John Bolton on his new book "The Room Where it Happened" - FULL INTERVIEW | USA TODAY

John Bolton, the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, talks with USA TODAY's Washington Bureau chief Susan Page about his new book, "The Room Where It Happened."
RELATED: Watch Trump's campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma • President Trump holds ...
Bolton has gained national attention for his criticism of Donald Trump after spending nearly a year and half as the president's top adviser on national security. Bolton continues his criticism and recounts for USA TODAY some instances in which he questioned Trump's acumen, intelligence and dedication to issues of national security. Susan Page asks Bolton about the impeachment efforts led by House Democratic Party leadership, to which Bolton responds that he would have convicted Trump on Ukraine. But Bolton is not interested in supporting Joe Biden, or any other Democratic candidates in 2020. He plans to write-in a conservative of his own choosing.

I read the book, which content is quite well organized and presented and my observation are the following. 1. Bolton actually presents Trump in better light, than what we can observe from Trump’s everyday behaviour through his tweets, interviews, statements and surrogates. He makes him sound intelligible. 2. Bolton makes himself grandiose by subtly describing his role in executive branch. At certain parts of the book, I felt that it was Bolton that was running the country by manipulating Trump and his inner circle. 3. It was depressing to read Bolton’s view on United States allies. His view is that Europeans are pansies. In general, his view of other world leaders is quite black and white. The nuances to characters are missing. 4. I understand realpolitik, but his view on human loss is chilling. In a book there is a part describing hypothetical loss of life of 150 people. (Iranian) and his reasoning is cold and analytical. Also, after a failed meeting between N. Korea and USA, Kim Jong-Un had one of his advisors murdered and two persons imprisoned, possibly tortured. Bolton just shrugs it off. 5. While all wars are ultimately about money (or resources) it was abhorrent to read that USA wants to charge money to foreign countries - allies such as Japan, S. Korea, Germany, Poland, Saudi - and calculation is cost + 50% profit, for their interventions, their military bases…etc. There are many more things I could write about, but suffice to say - Mr. Bolton is no hero for bringing us this insider view of bubbling idiocy that is D. Trump. If anything, I found him to be cold, calculating and manipulative.

Yes, during the interview hr doesn't seem as bad as the rumors. But while watching this in its entirety, he does seem to be trying to humanize himself right before our eyes. Your synopsis of his perception of Trump & the world at large, in written form, doesn't seem off at all. In fact it sounds spot on. Everything he said in this interview sounds like what you concluded he'd voluntarily say in a book, instead of testifying, for money.

John Bolton was the neoconservative foreign policy cabal's direct line to the White House. He is the most important neocon currently in, or just recently in, the government. He is a brilliant political thinker, I must grant. He has never met a war he didn't like, but the erratic nature of Trump's behavior has to have been frustrating and infuriating to a brilliant organizer of his own thoughts, and to the effective achievement of what neocons agree on in every theatre. They still think The Project for the New American Century (1996) is a winning geopolitical strategy! But in general, watching Trump conducting diplomacy by Twitter, I figure Bolton finally had to have gotten tired of it.

No question that he has a high IQ, is honest and disciplined. The problem with Bolton is his perception of reality. He operates from the position of fear. He sees everything as a threat. His take is simply eliminate the threat. The result is massive amounts of blood on his hands and by extension Americas. Both have a bad reputation.

Bolton is a traitor. He was entrusted with confidence on matters which he could not have learned if not of his official capacity as a National Security Adviser. Whatever information he learned in that privileged government position, he is duty-bound to hold it in confidence in the interest of the state and for America. What if all Generals of the military, retired or not, and other people holding confidential positions would do similar gimmicks as what Bolton did? The security of the people of America would be put in great danger. Other countries and institutions opposed to the US would capitalize on these “revelations” to the extreme prejudice of the state. XXXXX. Worse, Bolton is making a raking in the sales of his book at the expense of America. Bolton should be prosecuted for this transgressions and gross irresponsible conduct as a government official entrusted with high confidence by the government.
