Be a dear and write it down on a piece of paper for me" .. "Is she touring?" .. "You think so, oh OK, I'll assume she is" .. "Look, I'll just bluff my way through it. Say I've read some 9 page article. You know, that sort of stuff" .. "It'll work as anyone viewing will be eating their dinner and half listening anyway" .... 5 minutes after the end :- "Well, I thought that went well. She was very charming .. Be a honey tomorrow though, eh and get me Kenny Loggins will yer. Much more my scene and I've heard of one of his songs, too!"

Couldn't help but lmao listening to this debacle and reading all of the comments below. Kate was definitely calm and patient with this interviewer. But, there is a reason for this - she's had lots of practice - with English interviewers. This is well before her visit to the US. There are some really cringe-worthy interviews with men asking the questions. But, this one is definitely the icing on the cake. Uh, make that icing splattered on the top of the cake after it falls ass-over-tea-kettle onto a rain-drenched road. Loved the way Kate said 'Love', in a way only she can say it.

Music that is complex takes repeated listens to get and American's (for the most part) don't have patience for that. I mean, come on - Peter Gabriel era Genesis was so complex and they were a "cult band" in America and much bigger in Europe, Invisible Touch on the other hand was huge in the good old USA. Oh and I am an American, so I have seen this first hand.

I’m sort of amazed at all the shade being thrown at Sue Simmons in these comments!! I was never a fan, although I’ve known of her presence for her entire career on television back in those days. She never pretended to know more than she did - who knows how much earlier than the actual interview she got to do the research. I was expecting to see some really cringe-worthy disrespect from Simmons to the Divine Kate Bush - but that was not it at all. She didn’t know Kate’s work - she admitted it. Maybe she was a tad brusque, especially in the presence of such a great artist - but she knew nothing about her really, and said so right up front. She corrected her misnaming of “Running Up That Hill” - she wished Kate the best of luck in her career. I guess it was the comments that made me brace myself for something much worse. Jeez - it was a 5-minute interview. I don’t know - like I said, I was never a Sue Simmons fan, and she was just a newscaster, whereas Kate Bush I’ve adored since well before this interview took place - she had me at her performance of “Them Heavy People” on Saturday Night Live in 1979, and ever since - so I’m a huge fan. I don’t feel Simmons was in the least bit disrespectful, dopey, rude or mean. She did her best. She made a couple of mistakes, because of her lack of knowledge of the subject - she admitted them where she saw them, and tried to clear them up. And she even said, obviously impressed, that she had read a 9-page article on Kate’s musicianship. Sounds like everyone is expecting Sue Simmons to be a totally prepared Dick Cavett hour with Kate Bush. Strange to me the contempt shown by so many here.

Sue Simmons was one of my favourite Black American newscaster. Prince was a fan of Kate Bush. Her song This Woman's Work. Today we forget the worth of recording studios.

2:36 The 70s and the 80s were my first decades of discovering music and especially the 80s (including this song) affected my taste in music fundamentally. But in retrospect: how SHIT things were back then! "You were discovered..." Back then creators/artists were _discovered_ by labels, and typically managed local to one country at first. Now everyone (literally a thousand times more creators compared to then) can easily create, perform, produce, release and market music and even videos completely on their own on no-cost worldwide platforms, being available to billions of people. Imagine the luck that we all had that Kate Bush actually were discovered back then, and not yet another mainstream music broiler. And imagine how many creative talents that weren't... Today I discover several new amazing creators ecery week, from lots of countries. In the 80s, you typically had to spend lots of time and effort to find the interesting stuff: traveling to the next city, slightly larger that had record shops with (imported) alternative music, spy-reading rock magazines (also next city), staying up late night listening to more obscure radio channels/programs that played all the good stuff that weren't on the charts. It was also a misogynistic industry - so hard to find interesting female artists that didn't compromise on their artistic integrity. Virtually all record label bosses, all managers, all journalists and all magazine editors were men. Today, yt recommendations do all of that for me for free, way more efficient and also better than any chart or Spotify selection/collection. I loved the 80s and all the new genres and non-mainstream music from then, but all things together, music (the art form, the industry) is so much better now! [Thank you if you read all the way through my too long rant]

Yes. I remember a lot of artists in the 80's using the Fairchild. Like Peter Garbriel, Bryan Neo and Thomas Dobly. I think Sue Simmons would be right in saying that you could fart into it and it sounded like a 50 piece orchestra. Is that right?
