Why is CBS giving air-time to "Johny" ? He is very late in the game and when he could have acted, he did nothing at all ! He did not testify in Congress about the very facts that he presented in his tell-all book!

Bolton is smart and articulate and has an obviously good grasp of national security issues. I find myself agreeing with much of what he says, YET, despite this, I cannot ultimately respect him for the simple reason that he failed to use his influence to help get Trump impeached, instead preferring to salt away his knowledge for a fat book deal. That, in my view, makes Bolton little more than an opportunistic political hack.

I agree with everything you’ve said except for your conclusion that Bolton is “little more than an opportunistic political hack.” Few people should be defined only by their failures, even one as troubling as Bolton’s cowardice/greed in refusing to say what he knew about Trump when it most mattered. But as a Scoop Jackson Democrat (a concept you’ll be familiar with if you’re close to my age), I find myself drawn to Bolton’s potential candidacy despite his flaws because he has the knowledge, experience, strength of conviction, national-security priorities, foreign-policy chops, and clear-eyed view of America’s place in the world that we desperately need at a time when America is (and has been for at least the last six years) in decline and the world badly needs leadership on democracy and human rights and on the fight against Chinese, Russian, Iranian, and North Korean aggression. If Bolton runs. I’ll switch parties so I can vote for him in the Republican primary. I hope other Democrats who share my feelings do the same.

I would certainly agree that Bolton possesses the technical competence to serve as president (especially when compared to Trump), but his saber-rattling foreign policy views would, I fear, entangle the USA in yet further wars. Let's not forget that this man, Bolton, never met a military conflict he didn't like, or have a hand in.

Look, none of us is totally comfortable with Bolton’s itchy trigger finger, but if Trump is the alternative in the primary, voting for Bolton is a no-brainer (I think you might agree at least on that), and I’m afraid that Biden would lose to Trump in the general election for reasons too numerous to get into here. At least in a Biden-Bolton matchup, there’s little chance the result would do the unthinkable damage that a second Trump term would do, and I don’t buy that Bolton would necessarily get us into a war if he defeated Biden. Do you think China or Russia would continue to be as brazenly provocative as they have been during the Trump/Biden years if Bolton were president? Has Trump or Biden successfully deterred either North Korea or Iran from pursuing their nuclear ambitions, and in the case of North Korea, firing increasingly powerful test missiles at targets in Japan’s back yard? I also believe Biden procrastinated for so long before agreeing to send the tanks and now the aircraft to Ukraine that it has so urgently needed for the past year that I fear we’ve cost Ukraine its earliest and best opportunity to seize the momentum against Russia. Anyway, we seem to have similar principles; I just weigh them differently, and very few of mine are so absolute that they crowd out all the others. The world is a complex and dangerous place.
