50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PINK FLOYD‘S ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’. OUT MARCH 24
Announcing the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ as a deluxe box set to celebrate 50 years since the release of one of the best-selling albums of all time. Newly remastered, the box set will be released on 24th March 2023.
One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
The new deluxe box set includes CD and gatefold vinyl of the new 2023 remastered studio album and Blu-Ray + DVD audio featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also includes additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix plus CD and LP of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’. For full details see listing below.

@Mark Petersen Well done youngster. Finding proper music in amongst the crap we're surrounded with these days can be difficult. I hope this comes to mean as much to you as does for a couple of generations before you. I knew my kids were growing up well when they started listening to PF......and now their own kids are listening to it too.

I am 66 and go to the local Senior Center every day. Nobody knows about this wonder. My close in age siblings passed from ALS. My husband was born in 1972 and loves Ozzy but never heard this album through. I am lonely with this wonderful memory. This album is quite profound, especially to the suffering.

I bet no one will even read this, but this album means so incredibly much to me. I listened to this contantly during 2017, a very transitional peroid in my life. I was lonely, not happy at all, but somehow still hopeful... At the time of writing this, ca 7 years later, I'm genuinely content with my life. I'm not entirely sure it has anthing to do with this album, but somehow I attribute my current situation partly to the impact this album had on me during that difficult time. Thank you for reading :)

At last an official version on KZread with no interruptions between songs, this is the proper way to listen to this masterpiece. Edit: Reading some of the comments saying that listening to it on youtube is not the proper way, I want to clarify that I have it on vinyl and I have a great turntable and audio equipment. For me that's the best way to listen to it... but what I meant is that it should be listened to without interruptions.

I played this for my dad as he was passing away. It was just him and i in the hospital room and he was at that stage where there were no more words that could be spoken. It is an artistic masterpiece of audio production. Plain and simple. But beyond that, an emotional portal into a broader understanding of life itself, if you dare to consider its content seriously... hence it's continued popularity through generations of music listeners who hear it. It can hit you a different times though, there is no age more appropriate than any other to visit the dark side of the moon.

My Dad passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2023. He was a huge Pink Floyd fan. He had amazing taste in music. From a very young age, I can remember waking up to him playing this album from his bedroom, and then as I got ready for school. I will miss you SO MUCH Pop. My heart is broken. I know, one of the first thing I noticed when listening to this album in the seventh grade ... I was lucky to borrow a magnetic tape with a fifth or sixth copy on it just for a week ... Unfortunately, I could not duplicate it at that time, not only because the quality on the next copy would further degrade, but I just did not have another tape recorder anywhere near (heavy reel-like Soviet-made). On the black market an album like this would cost 70-80 rubles (The Wall up to 150 rubles), while my parents made 140-220 rubles/month each ...
Currently on 4 tabs listening to this for my first time. Im 21. Boy have i missed out
50 years later and I'm still convinced that the meaning of life is hidden somewhere in that album.

In 1973, my neighbor came running across the street and started beating on my window, he said you have got to come hear this...he had an incredible sound system in his room, we darkened the room, one of the greatest and timeless musical experiences I've ever had...this album defies to be tied to any musical decade..
@ikigai47
6 ай бұрын
That's hilarious. I totally get what you're saying. You're saying this album is the epitome of timeless, and I 100% agree. But at the same time it's easy for me to tie this to a decade. Early 1970s at its finest. It just happens to also be the greatest album of all time. This album is the biggest reason why, for me the greatest era of music was the 60s/70s even though it's slightly before my time and I didn't get to experience the vibe first hand, in real time like you did. The 80s were the most eclectic across the board (from Slayer to Duran Duran), creative and experimental with new music tech, the 90s were an amazing back to basics, less flash more substance time, and then we started falling off with the advent of the internet. Enter the "music should be free" crowd killing the dreams and incentive of countless, actually talented musicians, and replace them with soul-less mouse and keyboard warriors ready to click their way into being a talent, no talent required. Can't sing? NO PROBLEM! Auto-tune. Can't play an instrument? NO PROBLEM! Hit ctrl+I for instrument, then clicky click you're Beethoven! 😂

This album came out during my first year in college. The effects of the Vietnam War were everywhere. I fell into the drug scene and dropped out of college disillusioned. Three years later, I met the girl who would save my life. We will celebrate our 47th anniversary in a few days. This music brings tears to my eyes as it transports me back to a time when my world turned upside down.

I didn't get verklempt until the very end. Still remember how blown away I was by this album when I first heard it back in, oh, '73? I'd never heard anything like it. Still haven't, really. Love the comment from that 13 year old kid. Have heard comments like that before from young folk who think the music being produced today sux and that they wish they could've been around when things like Dark Side were first being created. This album repeats in history as society repeats history (Vietnam = Afghanistan, etc.) and being one who scored well in both “American & World History” I feel we are seeing the first steps to repeating it again, WW3 but here in America due to so many let over our Southern border. This album was released on this day, March 1, 1973 … 51 years ago. I was 18 and about to graduate high school in Iowa. It was life altering, especially the song ‘Time’ … the lyrics, “And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun” This became like a mantra to me. It got me out of the place I was and to what I have become - a better man. Music is a huge part of my life, and this remains one of my top 3 albums.

It Escapes Time Completely...I think It wasnt Even recorded But is a Moment Frozen or Ingrained In the Webbing or waves Of The Complete Infinite Universe/ all Multiverses... My dad’s favorite band was Pink Floyd. He passed away about 3 weeks ago. I grew up with the best taste in music thanks to my Daddio. His favorite song was Comfortably Numb, but his favorite lyric was from Time and it says “And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.” When I turned my dad’s car on for the first time after he passed… guess what the first words I heard out of the speaker were? Exactly those lyrics!! My dad has been sending me so many signs since his passing and most of them involve Pink Floyd. I know he’s rockin’ out in heaven right now. Until I meet you there, Daddio. Check out some of the tribute bands. I was lucky to see Floyd several times in England and I've also been to a few tributes. Think Floyd are definitely worth checking out if they are still performing!

I've seen Brit Floyd several times and they are fantastic!
First time doing really good shrooms in 2001, this album was on repeat the whole night. 23 years later, I still trip on it, completely sober. This masterpiece will remain in millions of hearts.

Wow prayers for your son, I certainly know what he has gone through. 3/06/20 I had a triple bypass surgery.
As a Sabbath/Zeppelin/Deep Purple rocker kid of the 70's, this is the album opened up my soul. To this day, it is still a life changing experience to listen to it...over, and over...and over again. In fact, my father, an avid Jazz audiophile, asked me to bring this album out to the living room so he could listen to it. After he heard "Great Gig in the Sky", he looked at me and said, "Play that when I die".

Pink Floyd was a game changer for me. When I first heard this album I didn't understand, I liked The Wall etc. But the more I listened I came to love earlier PF 1967-1975, especially this album. Honestly it's the best album ever made
