Was in NSW from 07-14. A two star admiral in the Seal teams working at WARCOM came to my command around 12/13 and gave an entire speech regarding integrity and widespread steroid use at the team's and how the utilization of the needle doesn't make you a better operator. Steroid use is extremely rampant in NSW and to say anything other than that is extremely foolhardy. It was to the point where leaders would give their subordinates a heads up on the "random" piss test that would occur in one month. Furthermore, there are no piss tests on deployment.

I realize the pulling someone out of combat was kind of a joke - but there is a real concern with being 'Natty' when it comes down to knowing what the "real" capabilities of your teammates are... you just might be temporarily or for an extended period, cut off from your supply. Then, depending on what you are doing - you can end up being a helluva lot more worthless than your 'natty' counterparts until you level out. I really don't care who does what. When it comes down to mission-ready though... I really think it is fine to be hyper selective with testing during training. You've just gotta know, for the very reason mentioned... what are you going to do if you can't rely on your teammate? Anyway, I really enjoyed the back and forth on these - great sports on both sides. Have a good one!

A shot of nebdo lasts for 8-12 weeks, just a thought. There are plenty of compounds one can run where you won't notice any loss of effects for a month or longer. You might not see any more improvement, but you won't see any loss. VigirousSteve has some good videos about this. I'm not saying you don't bring up good points because you bring up great points, but I'm sure this is a solution many military members on gear use.

But Jacko really just looks like a 50 yo dude that has stayed in good shape for a long time. He reminds me of my father in law at 50. The dude has always been into lifting ever since his early to mid 20s and didn't stop until he turned 60. I spotted him for a 300lb bench press on his 60th birthday and then after that he was done with lifting for good lol. My brother was in the special operations realm in the Marines and when I asked him about this he said it was generally a squad dependent thing and was all kept between them. They do in fact get dishonorable discharge if they get caught but it has to be someone that actually rats them out with evidence and the higher ups put it all in a balance scale perse to determine if it's even worth the hassle or scandal. I personally have a very good friend that's a Ranger and the only time he was on gear was on actual deployment. In essence it's a known thing that since nothing bad has happened because of it, higher ups turn a blind eye to avoid a potentially huge scandal. There are a LOT of warriors on gear and I personally am glad they are because they need their performance enhanced more than ANYONE in my humble civilian opinion.

Here’s the thing, in 13 years infantry time with 5 years in combat, I’ve never seen more than 10 people at one time using any form or performance enhancers out of 120+ dudes in a company. A friend of mine I lifted with was well schooled in them. I knew each person that was using and they all cycled on and off in a healthy way. No issues ever. He ensured it was never a issue and never worked with people that wouldn’t use correctly. Big point, no where near “a lot” of people used steroids OR TRT. Some of the biggest beasts in my unit were natural. They ate right, lifted right and had great genes. Bottom line, people can use in the military and get away with it, but the population doing so is incredibly small. 5ish percent. Side note. At one point in my military career I was the guy that handled drug tests for my unit. Commanders had to specially order tests for steroids. The few people I’ve ever seen booted for steroids were found with the steroids and not tested positive for.

I’ve been inside testing facilities, done UPL training and tested SOF units as an outside unit tester or backing up their UPL. A vast majority, over 70% have never used or would use steroids JUST on the career basis argument. All SOF across the board have more money to easily test for steroids where regularly line units have a budget even for testing or a requirement to justify testing. Their are teams (10-12 guys on a sf team or 30ish for a ranger plt) that have a rampant issue for a short time. Those guys get hemmed up quick. People talk about, info spreads, officers and upper enlisted get involved etc, but we are still taking less than 10-15 percent of all SOF/direct combat units that have used steroids. Bottomline, dude is talking out his ass. I’m late to the party and like MPMD content overall, but don’t use third party info or unspecified data for an analysis on someone’s steroid use, especially a motivational figure like Jocko. Jocko is right on with hey maybe I wasn’t specific enough, but I don’t and won’t use for more performance. Beyond all that MPMD is using this for content, not factually accurate.

I remember we got drug tested (pot, opioids, cocaine) and when anyone popped hot we were told. I do not remember ever being told someone popped for PED's or anyone getting Article 13'd or court-martialed/kicked-out for steroids. I can sympathize with Jocko because I was a stocky guy who ate a lot and lifted and walked around at 220-230 (natural). Some of the juicers asked me if I juiced or where I "got mine" after they saw me squat or deadlift. I'm 50, can definitely still squat 405 x 10 and no TRT or steroids required. Context of "setting up the podcast" content: On Jocko podcast he does a lot of book reviews and takes on guests with quite the history, with meticulous note taking with everything. It's going through multiple fiction and non fiction books with detailed notes, being able to discuss those topics extensively. So that's what Echo was saying about getting the numbers right if they were discussing lifting records on the podcast. If it's "actual" podcast content, it's more structured because usually they discuss serious topics, and you can actually see Jocko going through page after page of notes of talking points through multi-hour podcast episodes. To add, IIRC on Joe Rogan, Rogan said that Jocko was one of the first guests he had on with a bunch of notes and pens prepared. So, that content was most likely not "official" podcast content.

It needs commander approval I’d imagine for what jocko did in the military they’d have even less of an incentive to test for gear. Not saying he is or isn’t on gear but that certainly isn’t proof to say he isn’t

I know a guy who is a very decorated ranger. He was sauced to the gills and was very open about it once he got out. He spent alot of time in Iraq. It's like you said, why wouldn't they want that advantage? Potentially dying because you wanted to be natty 4 life seems dumb and a stretch

Does roid use have any side-effects? I heard about emotional imbalances, that's bad. Also does the withdrawal from the roid usage screw with you? If you're in a theatre of war I doubt you're gonna get your smack packaged with military supplies.

Seals are different then navy/army/rangers. Longer missions with less access to supplies and not as easy to bring your gear and not always being stationed in a camp. Most PED's have Negative effects when you come off them and there can be lots of advantages to not doing them and top genetic freak pushing their natty limits would be better then being massive in real war or on a seal mission. A new study showed metabolism does not decrease in until 50+ and weight lifting/power lifting records only decrease about 1% a year after peaking between 26-35. I believe Jocko when he says he's natty, either he was saucing since before 18 or never, judging by being 200+ brick shithouse as a teen and on top of being disciplined and getting up every day surfing and getting after it. From my perspective he both didn't need them and also had very little incentive to start as he wasn't trying to break records, lift PR's or compete and his biggest love was surfing. But also if he did them since forever which is possible it's still in his best interest as a role model to not encourage youths so nothing is certain just my opinion. Natty.

The 1 rep max calculator puts Jocko's 1RPM at about 475 lbs, and that'd set him at around 405 for 6 reps. While I find the calculator is slightly off, it's pretty good with guesses if it's within the 10 rep range.

    405 for 6 and 475 1RM doesn’t sound right. That’s a big spread

He could probably get 10 reps of 405 with clusters or paused reps. Don't think that they'll be good, quality reps, though

i can only do 405 for 8/9 and i have squated 565 for 1. one rep max calculations are off some people are gentically pre disposed to better at endurance vs one rep maxes

9:30 that 16 minute video on Jockos channel is behind the scene stuff. They tell that is behind the scene stuff in their podcast, but it is normally after like 2 hours of the podcast. So they do tell that it is not the podcast, but if you are a new watcher/listener it is hard to tell if its part of the podcast
