    Given that my earliest ancestor, on my mom's side, to arrive in North America did so essentially as a stowaway, and under an alias, it's hard to track our family tree. According to my Grandma, he was caught hunting on crown land, and instead of facing punishment, snuck onto a ship and left. Only being discovered when the ship was at sail.

    The Atlantic covered this nearly twenty years ago in an article called "The Royal We", which pointed out how the exponential growth of our family trees into the past means we are ALL related in the relatively recent past, including to the royal houses of Europe. Edit: the article points out how Saddam Hussein always claimed to be a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohamed, who fathered a good many children. Saddam was most certainly correct.

    Sorry , i didn't get , who did father fifty children ? Do you mean the Prophet Mohamed , because he only had 7 children and , though i do not disagree with you , his descendants today are only through his daughter Fatima , she's the only one that had children who lived and had children of their own . EDIT: I am sorry again but even saying "who famously fathered many children" isn't valid if only one went on to have children ... EDIT2: The same issue with "a good many children" : ) ...

    I’m most likely a descendant of a seneschal of Leinster who was given land by William Marshal. Nearly a thousand years later people in my family are still named after him. But as an American I’m not related to any presidents lol. My ancestors were their servants. I am related to a minor Irish founding father through the aforementioned Anglo-Norman knight. But through this line I have connection to two US presidents. My 3x great grandmother was a servant for both Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt. FDR and Eleanor paid for her bridal trousseau.

There's a good probability you are also tenth cousins, or maybe ninth cousins, or both. When you cast such a wide net, these sorts of multiple relationships become inevitable.

    I found out when they finally found Richard III's remains and DNA tested it, that we're some kind of related, as we have the same mitochondrial DNA. I'm sure it's some kind of very distant relation, but it's pretty neat that my family actually looks a bit like him and Scoliosis runs in our family. Also, after a few years of genealogy research and help from numerous distant relatives figured out that I might be related to Anne of Cleaves (related, not a direct descendant, obviously). Our family descends from her sister. My little sister and our cousin both actually look almost exactly like her famous Holbein portrait. We're also related to James I/Mary Queen of Scots through an illegitimate daughter (of James, obviously). I think her name was Janet. It's been a long time since I looked at the records lol Like you said, it's not exact, but it's interesting to see something like that.

    I will say that pretty much everybody in England is related to King Edward III. King Richard isn't as common but I believe everybody who has English ancestors has a relation to Royalty somehow. It's a cool coincidence that these family members look similar. You see If we go back 21 generations we have like 2,097,152 ancestors. In England when Richard was born, there were around 1.9 million people, so you can see how its relatively common to have some sort of relation to royalty.

  • @MuricaTurkey

    @MuricaTurkey

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@thelisapisa It's been at least a decade since I went through the stuff I found, and I didn't take it very seriously, as it's not really provable (unlike the Richard III DNA). I also suffer from memory loss due to a recent health condition. So, unfortunately (and embarrassingly) I don't remember 🤦‍♀️ But considering the fact I had some ancestry DNA testing done and I don't seem to have any Hungarian DNA, I would guess it's the other sister. But again, it's not something I take very seriously. More like an interesting curiosity. Like he says, being related to royalty isn't really that special nor is it really meaningful beyond some kind of fun, unofficial trivia. I am curious now though to remind myself which sister it was. So I'll probably look when I get a chance and try to respond here later.

    Hello, 12th cousin once removed! Weirdly it looks like I'm not a descendant of King John even though I'm half English. Most recent king I found was Henry III. This is all according to Geni, though. Also Zachary Taylor is my closest presidential relative, my 4th cousin 8 times removed. Both of us are descendants of Isaac Allerton, who came on the Mayflower. We're also both descendants of William Brewster, another passenger.

    How fun that your wife & sons are related to William Dawes! I’ve done a lot of research into his first wife Mehitable’s family- Her half-sister Abigail’s husband was in the Boston Tea Party, and one of her half-brothers was an ancestor of Louisa May Alcott! Dawes himself is actually also most likely buried with Mehitable and not at the plot in King’s Chapel that everyone goes to visit. It’s so fun finding out how all of them were connected back then!

    See theres an issue for me. While my grandparents on my fathers side can easily traced back to early 1900s Russian decent, my moms side is a lot more challenging. My moms great ancestors were some of the first people to migrate from France to the St. Lawrence colony. Over time they most likely intermarried with local Canadian natives, making me French and Canadian if you go back centuries but as you mentioned it's difficult to trace back to the 1500s and so it will be challenging to ever know if I'm connected to French royal families. But I may be connected to some far Eastern European royals as I am incredibly Russian and most likely part Polish, Finnish and Ukrainian so one of those have to work right?

    Eunice Whitcomb Bezanson may descend from an ancestor who lived in Besançon or a town named after it. Besançon is a French city whose name is very fun to say. The name derives from classical Latin _Vesontio_ with a probably Celtic origin. But the name got clobbered over time, sort of like Cologne. And now we have the objectively silly name "Bezanson."

    Apparently I'm a direct descendant of king Henry the 7th. This wouldn't put me in the line of succession because I'd need to be a direct descendant of Sophia of the Palatinate which to me knowledge I'm not. P.S even if I was in line for the thrown there'd be hundreds of others before me. Edit: I did some extra research and I'm 17th Cousins four times removed to queen Elizabeth.

    It doesn't take that many generations before we are all pretty much related. It has been estimated that just about all modern Europeans are descended from Charlamagne. I myself am related to President John Adams. I believe I'm related to him about 4th cousins about 7 times removed (I would have to look it up again for accuracy). Probably every American is just about as closely related if not closer I would think.

    It makes me wonder about those creation myths of many ethnicities/nations/tribes, where everyone is descended from this one almost legendary father or mother figure. If Charlemagne from over a thousand years ago in a world with such a huge, international population as we have today can be so prevalent in our genealogies Imagine even farther back in time in smaller scale civilizations.

She is also a descendant of Sophie from Palatinate,the woman, who is by the Act of settlement from 1707 the mother of the british royal family - she is arround position 2,100 of the appearant list for the british throne.
