Journey - Live in Houston (November 6th, 1981) - HD Remaster
Музыка
Date: 6th November 1981
Location: Houston, TX
Venue: The Summit
Source: 2005 DVD
This is the most famous Journey concert. Performed at the The Summit in Houston. They play through all their hits at the time and some other songs. All of the songs here are performed really well and this show includes the fan favorite track Mother, Father where Steve Perry gives an insane performance of the song. The original TV broadcast of this concert does not have Dead Or Alive but it was since then reinstated on the DVD release.
There is a couple edits to the vocal track in this release that I can pinpoint, one is during Escape and the other just before Lights where Steve Perry says they are recording the show. He originally said "M Television" but it was fixed in 2005 to make him say "MTV".
Upscaled by Matthew Dalley which looks 10 times better than the semi-recent remaster in 2022.
Setlist:
0:00 - Intro
1:19 - Escape
6:18 - Line of Fire
10:16 - Lights
13:29 - Stay Awhile
16:04 - Open Arms
19:42 - Mother, Father
24:04 - Jonathan Cain piano solo
26:57 - Who's Crying Now
33:03 - Where Were You
36:55 - Steve Smith drum solo
40:46 - Dead Or Alive
44:49 - Don't Stop Believin'
49:32 - Stone in Love
54:10 - Keep on Runnin'
57:56 - Wheel in the Sky intro
1:00:12 - Wheel in the Sky
1:05:47 - Encore break
1:07:00 - Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
1:11:39 - Any Way You Want It

I don't know if this video compilation was around back then since videos of music wasn't really a thing back then. Not even on MTV. But ironically since they don't even play much music on MTV anymore, it was the excitement over MTV that created such a frenzy over music videos and brought about more and more bands making professionally made music videos. Snd artist, if they wanted to be noticed, all started producing good quality music videos. But the downside to that was that the attention became more focused on the appearances of the band members and fancy choreographed dance routines and gymnastics from the members of the bands, especially the lead singers. It became more about the optics than the music or real talent of the singers or musicians. But Steve, while not performing any wild aeronautical moves, flying suspended over the crowds or being upstaged by the magnitudes of scantily clad dancers now used in just about any big artists videos, stayed true to the tenants of true rock and roll singers and song writers. He moved around with his own kind of natural grace while performing each song with the same exact gifted range and natural vocal talent which made his live performances always sound the exact same as he did in a studio cut record if not even better. And he didn't have those perfect vocals and timing some or even most of the time but just about every single time he performed. No synthesizer, costumes, choreographed dance moves, back up dancers, Lazer light shows, pyrotechnics or lip syncing for Steve. Just pure raw talent and exceptionally gifted ability to touch the souls of every single concert goer back then and every one of us watching him almost 50 years later.
No tracks, no drum machines, no effects. Just Kick ass Rock and Roll!!!

Steve is running around and singing his ass off while the band is killing it. Everyone is singing back up and ripping it. No body does it like this anymore.

The incomparable Steve Perry, also known around the entire world as “The Voice”! We love you forever Steve!
Steve Perry is amazing so was his band no one will ever compare to him and his band amazing
Fabulous footage of Steve Perry & “JOURNEY” ! So clear it takes me back to the 80’s concerts I was privileged to attend via my Uncle D who worked for A&M RECORDS, Hollywood! It’s 2024 and Steve Perry STILL has the golden VOICE 47 years after he joined “Journey” in 1977.
Was never a huge Journey fan, but this is one of the best live performances of the 80’s. Just 5 guys on stage playing real music. Steve is one of the GOAT rock voices! And as a drummer I always loved Steve Smith’s work, just crushing it here. One for the ages.

I'm watching in 2024. Steve Perry rules then and now
I was at this concert! I can't believe it's here on KZread! I lived in Austin at the time, and I remember the crowd was crazy into Journey and also remember getting 2 flat tires on my old mustang on the way home. For the life of me I remember more about the way they played (awesome!) but can't remember who I went with. 😀
The original Steve Perry I hope you get the life and respect you deserve. So awesome 😎👍
Remember just waiting for this concert to air on MTV and all these years later this concert still !makes me happy

Kim, I am 62 and pretty much saw EVERY tour live. It truly was MAGICAL. I was high NATURALLY for at least a few days after a show, they were so energizing and lifting, just like here 😉
Wow ❤❤❤ Amazing performance by SP and the band. Mother Father performance is off the charts. There are not enough words to describe this live performance. I want to go back to the 80's just on this day only for this concert. I was little young a the time to have gone. We're lucky that they recorded this. Thank you for posting.
There is no questioning their musicianship. The boys were tight!

This is fantastic!! Most of the time when someone says Remastered it might be a little better but this is definitely the best I've seen of this show.
Amazing quality.

@@pattytomko6816 What you describe here _(the exact same quote read from different sources, time and time again over the years)_ can just as easily characterize an actual quote as... an urban legend. Could you please provide me with the primary source of this quote, i.e. the audio, video or written passage where Freddie Mercury, the person/reporter who asked him the question, or an eyewitness to this scene, relate this conversation? It's a sincere question though, having myself searched for the origin of this statement for years.

I have preferred Perry's voice over Mercury's and can barely tell you what I've heard him sing more than once. Knowing what Perry has sung over the years is a different story.
Thanks for this new upgrade. It's certainly come a long way from when I recorded it on VCR when they aired it the very first time back in 1982. And watched that VHS tape hundreds of times, probably. And yes, that edit in Escape is at 4:32 when Steve Perry crosses quickly in front of Steve Smith on drums. In the original, he misses the word "break" in "I'll break away", which was a misspeak, not a bad note. I still hear the original in my head when I watch the edited versions. It went kinda like "eh ahk away". I liked the "M Television" too, because MTV was still so new, he apparently didn't know exactly what to say. History was being made and I was there for it. I saw them in LA about 3 weeks later than this Houston performance and I was mind blown. I had no idea how good they were going to be. Steve Perry in particular, of course.
Steve( Stephen Ray) Perry ( adaptation from Pereira) has 100% Portuguese genetics. Unfortunately here in Portugal 🇵🇹 he doesn't have the recognition he deserves. But he always says he's Portuguese ❤

❤at the very best moments
I can't imagine what it was like to sing over all the guitars and drums.
My Lord.. What an amazing band. Not a single flaw in any one of them.. Perry, Schon, Cain, Smith and Valory… just incredible. 🇺🇸
Loved Journey since the 70's! Memphis, TN in 1978.
Of course we have seen clips from this concert but I have never seen full concert. Wow!!Steve Perry and the band, so much talent. Those high octaves SP reached with so much passion!! and such ease live and no auto tune or backing tracks, kids today need to take notes!! No lip sync crap. Wish I could have seen them in the 80's before Steve left.
Amazing performance he is the best singer
Good Sound Mix!
Best live of lights 🎧😍
The ending with Steve and Neal, how perfect is that?? I remember when the concert was aired on Mtv, my best friend and I couldn't WAIT!!! The guys were on top of their game!!!

I remember this concert that as it was yesterday I was 16 years old sitting on my couch somewhere in New Jersey
I was at this concert at The Summit. They were throwing MTV tshirts to the crowd before the concert, but we didn’t know what the were for (same shirt Neal Schon is wearing).
Gracias

“The Voice”!! Need I say more??
I wish that SP WOULD come back
スティープペリーが大好きだったから彼の脱退は悲しかったな……
Love journey and Steve Perry had the most incredible voice probably of any rock group. It’s sad that with age and probably overuse that he has lost a lot of his range. The passing of time is not kind. He probably at the time didn’t realize just what a great voice he had and when looking back on videos like this wishes he could jump back in time. It’s a shame that for the last couple of decades there have been no great talents/rock bands. Years ago there was so much pure talent and I’m so happy that I was able to hear great rock music and attend great concerts in my youth. I wouldn’t pay a dime for the so called talent out there today. Seriously Taylor Swift give me a break.
I saw this tour 10-15-81 Jacksonville Florida with Loverboy supporting! a couple of weeks before this gig... Steve Perry is amazing along with Neal S 🎸!!! やはりスティーブペリーだよな
Is it just me or is that drum solo longer? I swear there were two ore three parts that are not on previous releases. I am always paying attention to the details. Steve Smith solo's have always been very "musical" to me. Not just random hard to play beats and endless double bass. He puts forth a groove and then plays within the structure, until he switches up and flows into another passage. Like a guitar player establishing a chord progression and then soloing within its confines.
Awesome concert ! You upscaled it from DVD to HD using AI ? Did you use DVD audio or seperate HI Res audio ?

Just want to point out how heavily edited Any Way You Want It is in the 2005 release. A couple of the choruses are dubbed over. Just compare it to the original radio broadcast.
