Wasn't it more that she was too rebellious for a woman of her family at the time? Her behaviour was too disruptive of what the Kennedy parents wanted for their kids and as she was about to runaway she was put to a lobotomy experiment, to be basically discarded. That's what I got from what I read, not that she was disabled, before the lobotomy thing that is.

There is a rumor that her cognitive disabilities were caused by a birth injury. Supposedly the doctor was late and the nurse told Mrs. Kennedy not to push and even pushed Rosemary's head back into the birth canal. This caused her to be deprived of oxygen and get mild brain damage.

from what I've read Rosemary had developmental issues growing up and her parents recognized she was not like her siblings. As she got older, she became aggressive in her behavior. Also, she would wander off from her school at night so her parents were concerned about her safety. Apparently her aggressive behavior worsen and that is why her father decided that a lobotomy might help her. The doctors performing the surgery messed up and she went from a functional adult to that of a child of about 5 years old mentally. Anyway, that is what I've read from numerous sources. Joe refused to talk about her and what happened and banned the family from talking about her. It wasn't until after Joe Sr's death that the family acknowledged her. The Special Olympics was founded by her aunt Eunice as a way to bring mentally challenged issues up for discussion in American life.

There might have been some good intent when they got her lobotomized due to it being a procedure that was seen in a different light back then, but there is also a chance that it was done to keep her from acting out and fall in line. Also don't think a male slibling would have gotten the same treatment if he decided to act out and go home with women at night.

Rose Kennedy's father was the mayor of Boston. Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy did not die in a plane crash with her husband. After a short marriage of only 3 months, he died in the war. She died in a plane crash with another aristocrat she was dating in 1948. Technically she was an unmarried widow at the time of her death, so her father had her buried in England in the Cavendish family churchyard near the Chatsworth estate. (He was the only family member to attend her funeral. Her mom didn't like that she had married a Protestant.) JFK made a private visit to see her grave when he was President, shortly before he was assassinated.

While I am no fan of Ted or the other Kennedy boys (they used to throw rocks at my father when he was a little boy in Hyannis) I do not believe he was as culpable as many believe regarding the Chappaquiddick incident. I have been to the bridge where his car went off the road. I can't speak to his drinking but I can speak to the danger that bridge posed when I tried to drive over it at night. There is no light, no sign and little in the way of guard rails or barriers. What is shocking isn't that his car went off the road. What is shocking is that more haven't. I almost went into the water myself and had to swerve to stay on the road. It may have changed since I last drove on that road many years ago. I can't say. So as to how he got into the water, it would not take any alcohol to get you there, only the slightest distraction. Ted also was not an experienced driver. He was young and while he did have a license, most of the time he was driven around by professional drivers. He had about as much driving experience as the average 17 year old. As for his reaction after the fact. I can't speak to his exact experience but I have experienced almost drowning having been tossed into the deep end of a murky pond in my youth and I was physically stunned for hours. It would not take alcohol to experience confusion after such an event. For the first several minutes he may not even have realized he had a passenger. By then it was too late. A lot of people have accused him of buying himself out of a prison term. I don't know if he did or not but I think we also shouldn't make accusations against people just because they come from a wealthy family. He wasn't a nice person to be sure but that is not an excuse to convict unjustly. In any case, the incident cost him the White House in 1976. He'd have had a good chance at winning which might have resulted in Reagan not being elected and were it not for Reagan (and later Bush) the U.S.S.R. would still be a thing and we may very well have ended up today in the aftermath of a nuclear Armageddon. So while it is tragic the poor girl died and true Ted had an indirect hand in it, her death may have prevented World War III.

I had a close relative who was Joseph's driver for many years. He told me a great deal about the Kennedy's. Rosemary, for example was autistic. Little was known about autism in those days. Her family found her behavior inexplicable. According to my relative, Rosemary mysteriously grew a large belly and when it became noticeable she disappeared. In other words, she became pregnant out of wedlock. The next time my relative saw her she was no longer with a big belly and there was no mention of the mysterious baby. It was never seen. Shortly before she disappeared she went absolutely ballistic and was heard screaming obscenities. According to my relative, upon her return she was nearly catatonic being rolled around in a wheelchair with a "vacant look of a zombie" on her face and the only words she spoke for months were her mumbling "my baby, my baby." Joe Kennedy was an evil bastard. How he managed to spawn some wonderful children I'll never know. I have met Eunice several times. Another relative of mine won several gold medals in the Special Olympics and for a number of years she was one of the celebrities who handed out the medals. They usually pose for pictures with the winners and their families. I think I have about a dozen such photos thanks to my very athletic relative. At one point I was on a first name basis with one of the Kennedy's. Be nice to your relatives who have disabilities. You never know where your kindness will lead. The first television network cooking show was "Cook's Night Out" which the BBC first aired in 1937 when Patricia Kennedy was 13. The program she produced at the age of 22 was "I love to Eat" which first aired in 1946 and was hosted by the renowned chef James Beard. I have first editions of 19 of his books signed by him in my cookbook collection. Interestingly the very first cooking show to air in the United States was a radio program called "The Betty Crocker Cooking School of the Air" and first aired in 1924, the year Patricia Kennedy was born. My great grandmother had a home few doors down from their home in Hyannis. She was friends with Rose for a number of years. I have photographs she took of Rose when she came for tea. At the time she was pregnant with Jack and was camera shy as most pregnant women were in those days. In the photos she is sitting in a rocking chair. I have that chair. My father didn't like the Kennedy boys. They would often shut down the street for their football games because Rose didn't like them chewing up their nice manicured lawn. When they did this they basically told the other kids who lived on the street that they owned the street and to keep off of it. When they didn't they threw rocks at the kids, my Dad being one of them. But a relative liked the Kennedy's though that might be due to being hired to be Joe's driver. In the 1980's that relative was going to publish a book but was bought off by the Kennedy's. I however, was not bought off so I can say as I please, especially since that relative is now deceased.

It should be noted that the 'Kennedy curse' does not just come from plane crashes. A number of other accidents and drug issues have cause more deaths over the years, and since the publishing of this video, one of Bobby Kennedy's grandchildren and her son, the first of the 6th 'known' generation and who was only 8 years old, died out in Chesapeake Bay. Thank you for these family histories, and I do appreciate the simplicity (especially for royal families) but would actually love to see full family trees discussed as well.

And as the popular vote results were so narrow 49,7% Kennedy to 49.6% Nixon, one could say "Camelot" was based on Maffia support.

You should do videos on the Adams, Roosevelts, and Bushes next. Also, Bobby Kennedy never ran against LBJ in 1968. He announced his candidacy on March 16, 1968, but Johnson announced his decision to retire exactly two weeks later, on March 30. And even if he'd lived, it's very unlikely he would have won the Democratic nomination. In those days, primaries were simply "beauty pageant" votes that had little to no bearing on the party conventions; all you needed was the support of the party bosses. Hubert Humphrey, the eventual Democratic nominee in that campaign, didn't even run in any primaries, but he was the sitting VP and thus had the support of the party leaders locked up. While Johnson was on the primary ballot in some states, he never formally declared his candidacy before bowing out and only was on the ballot because it was erroneously assumed he would run again.

Katheleen Kenenedy (or Kick) actually had a remarkable life. Her husband was heir to the Dukedome of Devonshire. Their marriage was controversial since she the Kennedys and Kick herself were very Catholic and the Cavendish belonged to the English Church. They married purely for love. Only one Kennedy was present at the wedding. Tragically William Cavendish died the same year fighting in the ww2. She died a few years after the war in a plane crash with her new lover the 8th Earl Fitzwilliam. She was noted by many to be extremely charming and witty.
