More About John Carpenter's They Live: Nada (Roddy Piper), a wanderer without meaning in his life, discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued, and that most of the social elite are skull-faced aliens bent on world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens.

He truly nailed the role, I ALWAYS roll my eyes when they cast celebrities like singers and wrestlers, regardless if they were a singer I admire like David Bowie or wrestler like John Cena, as I wonder if they have the ability to act or think they do. Rowdy Piper (RIP) did and he was awesome in the lead, I wish he were here to talk about the film and how he had fun during filming the fight like picking up Keith and asking “Where do I put him?”.

@@uscman you know the irony here? David Bowie got his Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin sane characters by copying at that time Nature Boy Adrian Street who would later become exotic Adrian Street. Marc Bolan of T-Rex admitted in an interview where he got the inspiration for his costumes " from watching Adrian Street wrestle on television". Not necessarily the glam rock movement itself, but the Wardrobe for the Glam Rock movement was inspired by a professional wrestler.

Since it's a B-horror/sci-fi movie it couldn't have been possible. There are thousands of great movies that get rejected because of their genre. Usually, comedy and horror get looked under as "low-brow". They do sometimes have their own awards but they tend to have a very niche audience.

I would argue that art was imitating life in this case. They Live is a scathing criticism of Reganomics, ultra conservatism, and late stage capitalism. He made this movie because of life. We were already there.

It isn't the world's longest fight scene that honour belongs to Jackie Chan's Young Master - 20 minutes for a single fight.

It's called hyperbole. The point is that when you think the fight's going to be over, it keeps going.

I do not like fight scenes like this. Yet this one to me is the most important one ever to be portrayed in Art. It is symbolic that it is such a hard and long fight way over limits, one that may ruin your health to get to someone to dedicate, open himself/herself up to truth. 2020 with its Corona Agenda makes this statement plainly visible.
