that jeanette mccurdy clip really overshadows so much of this for me. (24:05) "You're playing an adult's game, you're in an adult's world. And you don't recognize that. You're incapable of being on that level, but you are confused and you think that you are. And I think it really leads to,,,, stunted personal development." tbh going into this video i was just here to clown on jojo's goofy antics but now this has me thinking about the future and how we'll collectively reflect on this 5, 10, 15 years down the line. tbh, since jojo's mom has been her momager for literally jojo's entire life,,,,,, i'm not confident that we'll get any real self-awareness or self-reflection from jojo until her mom dies. like,,,,,,, how else is she gonna get the space and independence to sit with the Real reality, behind the scenes and reality TV, of what her mother has done and how far outside of "okay" and "normal" jojo's life has really been?

I think you're right and we're going to start seeing it as the children of "influencers" grow up and start hitting.. idk.. 30? This whole reality entertainment bs really got going with kids in the 00's and it's in full swing now with online influencers who use their kids for views and engagement. I really think over the next 20 years we're going to see a tidal wave of folks coming forward to talk about the abuse/neglect they faced as child entertainers in the "reality" world just as we have been with the "fiction" side.

@@StarwarsCustomizer12artist just means you are involved in an art. it doesnt have to be good or creative, especially in mainstream music, to be called an artist. someone could be a terrible benchwarmer in high school football, they’re still an athlete because of the role that they were given even if they hardly play. regardless, a lot of artists dont write their own music and depend heavily on autotune, especially today. they’re still allowed to be called an artist since its a classification and the only requirement is that they perform an art. also, your comparison is a little off. any musical artist can release an original art since everyones voice is unique to them. the same cant be true for a physical art like drawing or dancing, because those moves/art can be copied by anyone and its unacceptable unless its augmented. tracing someone elses art is quite literally copying them and plagiarism whereas singing someone elses song is considered a cover and acceptable since another persons voice would be unique.

If that benchwarmer was going around trying to get interviews with the sports broadcasters saying I suck at football but I’m an athlete and am reinventing football with my new playing style of “gay football”, they too would probably be dunked on like Jojo is.

As someone who loved Dance Moms growing up who watched Jessalyn and Abby's treatment of her in real time, I agree in the one sense that she is the product of all of the abusive adults in her life ... buuut, as someone who also experienced extensive childhood abuse, there often comes a point where you decide that you never want to do to another child what your own parents did to you. Jojo has yet to have that moment and is instead continuing the cycle, despite a LOT of people who have called her out on it. It's her own choice now not to change, lots of people grow up abused and don't become abusers.

I'm not gonna justify any of her behavior. Just keep in mind this girl has had no adults protecting her. Her own mom would bleach her hair as young as like 3. Like a toddler. She was exposed to allot of dangerous groomers. She never had a normal childhood or was able to find out who she was on her own. As someone who also wasn't able to have a childhood experience for different reasons it makes me sad. She's in denial still. Because she's only like 20. When her brain fully develops I hope she starts seeing reality for what it was and starts working on herself and working through the trauma and stuff.

i think my biggest issue about this rebrand is that it’s so CLEARLY a rebrand. miley rebranded herself, but it was with reason and purpose, she was ACTUALLY being a “bad girl” going to parties and sneaking around getting drunk. and i’m not saying jojo HAS to do those things to make this rebrand work per se, but it creates a disconnect between her and the brand and the lyrics. i think it would’ve been more successful if she swung in the complete opposite direction and did more of a “stripped” calm like “look at the real me” kind of thing to show that she’s a real person and not just evolving into yet another brand. like you can’t just CALL yourself a “bad girl” and then you are one. you actually have to do the work to take on that kind of persona. anyways, great video! always love your essays ❤

I think everyone talking about this "rebrand" are not acknowledging that Jojo still has the mentality of a 13 year old. The girl needs a metric ton of therapy.

THIS. It is very likely, given she is still in the environment and the way she speaks. This is very common for someone her age that has in essence, had their development interupted as a result of her early and continued, adverse experiences. She could continue to go down a very dark, arrogant and narcissistic path and hurt others or if there are buffers in her life ( healthy relationships) as well as her own continued developent ( age and stage, her personality) it can also go in a positive direction.

The funny things about Jojo idolizing Miley's "Can't Be Tamed" growing up phase video are threefold. One, Miley did some sexy shoulder-and-hip writhing with backup dancers but it was tame by today's standards. She eased into the sexier stuff with multiple videos, not one. Two, Miley's look wasn't a grimdark parody of her 'old self' so it didn't feel like she was trying too hard to seem more grown up. Three... it was a good song.

JoJo's reboot worked, because it's real reason for happening was to distract people from the allegations against her. She made one of her dancers dance after having spine surgery, and when it started bleeding she said "Put a pad on it". She was being worse than her abuser (Abby Lee Miller) and is in fact still "friends" with Abby. Let's not forget about her friendships with other controversial people like James Charles, Colleen Ballinger, etc. She defended COLLEEN BALLINGER with the excuse of knowing her since she was a kid when the allegations on Colleen were about grooming and molesting children who were fans of hers. So even though people say "Her reboot flopped" or "Why Jojo Siwa's Reboot Failed:" just remember that it really didn't. She got what she wanted one way or another because we popularized her reboot. I don't blame the public, she is solely responsible. Aside from that, let's not forget that yes Jojo bought the rights for "Karma", but she also lied claiming she wrote the song, while it actually was written and performed by other people like Miley Cyrus, Brit Smith, and another woman. She also stole a song by a TikToker that hadn't released the song yet, but had shared a clip onto TikTok a few years back. Jojo shared the song when she played at a bar I believe. She claimed "I wrote it about my ex". The clip was the exact same. She hadn't even bothered to voice it over or cover it with her voice. Please recognize this guys, cause if you don't Jojo wins. made by: @senoritamazapan

Honestly i dont think her doing bong rips would be nearly as controversial as it was when miley did it, mostly bc after weed has been legalized in so many places its just not seen as a taboo by wider audiences anymore. Also unfortunately for jojos marketing team, the transition from squeeky clean child star to raunchy adult artist is significantly smoother today than it was 10yrs ago, mostly thanks to miley n those before her taking the worst of it. After bangers nothing any child star does to switch images will have the same impact, it all feels either like not a big deal or like theyre being a cringey try hard. Her switch to adult artist wouldve been effective if she just did it naturally without trying to make a big deal out of it, but thats not gonna get the level of attention her n her team clearly wanted out of it.

I don't know if it is just because she is trying to distract from the XOMG Pop stuff or if this is what she thinks she needs to do for her Bangerz Era (which she has told us that she is doing) and to show that she is now an 'adult' seeing as she was getting so much hate for years that she was still JoJo with the BowBow. I am also suspicious of that seeing as JoJo said that she was sitting on the song for 2 years and was waiting for the right time to release it. It will be interesting to see how her look etc changes for the next song whenever it drops. I hope that she figures it out soon just because I am seeing her on the press tour with the other girls for the Dance Moms reunion and it constantly looks like she missed the brief for what the dress code and occasion is.

You mention it, but.. LET'S NOT FORGET: Jojo Siwa, and her mother, created an abusive set on Dance Pop Revolution. Leigha Sanderson was bleeding from her belly button, and had to get spinal surgery. She was told to keep dancing, "Put a pad on it". This information released recently, and suddenly, coincidentally, Jojo Siwa has her entire cringy, deliberately obtuse, rage bait rebranding. All news has been focused on the rebrand and straying away from the more important issues. Jojo Siwa has also been recently communicating with and supporting controversial and/or criminal personalities such as: Shane Dawson, James Charles, and Colleen Ballinger, to name a few. This rebrand is not important. Also, the idea that Jojo claimed she wrote Karma comes from these couple topics: "Choose Your Fighter" ad-libs, like you mentioned, and I also believe it's obviously not her voice singing it, it's Emeline's I can also distinctly remember a clip of her saying, "When I wrote Karma.." in a quick interview. Lot of people heard this, but can't find the clip anymore, so idk. Some Mandela Effect going on there.

Where does the Mandela effect take part in this? *I had to fix this because a few grannies and grandpa's where too old to understand * What I meant was the Mandela effect doesn't really take part in this as it's more of manipulation than anything. Making people think that Jojo didn't say she wrote karma ,even though she did but the clip was removed from the internet and that manipulates people into thinking they imagined it or got the words wrong. That's why I said "where does it take part ", because it isn't people forgetting but rather thinking they got her words wrong or thought she said something alone those lines

Did you read the whole comment? Hsmorg clearly stated what they thought might be an example of the Mandela Effect before calling it that.

On a more serious note though: I pray that her rebrand thing is just a clever marketing trick and not … for real (? That sounds so mean) I hope everything in this is just a calculated move to have us all talking. It does feel like it a lot. I am so torn between being absolutely annoyed and feeling so sorry for this girl that wasn’t allowed to go out and eat grass (like, have what I would consider a normal childhood, do all the kids stuff, come home with a scraped knee and big bright smile, you know). Everything about this is so surreal. The angry choreography, the strenuous singing (if not even Autotune can fix it, maybe consider re-composing the song for her vocal range for gods sake), the Gene Simmons meets Monster Energy Can outfit … it has to be some kind of social experiment. I refuse to believe anything else.

I think what it ultimately comes down to with Jojo "stealing" is she's just not as good of a public speaker as she should be, and would like to think she is. There's several lines where she kind of insinuates she wrote it, or had a past girlfriend in mind, which isn't helped that it's doubled-down on until she realizes she has to clarify herself. Lol. Because as much as the internet will take things and run with them, there's a reason why the confusion is there in the first place, and Jojo isn't helping.

Even with the "inventing gay pop" claim. It took her rambling to TMZ on the street with that person actually guiding her through her thoughts to get her to finally say something that made a bit more sense. It's still a ridiculous claim, but it's less ridiculous than her thinking she's invented anything.

I find it so funny that she said she said she wasn't the president just the CEO, when typically they are the exact same thing, but when they aren't the CEO is above the president. She's... not the brightest cookie.

The first time I had ever heard of her was the time she went on some podcast to defend the Miranda Sings groomer allegations by saying she wasn't bothered by them because she was friends with this predator as a child and none of the creepy behaviors seemed too bad to her at the time....and I knew she was going to have her own controversy in the very near future. I'm honestly a little surprised it happened and the abuse wasn't sexual, unfortunately i was right about there being a wake of abuse victims which is sad.
