The sunglasses serve as a metaphor for plainly seeing the net history of a top-down class warfare. In the movie, there is an actual invasion of aliens that are physically discernible. In real life, the predators look just like we look, but their actions are to corral the drive of normal people. Less competition for the finer things in life that way. Now, SLEEP...

When I first saw They Live' I had never seen a film like it before, it absolutely blew me away.

You take a pro wrestler as main actor, ofc he's gonna have fun big time if you allow him a "friendly fighting" scene! That movie was just that, pure fun, awesome movie! It did not take itself too seriously and yet, was damn clever and well written, unlike pretentious BORING movies we see too many of today!

I have to disagree a bit. By keeping other channels off, rather than watching the trash TV with you and pointing out the mind-numbing consumerism and patriarchal acculturation, etc., she was making it harder for you to relate to those who "need the glasses". People I know in entertainment are trying to work in subtle and not-so-subtle messages, a bit like the glasses, but using the same signal wavelength. Actually, they are like Mic Fleetwood's character in The Running Man, a similarly-themed movie. I do applaud you mom for showing you the good stuff. This movie influenced me. I was 17 when it came out. Two years later I became a radical activist and did it for 30 years. We tackled weed legalization and climate change. I never payed taxes, instead I chose to keep my income below poverty level so as not to pay for their wars and fossil fuels. True story. No regrets. I volunteered my time to causes that resist the capitalist consumption of my planet. I highly recommend it.

Shortly before his untimely death, Roddy Piper stated that the movie "They Live" was a documentary..... I grew up in the 80s. I saw this movie when it came out. NOBODY believed that it was actually showing you what is happening, because if it was meant to be taken seriously, they wouldn't have had "Rowdy Roddy Piper" a wrestler, as the star of the movie..... Everyone else just took it as a joke/paradoy movie

"Being driven mad by discovering small truths" sounds like the reall 2019-2022

About the part filmed in the homeless camp; Mr Director also kept them on payroll even when scenes did not call for them, just so they could get legit money, and have access to the catering food provided for actors as long as possible.

My dad and I watched this movie at home when it came on HBO or Showtime back in the day. We only watched it because we were wrestling fans, and we loved Rowdy Roddy Piper. I had no idea that I was watching one of the most important films ever made.

For those that never watched this movie *PLEASE GO WATCH IT.* It's really good.

The untold truth about They Live it was really a documentary

It may be VERY superficially about the culture of greed, and a criticism of Reagan, blah blah... But many people know full well what this movie is REALLY about. You won't get that from this vid (though it's not a bad vid for what it is). If there's still anyone out there who doesn't get it, I suggest thinking of this movie as closer to documentary than fiction.
