John Butler ‘Discovering Stillness - Part 1’ Interview by Iain McNay.
John Butler ‘Discovering Stillness - Part 1’ Interview by Iain McNay.
Author of ‘Wonders Of Spiritual Unfoldment’ and Mystic Approaches.’ His loves were farming and meditation. Tells his story of spiritual unfoldment and how he discovered stillness. It was not always an easy path for him and he went through periods of depressions and hopelessness.
‘Realisation is not a personal attainment - it usually comes at times of deep prayer or quietness when the mind is clear of personal me…’
‘I’m just a quiet old man of regular habits going up and down the hill to church each day, sitting on a bench when the weather is warm. I don’t speak much. Adventures are inside.’
‘From worldliness the absolute completion of Pure Being can seem out of touch, more theoretical than real. How can it be relevant to need? Once known however any return to ordinary worldly ways only seem to emphasise its loss.
Total longing brings its own reward but all feelings of achievement disappear. Incomparable gifts of Heavenly Grace instruct, inspire, save us from drowning in the world.’

It never gets old
He touched on something that slapped me in the face around 10 years ago. I have always loved solitude; even as a toddler I apparently used to run away from mum and just investigate the park as if she wasn't there while she watched me. My siblings are 5+ years older than me, so I remember looking out the window watching them go off to school. It hurt a little bit to be left like that, it probably felt like being abandoned (to my little mind), but I soon learned how to entertain myself which began a lifelong habit of enjoying solitude. What hit me 10 years back when I was almost 40, was that although I was in a bustling community of people, happy, friendly, very social, because there were cliques and a lot of the interactions were somewhat superficial, I felt very, very lonely, lonely in the middle of a bustling socially active crowd. I realized that when I'm on my own, that gnawing sense of loneliness I felt in the crowd is completely absent. To me, being in a group of people but being unable to connect is a fate fare worse than being alone. There's contentment when I'm alone, but in that other situation there's pain and confusion.

@mikeb3315

No One is ever truly alone... But see it as all one. Loneliness... Or oneness... As you said, "its what my mind told me" what is the mind... The ego? The ego can't bear being "alone". Hope all is well.
@TinyMaths
3 жыл бұрын
@@dennissmith9435 I can't be exactly certain of the answer to that. I know that as a youngster I was 'forced' to be alone for long periods of time. I can also remember that in my pre-teen years, I used to feel the pain of being left at home while my older brother went out with his friends on all-day bike rides and did other stuff. I remember the pain of it. But I soon forgot about that pain and learned to entertain myself. I guess repeated responses like this were habit forming. I eventually started to engage in hobbies that require a lot of time alone to develop the skills the hobbies require. One such was learning Piano; back when i was playing, I had little trouble spending several hours a day trying to learn music. I honestly don't know the answer. I've kind of eked out an existence and really enjoy solitude nowadays. Sometimes, if I'm in a crowd for long enough, I find myself longing to get back home to myself, where I can indulge in whatever I love doing.

"If you find an intelligent companion who will walk with you, who lives wisely, soberly, overcoming all dangers, walk with that person in joy and thoughtfulness. If you find no intelligent companion who will walk with you, who lives wisely and soberly, walk alone like a king who has renounced a conquered kingdom or like an elephant in the forest. It is better to live alone; there is no companionship with a fool. Let a person walk alone with few wishes, committing no wrong, like an elephant in the forest. People say old people can teach you a lot and they have plenty of stories to tell but they don't capture my interest like this man. So I can really connect with the story of john and his little ram.

What an affecting interview, thank you very much. Mr. Butler's sincerity and open-heartedness are palpable, and feel to me like fresh relief and an antidote to today's cynicism and bitterness. Thank you.
I once experience an ejection of some negative “seed?” a similar story to Johns at the end of this interview 53:33. After which I felt at ease with myself and the world, and come to the realisation that compassion and forgiveness is key, compassion for other beings and most importantly compassion and forgiveness for yourself.

I noticed that bit as well. How strange. I don't imagine Mr. Butler would say something such as that idly. I love how it through off the interviewer though.
He was a quiet man... an artist...
Because John put all his level up points in Wisdom, his ability to make anything really interesting is such an amazing thing.
My heart swells with joy listening to you. Thank you.
Somehow the story of the Ram made me cry. Beautiful.

The fact I'm not a religeous man, and yet this video hits me on a deeply spiritual level should tell you all you need to know as to the effect John Butler has on me.

That fact that this video hits you on a deeply spiritual level, unlike many of the commentators on here, says more about you than about him. If I was you, I wouldn't let this be just a one off experience. Perhaps, like him, you are also searching for something deeper.

What a lovely man, people like him remind me there is good today. I hope he lives forever, I hope he is living a happy life still and I hope that he never has to deal with old age pains/illnesses . I would be honoured to call him my dad/grandad or whatever. Finally I hope everyone who meets him gives him the respect and manners he deserves. A genuine legend. Thank you sir
I think my cat has been secretly watching John's videos for years - she was looking very still this morning for a good solid 2 hours straight- ❤ on a serious note - john you've brought me and continue to bring me and others you touch a deep comfort. God bless you 🙏🏻

This mans voice melts me away into complete relaxation whilst offering wisdom! ❤️
Good Morning John Butler, may you be blessed.
Anyone else just want to hug this guy? Or is it just me?
Wow! One of the best interviews you have ever done, the truth on show for all to see, thank you to you all.
This is an incredible interview. John Butler you are a remarkable humble human being. Thank you for all that you are
I didn't knew he was a philosopher, I used to use this to fall asleep ... ...
Are we sure this man isn’t a wizard? He gives off this wonderful, magical wise man vibe.
This is beautiful. A true opening to love and everything.
"Finding stillness in the movement..!"
The way John talks is so fascinating, very quiet and slow, almost like he's thinking deeply about his next words and pondering about them after he's said them.
This has to be one of the most beautiful videos on this website
