I love the thought you put in to you essays. The Thing (1982) is absolutely one of my favorite films and is an amazing adaptation of "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell. John Carpenter is a genius and Kurt Russell and the ensemble cast were superb. This agonizing scene was the entire story in microcosm.

My cousin put this movie on one night when I was 8 years old. I couldn’t sleep for three days. It is still, to this day, in my top ten movies of all time. The fact that the viewers have really no way of knowing who is the thing at any given time. That combined with the pace of the events instills panic inducing anxiety that is unmatched from any other movie. Especially some of the crap made lately. I can’t even imagine how I would react to this situation. I would like to think that I would have duct taped myself to MacReedy’s leg. Lol!

Yes, it is still just as effective today as it ever was. It's classic look and characters almost had a 70s vibe to it all that has so much charm. But then the incredible creature effects that looks better than modern CGI keep this movie thrilling to watch in modern times. My fav horror next to Alien.

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE It’s such an incredible thing to see when all the right elements converge at the right time and place and produces a masterpiece that inspires not just endless conversation and debates. But also careers. How many people that are professionally making art and films even KZread videos now cite this movie as inspiration.

Thank you for taking a look at this classic which is a favourite of so many. You picked the right scene to analyze as I think it kind of represents the theme of the film. The rising tension and overall feeling of dread at a point when so many questions are as yet unanswered. We don't see this use of practical effects as much in these days of CGI and the in camera effects can be so much more visceral and shocking. For me, there's something special about stories that play out in the polar regions. Survival stories in the forbidding cold and isolation. Excellent video and i look forward to whatever you've got up your sleeve for next time.

Yeah this film has everything in it as you say. I have a strange fascination with Antarctica these days simply because of the numerous rumours involving UFOs or UAPs 😉 as well as classified government experiments etc. Not only is The Thing one of the best horrors out there but the fact that they uncover the space craft in the ice buried 100k years ago just makes it perfect for me. Take care
