Michael Penix Jr. Isn't Who We Thought He Was - QB Film Breakdown | Chase Daniel Show

Ойын-сауық

You CANT tell me Michael Penix Jr is NOT one of the Top 3 QB’s in this years class if you’ve actually broken down his film & watched him. If you say different, you don’t know ball.
He’s a magician out there. He put on a performance for the ages vs Texas in Sugar Bowl.

I got him QB3. 2 Blue 🔵 QBs imo Maye and Caleb. 1st Rd QBs I have Penix (Per Medicals) as QB3. Bo Nix as QB 4. I think Denver gets him and he has atleast a Cousins like career. 2nd Rd Grades I have Daniels 5 he's 200lbs playing weight and you gotta build that up over time imo. A lot like Justin Fields just, Not as Good. An Elite Scheming Coach can do anything tho. 🤷🏻🤷🏻 Especially w/great OL. Then JJ McCarthy would be 6th. He's got talent

I'm interested, Do you think Penix has to change his arm motion? As you know that will take time. I have him as my QB3. I actually have Bo Nix next and Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy with 2nd Rd Grades. McCarthy man 😅... Harbaugh is pimpin that dude. But they both getting paid. His accuracy is bad. He's a winner but, so was Tim Tebow.

I appreciate the breakdown. One of the things I get annoyed about with some of the Penix detractors in the draft media world is they like to make it seem like serious football people don’t consider Penix a dude and that only casual football fans see a high quality/starting caliber quarterback prospect. It’s a completely false picture they paint but they slough it off as if it’s just common sense. The truth of the matter is that there are plenty of serious football people that like Penix and do believe his game with translate. And now we can add Chase Daniel to that list of serious football people who like Penix, along with guys J.T. O’Sullivan, Chris Simms and former NFL general managers Rick Spielman and Randy Mueller. To the Penix haters, it’s one thing to dislike his game but don’t gaslight people and make it seem like only casuals do like him. Y’all literally spent the last 2 years telling us the guy is a statue and that he can’t move because of the injuries, a claim that Penix PROVED definitively has zero validity whatsoever. I mean the people that watched the tape and came to that conclusion completely and utterly whiffed on that aspect of the evaluation and in fact reality proved to be the precise opposite of what they claimed it was. People who test the way Penix tested are far from immobile. And though he doesn’t move a lot there are plenty of reps from the last 2 years that show the guy is far from the bad athlete he was made out to be in certain quarters.

see the people who see injuries and assume statue, thats an example of a heuristic, now everybody uses heuristics in everything but the accuracy and correlation of your heuristics is what determines how close you get to the truth in a couple decades, maybe even just 10 years, we’ll have AI scouts that far surpass any human in talent evaluation, at that point human talent evaluators will essentially become AI scout assistants and interpret their results, although in 10 years blackbox bots will also be able to interpret and explain their results and “thinking process” in human friendly form

Left handed QB creates different challenges. You need a right tackle that can defend the blind side rather than left tackle. The hand off to running back is different. Receivers have to adjust to the spin of the ball as it's rotating opposite of what they're used to up to that moment. It's also a little challenging to coach as most coaches are right handed and reversing everything is challenging... Everything is different when you have a left handed QB... But I think this guy makes it worthwhile

Passing in Husky stadium which is the worst passing stadium in the country. Can play in bad weather. Now he is fully grown and the NFL strength coaches will spend a year making sure he is developing. He is a generational talent with a chip on his shoulder and I hope he goes to a franchise that will build a team around that talent. It may take a season to get your personal right so let him train and get a few games in before you turn him loose on the league.

I watched a draft guy yesterday and he said a nfl scout told him this before the michigan game and Michigan took away the deep ball, which he does throw well and he was poor in that game. The nfl game doesnt give you 5 seconds to throw deep balls all the time, you have to hit underneath routes and the intermiate routes because the NFL is 2 or 3 seconds, and it has to be gone......

He at times can play inconsistent ...he missed some wide open receivers against Michigan, some of them that would have changed momentum during that game. Texas' Murphy and Sweat were in his face the whole game and he releases the ball with pressure in his face....he played perfect against Texas' great defensive line and was incredibly pinpoint accurate. Michigan's defensive pressure was no better than Texas, there were many plays Penix normally makes that he just didn't make against Michigan. Texas' Murphy and Sweat were in his face the whole game and they have the best interior line in the country. Pennix still tore them up by releasing the ball quickly with anticipation and touch on his passes. Penix had by far the lowest sack rate in the country...he is a master of the pocket. Pennix was off against Michigan and missed some wide open receivers including one to Odunze who was wide open and would have went for a TD, which would have effected the momentum during that game against Michigan. Also, Pennix hit Odunze on a deep pass as he was hit when the score was 20-13 late in the game but was called back because of a holding penalty. If Pennix played against Michigan liked he did against Texas, that game would have been much closer at the end. Plus Pennix was playing hurt in the second half.
