Kate Bush interview, Ireland 1978
Ойын-сауық
Kate Bush makes her first appearance on Irish television on the Late Late Show.
Kate Bush performs ‘Wuthering Heights’ and chats to Gay Byrne about her musical background, her Irish family connection in Waterford and her plans for the future.
I love music and it’s been my way of expressing myself.
Most of the inspiration for her songs comes from people and the way they say things.
People are always saying things that inspire me.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 25 March 1978. The presenter is Gay Byrne.

Kate has always been such an amazing woman, never has been interested in the fame or fortune, she genuinely just has a passion and love for making good music.
Kate is rare combination of absolute sweetness and absolute coolness.

along with steely determination and the courage of her convictions.
Kate Bush is just beautiful, probably my favourite female singer. "Army Dreamers" "Babooshka" "Delius the God of the Summer" running up that hill is making a comeback some current filmmakers are using it. I always thought she had a granny from Howth, plenty to talk about there with Gay.☘💚🇮🇪🧚♂️
Gorgeous, lovely to listen to her talk
Amazing how she's come back into the charts after 37 years because of Stranger Things.

Only one word for this lady . AMAZING. She top of the charts again thanks to stranger things love her 💕
I remember watching this on my grannie's tv in Glenquin, County Limerick and have loved Kate's singing ever since. Gaybo was clearly besotted with her also. Thanks for posting this here.
She is just so lovely she breaks my heart
Timeless beautiful vocals & music one amazing lady, always brings memories back 🙂💯
Kate Bush absolute legend…
What an absolute legend. Such poise, dignity and that voice - so iconic. Kate Bush is also wonderful.
I remember watching this and her name stuck in my head since
Gosh when the Late Late Show had a charismatic presenter. Delighted to see Kate Bush getting well deserved plaudits and being discovered by a new generation. Although she is back in public consciousness again through Running up that hill it's her extraordinary debut single Wuthering Heights which marked her out as a unique and specil talent. For the record her mother's maiden name was Daly.
Have You another set of songs ready ? Kate Bush : Hold my Guinness ......
I would say Kate Bush was mature beyond her years and you could see she was interested in becoming a singer songwriter but the idea of being in “show business” appears alien to her. Did not realise how slight KB’s demeanour was until I saw her with Gaye Byrne. Was very canny about her Irish connection - interesting clip.
I’m old enough to remember the Late Late Show in the Gay Byrne years and the wonderful guests he had on the show
Such a lovely woman. Most geniuses are quite awkward.

I think Gay’s wandering eyes made her a bit awkward at the beginning. By the time he’d regained control of himself the damage was already done.

What a beautiful accent she has!

lovely soul 🤗
Kate Bush is a legend, genius, true artist and beautiful
What a beauty of heart, soul and mind. With Truckloads of talent also a very smart woman. A great shame that Kate and Phil Lynott had not teamed up and recorded a few songs, can you imagine those 2 most gifted and talented rockers working to gather, they would have been a perfect match and would have produced music that would have captured the world as their own music did.
❤🔥
Nice 👍
She looks and acted mature. Very unlike the younger people of nowadays!!!

I think Kate's mam was from Stradbally in west Waterford.
Kate Bush is everything!
Isn't that Henry Sellers?
Her mother was a Power of lismore. Great GAA people two of the uncles played county in 53 and a sister went to canada and married a prodestant....

haha classic, the paddies always have to get in a little dig if there's any inter-faith marriage going down, even if it is to a 'prodestant' (whatever that is). Not even the mighty Kate Bush is immune 😂
I've seen this before as I love Kate Bush. Zero chemistry between her and Gay Byrne, cringefest tbh

Checking out her cleavage definetly. And being a sexist monster talking about she could still be a dancer.
Never liked Gay Byrne he always came across as arrogant. So glad to see Running up that Hill is no 1 this week.😡😉

That was how presenters and continuity announcers tended to behave in the days before the media was taken over by overgrown teenagers throwing hip-hop hand gestures and asking everyone to “give it up now” every time someone came on stage.

I'm not Irish and I never grew up with him but......I don't get Gay Byrne. Every interview I see him do is awkward. My favourite is the one with KLF and them burning a million quid lol.
