Larry from Louisiana here, Ian. Really been enjoying your channel and the great content. I bought one of these two years ago after researching all the filters out there. Yes, it's quite expensive, but you really can't put a price on safe drinking water in the wild. You can do without food for a month, but you'd better have drinkable water within 2 to 3 days, or you're done. I added the activated charcoal post filter to mine as a final stage since here in LA, the filtered water can still have a mossy, fishy taste to it which the charcoal pretty much takes care of. When I bought the filter, I also ordered a couple of the milbank bags from your side of the pond (couldn't find a US manufacturer) and if the water is brackish enough, I run it through the bag before sending it through the Kat. Most of the folks over here stake their life on the SAWYER filters or LIFESTRAWS but I'm not so confident in a plastic filter. Anyway, GREAT video and thank you! 👍👍👍

Cheers Larry. Yes I totally agree with you. Even here where the water is clear it does no harm to treat the water first and prolong your filter investment. Thanks for taken the time to view and comment. I really appreciate it. Next vid up in a few weeks in which I will deep dive the concept of food as you touched upon it in the comment.

Great video. I have an original Katadyn tactical black pocket filter. Works great. Usually use dirty water collection bucket with Milbank bag, Puribag and P&G floculant tabs and then pocket filter into boiling bush pot or Nalgene / mil waterbottle with chemical tabs. Then into MSR or Source bladder or two litre mil. water bottles. Just got to mind out for the crocs or hippos! Former bush war senior infantry officer in darkest Africa.

@@STIXSURVIVAL Yes, exactly...looks way better suited than all of theirs, but i did assume it was still theirs as it kind of matches their colours too!
