    I sell fine wine, and yes, there is a lot of BS, but perhaps that is what it seems like from the outside.. Once you are selling high end wine like what Maynard and Joe are referring to you, see that you do not have to know jack about wine to sell... its just sales.. Maybe you are referring to wine buffs like Rudy who Joe and Maynard are talking about. he is an obvious example of a complete dooooshbag. Perhaps this is the tasting that you are referring to; the Paris tasting of 1976 AKA the Judgment of Paris: This was the event that solidified USA on the world stage of wine production.. not BS.

    @@satanwasframed5083 It may be the case that average people can be easily duped by price, but wine professionals exist and can indeed tell the difference. The Master Sommelier exam requires candidates to blind taste several wines and name the region, sun-region, grape varieties, and year. That literally cannot be faked, and sommeliers train to be able to do that. Whether it is “worth it” for an average person to buy expensive wine when they won’t be able to tell the difference is up to that person to decide.

  • @satanwasframed5083

    @@jacob9540 wine professionals? Who decides that? The guy figured out the wine was fake from the label and not the taste supposedly. I can see identifying flavors or ingredients but location and sun is a load of horse crap. I'd like to see real science behind it. Because in a self contained organization you can fake it. Also, unless you were one of these supposed professionals, why would the wine be worth so much to you if it wasn't a status symbol?

  • @jacob9540

    @jacob9540

    Жыл бұрын

    @@satanwasframed5083 A wine professional is someone who works full time in the wine industry, whether they are merchants or sommeliers. The Master Sommelier program is one of the most difficult exams in the world, there are only around 300 people on Earth that have passed the exam. And yes, at that level, the sommeliers can determine regions, subregions, and general years based on blind tasting alone. The price of wine is determined by supply and demand, just like anything else. When wineries focus on making the highest quality possible wine, it means that they must only choose the best grapes of the bunch and discard the rest, it also means that they usually age the wines for longer before releasing to the market. High quality wines naturally are produced in smaller quantities and are in high demand by people seeking out high quality. So obviously the price will be very high for those bottles. Is it worth it to pay $100+? That’s up to each person to decide. The bottles that sell for ridiculous prices like $100k plus are that expensive because of some historical significance and extraordinary rarity, not quality. The difference in quality between a $10 bottle and a $50 bottle is very noticeable to most people. The difference in quality between $50 and $500 is not as noticeable.

    BoviceSON is right, Robert was very very angry at his sons for selling his wines that didn't make the cut with his name on it. Imagen making wooden ships in a bottle by hand and becoming renound around the world for it, then your kids sell cheaper ones made from a 3D printer with your brand name on it. Robert would have rather sold those grapes that didn't make the cut to another outfit than make under-par wine with his name on it. Woodbridge is the poor mans version of the Mandovi line. Far different than sour grapes shit fuckery. As a former wine maker I can totally get why Robert was so pissed but I am personally glad his kids did it. I love the Woodbridge pinot noir because they put it through a 2ndary lactic fermentation giving it a wonderful body that you wont find in most low cost pinot noirs under 20$ US. Unless you have good experience with wine or want to look like a big shot, you don't buy bottles of wine costing over 20$ .

    Two guys' comments on a movie they haven't seen. You didn't need to open the wine to see it was fake. Most of the labels of wine on the auction catalogue had obvious mistakes according to the French winemaker. The truth is people were fooled because they are rich and they don't care to know if it's genuine. They were easy marks.

  • @jacob9540

    And which expensive bullshit wines have you tried? Two things can be good at the same time. There are plenty of delicious $10-15 bottles, and plenty of outstanding $70-100 bottles. There are wines in both categories that are not good value for the money, cheap wines that are truly disgusting and expensive wines that are boring or bland. Whether it is worth it to spend the extra money is up to each person. Personally I find the highest quality for the money to be in Spanish Rioja’s, you can find truly outstanding bottles in the $20-40 range that drink like $500 French wines.

    The wine game is no different than the car game,if you can afford to play it's always a risk,this character was amazing in what he could do,he could taste,break down the characteristics of the into his memory,go to the bathroom and write it down,then start with a base wine then start blending until his memory of taste told him he had it,at best he only had a couple of mouthfuls,I have tasted a thousands of wines,I couldn't break down any of them.Good story though.People buy exotics at car auctions,then find out a week later they've lost a 100k in a week,they can let it roll off and look for another one,Joe knows how much it cost to build one,and if your lucky you might get your money back.

    Like this artist that duped a lot of people by painting fake Rembrandt (or some other famous painter can't remember) he was an extremely good painter but also very good at using the colors, and canvas, and paint to mimic that period and he sold his "Rembrandts" for millions. They eventually found out, because he used a white that was made from a recently developed chemical that Rembrandt wouldn't have had access to back when, and was sent to jail. When asked: "do you think you did anything wrong?" he replied: "Yes. I used the wrong white." Love it.

    We have a club here where we take a $5.00 dollar bottle of wine and play it off to so called experts like Maynard James Keenan, and they ALWAYS fall for it, as they are nothing more than over privileged snobs...We place a $200.00 plus empty bottle on the table and have the $5.00 dollar bottle of wine in a carafe to "Let It Breathe" we have plain crackers/ olives/ cheese so they can rinse their palate (Mouth you know because they can tell), and cloths, and spit buckets for the "Experts" to give their opinions, and from Boston, to New York, to Washington DC to Manassas VA to south Fla, Atlanta, Los Angeles, to Dallas they all same the same things...meaning they are all just snobs...Btw we do the same with Grey Goose, and top end empty bottles of booze. We most likely clear 6, 000.00 a night not including service tips, and it is hilarious...
