John Aldridge on the Hillsborough disaster.

Спорт

"The coffin comes past and you're thinking 'just get yourself together'. Then a little coffin came after, a little coffin. The fella and his son had gone to a football match. It broke me in two."
John Aldridge recalls his memories of the day of the Hillsborough disaster on 15 April 1989 and the devastation throughout Liverpool in the aftermath.

Let me just say this. John is the most genuine person who you could wish to meet. Walked past him in the airport one day as he was on the same flight to Dublin as myself. I said hello and he smiled back and said hello. Just that small gesture shows he's no prima Donna and a proper top bloke. Small things but big things make a difference. Certain other players should try to be half the person he is!

I don't think football fans who are not Liverpool fans understand how much Hillsborough decimated Liverpool as a club for years, if it wasn't for the strength of the people at the club like aldo and Kenny to name a few, i think the pain would have been a million times worse than it already was, through their strength and will to give back to the fans who suffered that day is exemplary and what football can be all about when it's needed most 👍 YNWA

The whole Hillsborough incident was absolutely tragic. 15 days after that match, Liverpool travelled to Glasgow to play Celtic in a charity match to raise money for the families and victims of the Hillsborough tragedy. I will never forget the 1 minutes silence before kick off and me standing in “The Jungle” area of Celtic Park. The silence was beyond eerie. God bless John Aldridge, he has a heart of gold 💛🙏

You can see how raw emotion 😢 still in aldo's voice still to this day. It sickens me how these rival fans think its banter singing about Hillsborough. That tragedy could have been any team fans back in the 80s. Anyone who takes satisfaction in innocent fans losing their lives are absolute lowest of the low.

John Aldridge never stopped scoring or creating goals, wherever he went. Newport County, Oxford Utd (2nd Division & League Cup winner), Liverpool (Premier league and FA cup winner), Real Sociedad, Tranmere Rovers. Plus he scored 19 goals in 69 games for Ireland, and was an important team member at Euro 88 and the World Cups in 1990 and 1994 (scoring a crucial goal against Mexico in 1994 which helped Ireland progress to the knockout stages).

Read the reports the fans had nothing to do with it. No matter what you want to believe. It was a monumental cock up by the authorities. Those innocent fans were funnelled into already packed central pens when the ones either side had plenty of space. Do some research before spouting shite that the scum paper spewed out.
