Kate Bush interview, Ireland 1978

Ойын-сауық

Kate Bush makes her first appearance on Irish television on the Late Late Show.
Kate Bush performs ‘Wuthering Heights’ and chats to Gay Byrne about her musical background, her Irish family connection in Waterford and her plans for the future.
I love music and it’s been my way of expressing myself.
Most of the inspiration for her songs comes from people and the way they say things.
People are always saying things that inspire me.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 25 March 1978. The presenter is Gay Byrne.

Kate has always been such an amazing woman, never has been interested in the fame or fortune, she genuinely just has a passion and love for making good music.

Kate Bush is just beautiful, probably my favourite female singer. "Army Dreamers" "Babooshka" "Delius the God of the Summer" running up that hill is making a comeback some current filmmakers are using it. I always thought she had a granny from Howth, plenty to talk about there with Gay.☘💚🇮🇪🧚‍♂️

Gosh when the Late Late Show had a charismatic presenter. Delighted to see Kate Bush getting well deserved plaudits and being discovered by a new generation. Although she is back in public consciousness again through Running up that hill it's her extraordinary debut single Wuthering Heights which marked her out as a unique and specil talent. For the record her mother's maiden name was Daly.

I would say Kate Bush was mature beyond her years and you could see she was interested in becoming a singer songwriter but the idea of being in “show business” appears alien to her. Did not realise how slight KB’s demeanour was until I saw her with Gaye Byrne. Was very canny about her Irish connection - interesting clip.

I think Gay’s wandering eyes made her a bit awkward at the beginning. By the time he’d regained control of himself the damage was already done.

A great shame that Kate and Phil Lynott had not teamed up and recorded a few songs, can you imagine those 2 most gifted and talented rockers working to gather, they would have been a perfect match and would have produced music that would have captured the world as their own music did.
