Joel Klatt Ranks his Top 50 Players in the 2024 NFL Draft

Спорт

Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt reveals his Top 50 players in the 2024 NFL Draft. In a draft class loaded with talent at QB and Wide Receiver, he makes the case for North Carolina’s Drake Maye as an elite prospect and tackles the question of where to rank Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr compared to the rest of the top prospects in the Draft. Klatt ranks the elite WR’s in the class like Ohio St’s Marvin Harrison Jr, LSU’s Malik Nabers and Washington’s Rome Odunze and explains what makes them so special. He also reveals a surprising pick for his top defensive player on his board.

Most DEFINITELY!!!!!! Klatt gives us A TON of information and validity about his views on the game, not over the top silly antics (ala Steven A on ESPN) in an attempt to draw attention to themselves and away from the topic at hand. Not all ex Players or Coaches make good analysts (ala Warren Sapp - Randy Moss - Mike Ditka - Marty Schoettenheimer.....etc), but Klatt breaks that mold!!!!!!!!

Zach Wilson’s arm is next level. He is a supremely gifted thrower. The bonehead mistakes are exactly why he’s a complete bust. “Watch the throws he makes!” What about all the throws he doesn’t make? Stroud didn’t make the same kinds of mistakes at OSU that Maye made at UNC. It’s a high risk high reward situation.

Maye is definitely the riskiest top 7 QB. If Daniels can't quite be an elite QB he's still an elite runner. Decision making is fantastic among McCarthy, Penix and Nix. Rattler has played in a pro style and his game vs Maye I thought he looked like the better player even getting sacked every play. Maybe is a project, he might work out or he might be Zach Wilson because his decision making can be rough to watch at times. Not as forgiving in the NFL as in college.

Dumb comments with terrible examples that are not true. 1. Zack Wilson played in a Covid shortened Big 12 Conference season. Defenses aren't talented in the Big 12. 2. C.J. Stroud played with a great offensive line and great WR'S. Drake Maye had a terrible O-line and only one above average WR. Plus the NCAA held that WR out for several weeks. 3. Drake Maye's 2023 completion percentage was 63.3% His turnover worthy throws are very very low. 4. Drake Maye's WR's dropped several passes in EVERY 2023 GAME! Conclusion: Your comments on Drake Maye are not very intelligent.

And valuable info from a guy steeped in the college football scene who by his own words watches not only tons of games but also film on those individual players. Keep up the good work Joel. And even though I’m not a Michigan fan it makes sense giving some of these guys love that others have not when they simply dominated college football this year. Probably some steals from that underrated group.

I do think Maye will absolutely succeed in the NFL. He has the size and IQ. His weaknesses can be corrected. He is keeping himself out of the media so his stock is not rising like it should be. I do not think McCarthy is as valuable as recent media coverage says he is. He certainly will not have the time in the backfield in the NFL he had in college but, we will all see in 2-3 years how they have done.

I love Klatt and this is one of the better big boards I've seen, but there are a few rankings that I strongly disagree with them being at least 12-15 spots off from where I have them: Too High- -JC Latham (I have him 40th, don't get the hype on him at all outside of the size) -Chop Robinson (36th, love the upside but no production and clearly a project) -Michael Penix (58th, good arm talent, don't love the processing, inability to throw from outside the pocket) -Tyler Guyton (44th, just not a ton of good tape and seems like a medium upside project) -Troy Franklin (67th, I'm simply wayy lower than consensus on his tape and I think his athleticism is slightly overestimated) -Zach Frazier (51st, good prospect but lower upside and he gets buried a bit by how much I love Barton and JPJ) -Xavier Worthy (49th, I'm scared he's too light and becomes just a faster Jalin Hyatt. Bad feel against zone coverage too) -Ja'tavion Sanders (69th, his testing numbers have pushed him down the board for me, but I do like the tape) -Tyler Nubin (77th, I just don't know if he's a good enough athlete at safety - 2.91 RAS) Too Low- -Ladd Mcconkey (26th, I swear if this kid was black he'd be a consensus top 15 prospect lol. Insane route running, fantastic RAS, great athlete) -Graham Barton (18th, I think as a center he's up there with Tyler Linderbaum and Creed Humphrey as the best in years) -Cooper Dejean (11th, His testing put him over the top for me. Him and Quinyon are 1a and 1b CBs) - Joe Alt (5th, not a huge difference from Joel, but having Fashanu over him is... strange to me) - Malik Nabers (4th, he's the best WR prospect I've seen not named MHJ since at least J'Marr) Not Ranked- -Xavier Leggette (38th, Was very surprised to see Pearsall over Leggette. Love both, but Leggette is phenomenal) -Jonah Ellis (41st, For the life of me I don't know why this kid hasn't gotten more buzz) -A couple others, but those were the main two that stood out to me.

He went freaking 8-5, He competed for nothing, he played South Car, AppSt, Minn Pitt, Syrr, Campbel, Duke. He did not win when it mattered most. I think if Klatt screams loud enough he will convince himself of this insane take. I've watched the tape and at the most critical moments he came up short. The people who keep crying that their not sold on Drake May, don't understand the QB position, and don't know arm talent when they see it. Drake May was North Carolina. They wouldn't have done half of what they did without him. The mistakes Drake made were from the fact that he didn't have a great team, or elite receivers around him, so he was trying to do everything because he's competitive and wants to win. Had he, with that arm, had Washingtons receivers, or the Texas receivers, or the LSU receivers, then we would probably be talking about a Heisman and an all time great season for a QB. He has elite arm strength and accuracy, can make every throw, and can anticipate throws, throw to spots, and throw receivers open.

Joel, I get Maye to Washington but do you trust Kingsberry and Quinn w/his development? Long term. Not just a flash in the pan like Kyler’s first couple seasons w/Kingsberry? I know the new regime in Washington. Just curious. Is maye one of the guys who can overcome franchise turmoil ?like a mahomes, Burrow, id argue Allen in Buffalo too. They had maybe 2 winning seasons in the last 10 yrs before his rookie yr

What franchise turmoil exactly Dan Snyder is gone. Cliff said he not running same offense he did with AZ. He said plans builds offense around players. Our new owner is committed to changing this team around and not being in the way. Willing to spend whatever to make sure players have what they need in terms training and health. Dan is a good coach and leader of men players want to play for. He brought in a great coach staff that develops players. Heck he is the reason Parsons is who he is as a player. He went from just a MLB to Von Miller basically, and Parsons said this himself. I’m 50/50 on Maye and Jayden I don’t care which at this point.

@@jessejuarez559 I mean definitely get that mindset of Washington ,for the last 20 years you be right heck last year you be right. New owner basically cleaned house old players that have been hear since 2017 were pretty shocked by the new atmosphere. Saying everyone is far more positive. The coaches are forcing everyone to get know each other, because there needs to be family environment, build that camaraderie with teammates. I’m loving what I’m hearing. Ron good guy but had to much responsibility and wasn’t good at getting coaches around him. His drafting was also bad you could predict who was going to pick and was always a reach.

Sorry for the double post but on Caleb Williams if you already have a negative take on him fine so be it. But if you either like him or are open minded on him as a prospect check out the in the pocket video on him on youtube. Particularly the Oklahoma portion. If that doesn’t just for one entertain the heck out of you let alone make you think he’s got serious potential then nothing will.

I love the list I respect you more then any other analyst out there but Joel I don’t understand all the love for jj McCarthy I really don’t I’m splitting hairs here but I don’t think he’s better then Bo or penix imo #14 for a guy we never really seen have to go win the game. He reminds me of the few Ohio state players that never had to either that got drafted high and never panned out. Still think he’s the number 6 but I’d easily drop him to 30 range imo love the show klatt much respect

Great stuff Klatt as a Broncos fan, Bo Nix is the guy I would like to see us draft. Not only a good fit, but dont have to give up the franchise to move up and get him with such risk involved (cough cough, McCarthy). One thing that makes me curious, is that we have brought in Jayden, JJ, Penix for private work out, and not Nix. Is there lack of interest, smoke,......or is the private work out not needed?

"cough, cough McCarthy"....sounds like you didn't watch him play. All the incisive insight of Mel Kiper with Tom Brady, "Does not have the total package of skills for an NFL quarterback." How'd that work out...?

@@buckhorncortez They are wrong on a lot of these guys, every year. Of course Brady endorses him, he's a wolverine. There are just way too many question marks (in my opinion), to give up the farm to move up for him. If the kid is there at 12, awesome. If not....no thanks. :) (and a lot of that has to do with the Broncos previous terrible mistakes that have placed us in this hole). I am not trying to attack JJ as a player, I just think there is more of a chance he ends up a Zack Wilson like talent, than a Tom Brady lol. (and if someone moves up giving up all their draft assets, that talent better be closer to Tom Brady)!
