may even have Gothic leanings, but that is not really a token of membership to the "completely bonkers" brigade. She is indeed sincere, though. It's good that she prefers her production to interact directly with her retailers and customers more than the parasitic "journo'" hoards, I reckon.

Such a 70's interview; Gay's talking to her like her as if he were a headmaster about to give the top award to a star pupil at the end of term, on prize giving day. In the end of course, she on an altogether different level than he is, but she's just too polite to let on.
