Outstanding! Thank you for keeping the commercials. The show is great, but the commercials complete the full nostalgia experience.

I remember this exact episode and have thought about it over the years. I was a young teen and thought Joey was cooler than Johnny. To me there weren’t many adults that were with it but Sammy sure was!

Many years ago, I went to the great Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago and watched an episode with Yvonne DeCarlo ("The Munsters"). It was in b/w and terrific. LOL.

Friday, January 28, 1968. I was a kid, but so glad I remember these great performers. Sammy Davis Jr was such an amazing vocalist. Love the promos for ABC shows. Other than the kids and younger actors in the commercials, Robert Wagner of It Takes a Thief, is probably the only person still living from this tape.

I was just 8 and something about Joey was different than, say, Johnny. I mean this in a good way. He was more approachable and his humor was his own. Great combo with Regis too. Color TV (we were still B&W at home) was likely being pushed with episodes like this one, so the wardrobe is a guest in itself. I know the show was edited, even lightly rehearsed, but it had a "of the moment" feel that worked well. For me the favorite late night hosts definitely include Joey as I just liked his style.

Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse had their best interpreter (to date) in Sammy Davis Jr. Was he offered the part of Captain Hook in their take on Peter Pan (Danny Kaye, Hallmark Hall of Fame, 1976)? Some company out there should look into that one.

Joey Bishop was a talented monologist (probably approaching the level of Jack Paar or Johnny Carson in ability). He had a smart (for the time) humor, but had a self-defeating knack regarding likability within the industry.
