Good video mate , as a kid growing up in the sixties we use to buy scouse pies in a few places around breckfield road . And the one thing I can clearly remember was that a Scouse pie them didn’t have a top crust , it was simply the gravy that has hardened. They tasted amazing . I always bought one when coming back from Margaret street swimming baths .

I am a pie man. I can leave chocolate and crisps. But pie's I can not resist. Today in crocky Park, the market was back 😊 Pie's galore 😀

Same here pies i cannot resist The market in woolton sells boss pies and there a couple in bootle car boot who sell home made pies ...bloody lovely

We used to get Johnson’s meat and potato pies about 45 years ago , my Nan lived on Laxey street , walking distance, they were fantastic must try one soon 💯

In the 30 odd years I’ve had a Johnnos pie I’ve only ever eaten the meat and potato. They’re just that nice I didn’t wanna try the other ones. I showed me mum and dad the old ferry terminal for the garden festival at otterspool from your video. All the times we walked past it and never knew what it was.

The best ever Scouse Pie came from Baxters or Hollands - I really can't remember who made them. They had Scouse in a round foil tin, topped with flaky pastry. I ain't seen them in ages but they were beautiful. They were the local equivalent of the Cornish pasty. I'm surprised nobody does them anymore.

Glad to see the butchers is still going strong. I lived around there for te first 25 years of my life and i only remember them selling the meat and potato variety. We lived in Kings Gardens from 74-78 and then Prince William Street that ran behind Johnno's until 95 and went to St Patrick's

I like the hollands ones they brought out which take like 59 seconds in the microwave...they are really tasty

I miss a meat + tatty pie, morrisons here in wales used to do them but either I get there too late or they dont do them anymore. I went home to liverpool for xmas and took a few home with me lol

I played football as well on there, never had one of those pies though, bought the stewing beef loads times to make scouse with tho, its the best! I remember the days of the cabs on the harlow all the 8888s with brian cook on the radio! ha.

The pies look great mate. Sent me right back to the 1960s ..there used to be a "Pie factory" C/O ARTHUR STREET ,opp the the "METAL BOX " Walton, to the side of Walton Hospital. They used to stack the pies on their racks along the wall of the Pie Factory to cool(straight out the ovens. Me andthe mates worked in "WONDERLOAF" Taylors Bakery as VAN LADS. We'd usually get back to our Depot around 10.30 in the morning after our bread round (5am start) andhead straight to the pie factory to grab acouple of pies to walk homw with. (my choice was "SNAKE + KIDERLY". I lived a mile away from work and the pies were that HOT you'd end up walking in the house still trying to eat the boilng hot pie. They charged us 6d (a tanner per pie) 5p nowadays???. I think they supplied "WONDERLOAF" with pies + all the local chippies. GREAT VID YA PIG...ENJOY MATE

​@g2emedia1977 My mother used to make the pies in the 1970s, well helped as she worked in the bakery it was still owned by Ken Johnson who sold it to Stan who I believe had worked there for years, Ken used to drive a jaguar and park it right outside, johnsons consisted of 3 units, The butchers, bakery and mini-market ,The meat and potato pie remains the same and is easily the most popular.

Do you also remember getting toast in Stebby Baths. I think it was from the old wash house at the side of it.

What i remember from stebby baths is the hot drinks machine always getting hot chocolate or soup after swimming lol never had toast from there

I remember getting hot choclate on the way out with my dad from the brown machine by the original entrance! and walking back cutting through at back of the great eastern pub.

I'm nearly 65 George and I can remember Jonno's pies when I was growing up in Caryl Gardens. They are just Amazing, the only one I haven't tried is the Cheese & Onion. I Love two meat & Potato in a bowl with Hot Oxo over the top. I can also recommend the Steak & Kidney but they don't half sell out quick. You want to get down there for about eleven' o clock mate 👍👍

@@g2emedia1977 Bloody hell George we have the same taste when it comes to grub. I love Chaus, especially his Salt & Pepper Chicken. Back in the day he used to make curried Mince and it was Luvly, I still make it now at home. You can't beat a big plate of proper grub mate 👍👍

@stephensmith4480 chaus is bloomin amazing best tasting curry ever i remember chaus back when i was like 10 would always ask my mum could she go and get me curry rice chips My other fave chippy was georges park road next to macs sadly he had to sell up and look after his ill wife but wow the best donner burgers ever ....bloody miss that place

Never tried this pie shop but I will,I normally go to cowards butchers when working in frodsham they make lovely pies as-well.
