Russian figure skater Julia Lipnitskaya temporarily halts her free skate at the Rostelecom Cup, in Moscow, on November 5, 2016, due to a cramp.
Lipnitskaya won gold in the team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi when she was 15, becoming the youngest Olympic skating champion since 1936. She also won silver at the world championships in April 2014, which was her last major event.
She announced her retirement on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, after three months' treatment for anorexia.

When she fell after the cramp, I felt so bad for her! Really wanted her to end on a higher note, but she finished the routine which is admirable! Great skater!
My heart still breaks watching this 😢 I'm glad she's happier now.
I'd quit too.. this is horrible! How they treated her ! She's a brilliant skater she deserves a lot better overall! They could've at least given her a break and skate the routine again cramps are unforeseen... they give breaks to equipment malfunction , why not this? So unfair.

Russian figure skating is a massive global image for themselves. For instance, Yevgeny Plushenko left Volgograd city because sole figure skating school was shutting down there. He went to St.Peterborough on his own at age of 11(!!!) to be coached by Alexey Mishin. All his coaching, competitions and living expenses were covered (by some kind of system) Just 2 years later he appears on private video tape in Sydney, Australia while part of training camp. Try to comprehend what sort of expences these are. These are hundreds of thousands of $. His single mom was a janitor. He started earning decent money only aged 15, when he came second in European Championship. Russian figure skating athletes are pushed by enormous pressure to perform and to dominate. This machine does not care will individual break or not, main thing is to squeeze all juices out before individual quits. When he/she quits there are dozens waiting in line prepared by system. Did Lipnitskaya's place stayed vacant for long? In blink of an eye you have got Medvedeva, then Zagitova and now Trusova and other teens. There must be political interests behind this to keep patriotism high within masses with aim to maintain current regime.

Rather, if you become anorexic due to the enormous pressure to stay thin and be in control of your body and keep performing like you did at 15, you will suffer repetitive injuries and weakness and your doctors will inform you that if you continue on as such you will die. That's why Yulia quit. I wouldn't call that being timid.

Elena C. She had anorexia which led to deficiencies in potassium and other nutrients and that can cause severe muscle cramps, tearing of muscles and other health issues. They are forced to follow strict diets and training routines and it led to her developing anorexia which she kept hidden probably out of fear of getting in trouble. After winning the Olympic gold she was under a lot of pressure to be the best and keep on winning gold medals. She couldn’t handle the pressure and it made her anorexia worse. That is awful and amazing at the same time Amazing because she completely skated through the pain like a professional, and because once she stopped skating and went back she gave it her all. She took all she could and put that strength into it Awful, because the coach made her skate anyway even though she was hurt. Like someone said in the comments she is a seasoned professional and beautiful skater. She knows what she can and cant do and knows her limits. Also sad because she looks so crushed waiting for the results, practically crying either from disappointment or pain, or even both. :( I'm sure Russia was proud for such a strong and dedicated skater I am extremely sad to see her retire, but I do pray for her and hope she gets better 💕💕

Sharky Squad boy her health would have only gotten worse with more and more cramps starting from anorexia. This would just be ignored because she was skinny enough to keep jumping. As cruel as this sounds I’m glad this was able to happen. Long term health is so much more important then lasting like 2 or 3 more years (taking in account for Eteri’s huge skater turnover rate) in ice skating.
The worst part is seeing Yulia cry, then the fans cry, then Evgenia's face 🥺
So sad that dumping Eteri couldn't prevent her from going through this and the anorexia she would battle soom after. But out of all this she emerged stronger and become a wonderful mom to a lovely daughter. The best of health and happiness to her in the future.🙏
Cramps are really painful I’ve experienced them while sleeping and it would wake me up from the pain. It’s amazing that she continued to skate on that leg.
She is so beautiful in every way. The close-ups on her face on spectacular & her skating is divine.
Лучшая фигуристка,таких больше не делают!!!
I stumbled upon this video, but will say this girl is beautiful and should have been given a meddle for enduring the set hurting this bad! I could see the pain in her face!
What a beauty in movements ..gliding one with the music and ice .one can see the disappointment she feels for not being able to continue . Years of practice and hardwork
If marks were given for effort, she would have maximum, a true warrior!!
Julia we all love you 😘 🌹😘🎈💕🌸❤️ be strong May God Bless you 🕊🙏🕊
